/ About "The Terminator" /
//////////////////////////
For almost two years (six man-years of work), a team of bethesda
Softworks programmers, writers and artists have labored to
create a computer simulation based upon the 1984 science
fiction adventure classic, "The Terminator", that Catapulted
Arnold Schwarzenegger into the ranks of international stardom.
The result is a game quite unlike anything you've experienced
before.
"The Terminator" game is a true simulation that offers a radically
different approach to the home computer game market. lt doesn't
just pickup where the movie left off, nor does it mimic the movie.
"The Terminator" computer game gives you the opportunity to
rewrite the movie every time you play. The concept of interactive
3D entertainment has been redefined in a computer simulation
where there are no preordained paths, only a virtual world in
which your decisions and actions will determine the ultimate
outcome of your experience. In effect, central Los Angeles has
been placed inside your computer and, as either Kyle Reese or
The Terminator, you are on your own and leer to your own
devices. Your skill, cunning and ability alone will decide the
unfolding and ultimate outcome of the story.
Once you have chosen to become either the virtually indestructible
Terminator cyborg, or the battle-hardened urban commando
from the future, Kyle Reese, you must then decide how best to
achieve your objective. Whether you choose stealth or battle,
fear or bravado, your actions will serve to continually redefine
the outcome of the story. With every action, everydecision, every
reflex, you decide your destiny. No two games will ever unfold
exactly alike as in every game different obstacles and challenges
will present themselves. In "The Terminator" not only do you
participate in your own interactive adventure - you live it!
Good luck. The rest is up to you.

1991 "Star Wars" military program begins to place SkyNet defense communications
satellites in orbit.
1992 Defense Department, faced with growing threat of bacteriologic/chemical
weapons use in the Middle East, awards contract to build a prototype
"Cybernetic Peace Keeping Force" to Cyberdyne.
1995 First mass-market electro-optical computer chips become available.
U.S. Department of Defense upgrades NORAD combat simulation computer
systems.
1997 The heads of 3 Silicon Vclley manufacturing concerns are arrested
for selling electro/optical chip technology to the Soviets. Publicly the
USSR denies charges, privately they retool their own computer systems.
1998 Cybernetic unveils first prototypes of Cybernetic Defence Operations.
Department of Defense continues second phase funding.
1999 Shared orbital acquisition experiment of two outdated American and Soviet

2000 U.S. and Russian leaders come to an historic agreement in what becomes
known as the New Millenium Treaty. Both countries agree to destroy their
entire nuclear arsenals within ten years.
2006 "SkyNet," an artificial machine intelligence formed from the core of
American and Soviet defense computers, takes control of the US/USSR
nuclear weaponry via satellite and launches preemptive self-protective
strike that destroys 90% of civilization.
2010 The first "Terminator"units appear and begin to hunt remaining humanity
to near extinction. 2019 John Connor's "New World Army" destroys several
key SkyNet installations. The tide begins to turn.
Los Angeles 2029 A.D.
The machines rose from the
ashes of the nuclear fire.
Their war to exterminate
mankind had raged for
decades, but the final
battle would not be fought
in the future.
It would be fought
in our present.

/ Installation and Startup /
////////////////////////////
Hard Drive Installation (Required)
To install the game to your hard drive, insert disk 1 into your
floppy drive and type:lnstall<path>. Follow the on-screen
directions to complete installation.
Example: To install to C:\Term, type: install C:\Term at the A:\> prompt
Starting the Game
After you've installed the game to your hard drive, running it is
easy! First type:c: (or the appropriate letter for your hard drive).
Then type cd\term (or what ever you named it) to get into
the Terminator directory. Finally, type: term [sound option]
using one of the sound options specified below. The game will
load and begin the introduction.
Sound Options
Sound options tell The Terminator program what sound board,
if any, you are using. Check to see which sound system you have,
and when starting the game type: term followed by only one of
the following commonds:
NONE if you do not want any sound at all
IBMSOUND to use only the standard internal speaker
ADLIB for AdLib sound board users
SBLASTER for Sound Blaster TM sound board users
Example: If you are using a Sound Blaster audio board, start the
game by typing: term sblaster
Serial Link Options
If you link two computers together using a serial cable, then The
Terminator can become a two player game. To do this load the
game into both machines' hard drives as described in the section
above. Then link the machines serial ports using a NULL modem
cable. Then both players simply start the game and include the
commands LINK and COMN to their startup instructions. The
LINK command instructs the computer to create the link between
the two computers, while the COMN command specifies which
serial port to use. The small n in this command would be replaced
with a number, depending on which serial port you are using.
Valid ports are COM1, COM2, COM3, and COM4.
Example: Two players linked, each using COM2 and a SoundBlaster
card would start the game by typing:
TERM LINK COM2 SBLASTER
As another example, two players linked using COM3 with no sound
would start the game by typing:
TERM LINK COM3 NONE

