Beaver Creek Resorts
Comments and Notes
The Beaver Creek Resort is located in the Three Sisters
Wilderness in Oregon. Three 18 hole championship courses
comprise the resort's golfing complex. Hunting, hiking, horse
back riding, whitewater activities and fishing take up most
of the visitors other leisure time. Winter time activities
are growing each year.
The Mt. Bachelor Winter Sports Area is not far to the east.
Beaver Creek - Silk 18, Big Satin 18 and Lace 18. are the
three championship courses. Three lakes, namely Silk, Satin,
and Lace have been developed through the damming of Three
Creeks which is not far from the entrance of the resort. The
Chasing Rainbows Development Corp is responsible for the
operations at the Resort. A fourth course The Denim 18 is in
the planning stages. The Little Satin 18 is now located
outside the environs of the resort area.
Beaver Creek meanders through the Three Sisters Wilderness
in west central Oregon. The Wilderness area is situated
between Bend and Eugene off Hwy 242. Portland is only 162
miles by road.
The Beaver Creek Resort is nestled in the valley between
North Sister, elevation 10,085 ft and South Sister, at
10,358 ft. Mid Sister is to the east. The Pacific Crest
National Scenic Trail cuts through at the eastern edge of
the Resort.
To reach the Beaver Creek Resort fly to either Eugene or
Redmond. Eugene is served by several major air carriers such
as Alaska, American, United, and USAir. Bend is served by
Horizon Air. Then rent a car and take Hwy 242 east from
Eugene or west from Redmond's Roberts Field. From Redmond
you can take the west entrance off Hwy 20. Accommodations in
the Wilderness Area, away from the resort complex are
sparse.
You can also try the accommodations in Sisters or
McKenzie Bridge, on Hwy 242 or Bend to the east of the area.
During the summer months the Mt. Bachelor area also has
accommodations. The Sunriver Resort is also a short distance
down the road.In Sisters, Oregon, at the crossroads of Hwys
126 and 20 stay at the Hotel Sisters, and enjoy some of the
'old west' atmosphere.

Course Name: Beaver Creek Resort - Big Satin 18
Location: Near the Three Sisters Wilderness in Oregon
Length\Par: 7349 yards\ par 74 - championship tees
Wind: Strong, west wind
Design: JNSE design by Jim Morrow. Original design
done in May, 1992 as JNUG course, adapted as
in July and August, 1992 as a JNSE design.
Source: 'The 1992 Viewers Guide to Professional Golf'
published by Intergolf.
Objects and Backgrounds: I believe the background comes from
Gene Rodriguez III; objects can be attributed to Scott
Chesney, Lee Ritze, Mark Willett, Gene Rodriguez, Keith
Holzapfel among others. If I missed someone, I sincerely
apologize.
Special thanks to: Bill Claybourn, Rod Harris and Lonn Iris
who play tested the course, gave me good advice - some of
which I may have been too stubborn to accept and encouraged
me to upload this course to one of the BBS. Also, to Paul
Conrad who previously told me how to fix my water... yes
some of my streams did flow uphill!
All of four courses at Beaver Creek have its origins from
other famous courses in the USA and Canada. The 'best' or
the most exciting holes were not selected, but mainly hole
layouts that fit into the lake and mountainous surroundings.
All hole layouts have a close resemblance to the specific
hole selected; however, the elevation and length of the
green will vary. So will the shape of the green and the
fairways and the trees. In other words, I only used the hole
layout, perhaps some traps and water... nothing else!
Then I added objects, mostly trees to strategic areas. In
most cases, the trees have no semblance to the original
hole. Championship, pro, men and ladies tees were set up.
I then added a fifth tee box at the advice of Rod Harris.
Since the layouts were originally set up for JNUG its
length to compensate for the distance off the tee, the
yardage at 7349 yards was probably too long for JNSE. The
original pro tee distance was 7184 for JNUG.
As a compromise, I added the fifth tee box. Some of the
par threes may not have five. The default is to the longer
yardage; if you want to change to the shorter course...
just play from the pro tees or change the tees to best suit
your pleasures... with your Designer it may take ten
minutes!
For the Big Satin 18, the designers at Chasing Rainbows used
the following hole layouts to develop the championship 18:
1 - Riviera - # 18 10 - PGA National - 18
2 - TPC Prestancia - 8 11 - TPC Prestancia - 4
3 - Doral CC - 12 12 - TPC Woodlands - 13
4 - Innisbrook - 4 13 - Riviera - 10
5 - Bay Hill - 16 14 - TPC Michigan - 11
6 - Mission Hills - 6 15 - Weston Hills - 17
7 - Kingsmill - 16 16 - Pebble Beach - 8
8 - Glenn Abbey - 3 17 - Innisbrook - 16
9 - PGA National - 16 18 - Kapula - 17
The Beaver Creek- Big Satin 18 yardage card:
Hole 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 OUT
Par 4 4 5 3 5 4 4 3 5 37
Pro 448 402 586 205 506 416 456 202 530 3751
Hole 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 IN Total
Par 4 3 5 4 4 3 4 5 5 37 74
Pro 410 205 520 352 456 237 450 480 488 3598 7349
Note: # 18 was originally a 4, but I changed it to a
par 5; then changed it to a 4; then back to a Par 5. A
little indecision perhaps! You may want to change it back to
a Par 4 - depending on which tees you play.
Also, for hole # 15, the championship tees is not the
farthest tee box. The hole originally played over 266+ yards
from the championship tees; its now at approximately 237
depending on the pin placement for your round. If you want
an even greater challenge you could move the tees back! I
believe the last tee box is about 256 yards.
If you are looking for 'caddy notes' I'm sorry but I'm
going to disappoint you. I think everyone plays just a bit
different than the next guy, so my notes probably won't help
you much. Thus my only suggestion would be to jot down your
own as you play it the first time, perhaps it will quench
your thirst to come back for more.
Two other courses are nearly complete. The Beaver Creek -
Lace 18 is in the final stages now, although its release
could be delayed until mid September. Another Bahamas course
is almost complete, too. The Beaver Creek - Silk 18 is in
the course layout stage.
I hope you enjoy playing Beaver Creek - Big Satin 18.
