  16.          PURPOSE:  Optimizing and Normalizing databases are finally
  17.          getting the attention they deserve.  As in all computer
  18.          products, speed is the buzzword.  If your database has been
  19.          structured loosely, it will cost you time, not to mention
  20.          additional disk storage space.  DFACTS examines your database
  21.          to determine where fields are using wasted space.  It also
  22.          evaluates your data to determine where codes might be a
  23.          better option than full text when the same values are used
  24.          over and over.  DFACTS also answers many of the questions that
  25.          come up from time to time like: 1) How many blank fields do
  26.          I have?  2) What are the highest and lowest number and date
  27.          ranges in my database?  3) I wish I could just browse my database
  28.          and read MEMOS on the fly.  4) How many unique values do I
  29.          have in a certain field?  DFACTS has been developed to run on
  30.          any computer.  Obviously, the speed of a computer is a factor
  31.          in the amount of time it takes to perform an analysis.  Each
  32.          analysis provides a gauge to alert you as to the percentage
  33.          completion.  DFACTS requires additional space for temporary
  34.          work files.  Make sure that either the floppy disk or hard disk
  35.          you use has enough room for these files.  Normally the temporary
  36.          files require about 10% of the size of your largest file that
  37.          will be analyzed (if your DBF is 1.5M in size, the temp files
  38.          will be about 150K).  The temp files are removed at the
  39.          completion of the program.  You can analyze any database on
  40.          any drive that is accessible to your computer.

  42.            This beta test version of DFACTS is released as shareware
  43.          and is equivalent in features to the registered version !
  44.          You are hereby granted a license to use DFACTS for evaluation
  45.          purposes for the period of 60 days.  If you wish to continue
  46.          using DFACTS after that time, you must register your copy with
  47.          MDH Associates, Inc. The registration fee for a single-use
  48.          license is $15.00.

  62.            This version of DFACTS is compatible with any dBASE/Clipper
  63.          database format.

  65.            To install DFACTS on a hard disk, first create a directory for
  66.          the DFACTS files (we recommend the creating a directory named
  67.          DFACTS"). UNZIP the shareware .ZIP file into this directory.
  68.          You will need approximately 200K of free disk space to install
  69.          this version of DFACTS.  You can copy the files to a floppy, if
  70.          you wish, but remember that additional space is required for
  71.          the temp files.

  73.            To run the shareware version of DFACTS, type "DFACTS" at the
  74.          DOS prompt. The shareware version will momentarily display a
  75.          shareware screen to remind you that you have still not registered
  76.          the product.  DFACTS will then respond with a screen asking
  77.          whether you can view output in color or mono.  Instructions after
  78.          that point are given on the screen and should be straight forward.