Viewing the Introduction
When the game begins, several screens of credits and introductory
sequences will run automatically. If you want to watch the
opening credits, do nothing. They'll cycle through their sequence
in a few moments and bring you to the Main Menu.
Bypassing the Introduction
After playing the game a few times, you might want to skip the
opening sequences. To do so, press any key. Each time you press
a key you will bypass one of the animations. Press a key several
times to bypass the entire sequence and go immediately to the
Main Menu.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
/////////////
/ Main Menu /

T Terminator
Press T to play The Terminator, an unstoppable cyborg juggernaut
programmed to destroy mankind's last hope for survival.
R Reese
Press R to play Kyle Reese, high-tech urban commando from the
future, playing out a desperate gambit to save humanity.
Game Length
F Full Game
Hit the F key to enable the full game. In the fullgame, both Reese
and The Terminator arrive in modern day Los Angeles with no
equipment except clothing. Each must find weapons, supplies,
transportation and more as they race the clock and each other
with the fate of the world hanging in the balance.

J Joystick
Pressing J selects the joystick control for movement and weapons
firing. A series of prompts will instruct you to shift the joystick into
several different positions and press the fire button. This calibrates
your joystick for maximum response and accuracy.
Game Type
A Real Mode
Whether you're playing Reese or The Terminator, selecting the
A key puts you in the real game, where your opponent is in Los
Angeles with you. Somewhere in the maze of buildings and
streets, he's making his next move. You've got to be quicker,
stronger and smarter if you hope to find Sarah Connor and win
the game.
P Practice Made
Hitting the P key puts you in the practice mode where you can
fine tune your game skills. There is no counterport to the character
option you've chosen, no way to win or lose. But you con learn
the lay of the land, become a crack shot, master high-speed
driving maneuvers and more.
Graphics Detail
You have three options for the level of detail in the 3D graphics.
Base your choice on the speed ofyour computer. The Terminator
can be run at a higher level of detail than we recommend for your
machine, but doing so will slow down game play considerably.
These can be changed during game play by hitting ALT 1
through 3 (See: General Keyboard Commands).
X Maximum Detail
Hit the X key if you are using an AT (286) or better to select
maximum detail.
M Medium Detail
On a fast (turbo) XT, hit the M key to choose the medium level of
detail.
N Minimum Detail
For normal XTs and others, hit the N key to choose the minimum
level of detail.
Game Difficulty
E Easy
D Medium
H Hard
Game difficulty is a measure of how tough, how fast, and how
well-equipped the opposition is. Many game parameters will be
affected by your choice of Difficulty Level. For example: in the
hardest level, the police and military forces will be heavily armed
and quick to respond, while in the eastest they won't be as
organized and well-equipped.
Game Select
L Load Same
Hitting the L key lets you load in a game you've previously saved
and start up again where you left off.
G Play Game
Hitting the G key will start the game.
Other Options
Q Quit
There are those terrible moments that no game player can avoid
forever: whether it's a baby crying, dinner on the table, or worse
yet, work, sometimes reality intrudes! When you have to, hit the
Q key to quit the game.
I Ratings Screen
To see the high scores that you'll have to beat, press I to go from
the Main Menu to the Ratings Screen. This Ratings Screen will be
covered in detail later. Hitting the Esc key will return you to the
Main Menu. The Ratings Screen will display the ratings of the
character currently selected in the Main Menu.
V Game Version
Hitting the V key displays an information box containing the
game's version number. Press the enter or ESC key to return to
the Main Menu.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
/////////////////////////////
/ General Keyboard Commands /
/////////////////////////////
These are the commands that are available from the keyboard
during normal game play. They include the Walking Mode and
Driving Mode commends. You do not need to access a menu to
use these commands.
Esc Game Menu (pause)
Pressing the Esc key pauses the game and brings up the Game
Menu, which allows you to quit, save your game, start a new
game, and more. The Game Menu is discussed in detail in the
Menus section.
F10 Player Menu (pause)
You can access the Player Menu at any time during the game by
hitting F10. The game will pause and the player menu will
appear. This menu enables you to perform special actions, check
your inventory and more. The Player Menu is discussed in detail
in the Menus section.
P Phone Book
In a city the size of Los Angeles, you con get almost anything
you'd ever want or need. The only problem is where to find it.
You could wander the streets till you find what you're looking for,
but a safer, faster way is to look it up in the phone book. Hit the
P key to bring it up on screen, then use the up arrow and down
arrow keys to page through the book. It shows only the stores in
the immediate area and will update as you move around.
F9 Information View
The F9 key shows Information View where you see the game
through the character's eyes, with the addition of readout panels
displaying a wide variety of useful information. The Information
View display is described in detail later on.
Shift - F9 Full Screen View
By hitting the Shift - F9 keys you can remove the information
readout from your view screen. The view through the character's
eyes will fill the entire screen.
Alt M Full Area Map/Fast Travel/Homing Device
M Local Area Map/Fast Travel/Homing Device
When you need to get your bearings, want directions to another
part of the city, or need to get to your destination in a hurry, call
up a map of the playing area. Hitting the M key will display the
immediate neighborhood, while hitting the Alt-M keys will
display a map of the entire game area. If you know exactly where
you want to go and don't want to waste time getting there, place
your cursor on your desired destination and hit the F key. This
activates the fast travel feature and you will automatically travel
to the spot you specified. However, be careful: While this seems
instantaneous, it's not a teleporter. It takes just as much "game
time" to Fast Travel as it would to walk to your destination
yourself; it's just quicker in "real time." Remember your opponent
is out there, somewhere, using that time to his advantage. If
you're in combat or imminent danger you can not fast travel, and
if you encounter trouble during fast travel, your trip will be
interrupted so you can deal with the crisis. Another map feature
is a homing device. To activate it, place the cursor on the spot on
the map to where you'd like to go and press H. The normal screen
will return, but in the center readout of the information view you
will see instructions which will keep you guided in the right
direction. To turn off these instructions, press the Ctrl-M keys. To
exit the map screen without taking any action, hit Esc.
F1 through F8 Select Weapon/Reload Weapon
Function keys F1 through F8 are weapons selectors. As you buy
or steal weapons their icons will appear in the bottom of the
screen. Each weapon has a preassigned F key slot that is
indicated on the icon. If you have nothing in your hands and you
press a function key, you are drawing the weapon and getting
ready to use it. Unless you're severely injured, you can hold two
weapons at the ready - one in each hand. A display along the
lower portion of your screen shows which weapons you are
holding and which is your primary weapon (the weapon you are
ready to fire). Hitting an F key for a weapon that is already in use
automatically reloods that weapon. However, this will only work
if the weapon is out of ammo. To reload a weapon that still has
a few rounds left in the magazine, you must do a Force Reload.
Alt - F1 through Alt - F8 Force Reload
A force reload allows you to reload a weapon that still has a few
rounds left in it. To force reload a weapon, hold down the Alt
key and press the function key to which that weapon is
assigned. Be warned: if you force reload you'll lose whatever
ammo was left in the weapon. You may want to squeeze off those
last few rounds then reload normally.
Ctrl-F1 through Ctrl-F8 Deselect Weapon
Hitting the Ctrl key and any of the function keys F1 through F8
will put a weapon away, which can be a good idea, because no
motter how dangerous Los Angeles is, the police still frown on
average citizens walking around carrying Stinger missiles.
Enter Fire Weapon
Tab Fire Weapon
When using the keyboard controls, press the enter or Tab key
to fire your primary weapon. The shot will hit whatever is in your
target crosshairs. If you've opted to use a joystick, you have a
choice between the enter or tab key and the joystick's fire button.
To fire your secondary weapon, press its function (F1 through
F8) key, then press enter or Tab to fire.
Space Bar + Arrow keys Aim Weapon Sights
In the heat of battle, turning your entire body to aim your weapon
does not provide a great enough degree of accuracy to lock on
your target as he is moving around. To keep your body still and
only aim your weapon's crosshairs, hold the Space Bar and press
the Arrow Keys in the direction you want to aim. This precision
sighting can provide you with the edge you'll need.
(Backslash) Crosshair Centering
To snap your weapon's crosshairs back to the center of your field
of vision, hit the \ key (the backslash key).
(Minus Key) Systems Status Strobe
On/Off (Terminator Only)
Hitting the-key (the minus symbol key) toggles The Terminator's
"System Status Strobe" noise on ond off.
(Equals Symbol Key) Heads Up Display
On/Off (Terminator Only)
The = key (the equals symbol key) toggles The Terminator's
optional heads up display on and off.
Shift = (Equals Symbol Key) Large Crosshairs
On/Off (Terminator Only)
The Terminator is equipped with indexed crosshairs used primarily
for internal optical/motor systems alignment. To toggle it on or
off, press the Shift = key (Equals Symbol Key). The normal
weapon crosshairs will remain.
Z Zoom Lens On/Off (Terminator Only)
Standard equipment on all Cyberdyne Terminator cyborg units
includes vision enhancement capability. Press the Z key to
activate/deactivate the 2X internal zoom lens.
X Target Lock Toggle
The X key works the target lock for the Stinger missiles. By
repeatedly hitting the X key, a target lock box will toggle between
whatever targets are on screen at the time. Once you've selected
the target you move the cursor into the target lock box. The box
will turn red when you've got a valid target lock, then fire like you
would any other weapon. The stinger can be fired without using
the target lock feature, but good luck in actually hitting what
you're aiming at. Note: don't use the spacebar/arrow keys
combination to move the cursor when trying to aim the Stinger.
ALT 1 through 3 Graphics Detail Level
To change the level of detail during game play hit ALT 2 through
3 - one being the highest level of detail, three being the lowest.
Vision Commands
Ctrl + Up Arrow Look Forward
Ctrl + Down Arrow Look Behind
Ctrl + Right Arrow Look to the Right
Ctrl + Left Arrow Look to the Left
You don't have to be looking the some direction you are walking
or driving. Turning your viewing angle is a handy shortcut which
allows you to look (and fire weapons) to the side and behind you
while still heading away from your opposition. It is considerably
faster than turning your entire body or vehicle. Note: When
looking to the right or left, your viewing angle moves in 45
degree increments.

press the N key and fo low the on-screen instructions.
F10 Player Menu (pause)
Hit F10 at anytime to pause the game and bring up the Player
Menu. This gives you access to the following commands:
I Inventory
Equipment can mean the difference between life and death, and
it's important to know what rescurces you have. However, you
can have too much of a good thing. Carrying too much gear will
slow you down, which can be as fetal as running out of
ammunition. When you press I a sub-menu will appear. This
inventory sub-menu enables you to select any of the six categories
listed below and displays the items you are carrying in each
category.
o Weapons
o Ammo
o Clothes
o Drugs
o Tools
o Miscellaneous
P Physical Status
By pressing P you will access the Damage Screen. This will give
you current information about your physical status, allow you to
heal from injuries, and enable you to check on the physical status
of your opponent.
Damage Screen lnformation
Character Damage Gauges
On the left side of the screen is the character damage gauge,
which provides a visual display of both characters' current
physical status. This is represented by two vertical sliding bars
showing the estimated hit points left for each character. The
gauge runs from zero at the bottom to 100% at the top. You can
estimate The Terminator's status by checking the left bar and
Reese's status by checking the right.
PT Points Taken
The PT display gives you a count of the total number of hit points
your character has taken.
PL Points Left
The PL display gives you a count of the total number of hit points
you have remaining and a breakdown of the areas which have
suffered the most damage. While excessive damage to the arms
and legs will cause loss of movement, damage to your head or
torso can result in death. Head damage can also lead to
temporary blindness.
REST Estimated Repair Time
As you select body areas to heal (see Keyboard Commands,
below) the REST display will give you an estimated amount of
time that the healing will take. This is real game time. The game
is assuming that you've holed up in a hiding place of relative
safety and can get some sleep, bind wounds, allow internal
repair systems to function, etc. Some equipment will allow you
to heal faster than normally possible, but remember, while you're
healing up, somewhere out there your opponent is getting closer
and closer to carrying out his mission.
Damage Screen Keyboard Commands
Heal Damage

you. It's important to keep an eye on this window.
G Compass/Tracker
The compass display area will be blank when a new game
begins. However, if you find a compass it will be displayed in
this area as long as it remains in your inventory. When you have
the compass your direction will be indicated with a yellow line.
The tracker or green line tracks your opponent. Making the
tracker line point directly up will point you in the general direction
of your opponent. When your opponent is within range the
tracker will disappear.
Other lines (red, white and cyan) will appear briefly when shots
are fired at you. Turning to make these lines point up, will face
you in the general direction of where the shots originated.
In driving mode or full screen mode the tracker appears as a small
arrow at the bottom of the view area. In order to head straight
for your opponent, center the arrow.
H Movement Rate
This gives you an indication of your walking or running speed.
All speed measurements in The Terminator game are indicated
in kilometers per hour.
I Grenade Toss Power
This numerical display helps you judge how hard you're throwing
a grenade. To toss a grenade, select grenades from your choice
of weapons. Then hit the Enter key and hold it down! The counter
will begin to display numbers starting at 01 and quickly scrolling
to 100, The higher the number, the harder the throw. At 100
the grenade will automatically be thrown. As a word of advice,
anything below 40 and you stand a good chance of being
caught in the blast!
J Ammunition
This area shows the amount of ammunition remaining in your
primary and secondary wecpons. The top box displays ammo
left in your primary weapon, and the bottom displays ammo left
in your secondary weapon.
K Weapon Assignment Status
Displays all weapons in your current inventory. Their placement
corresponds to their assigned function key.
L Internal Status Messages
This display will give you diagnostic and target messages.
M Score
This will display your current rating.
N System Status Strobe (Terminator Only)
This continual "pulse" is an indication that The Terminator's on
board systems are all functioning within normal parameters. As
The Terminator gets more and more damaged, this strobe slows
down.
O Magnification Level
Displays current level of vision magnification.
P Store Monitor
This area will display a readout whenever the player gets near
a store that is possible to enter.
Walking Mode Keyboard Commands
L Look at Object
Occasionally you will get a message in the status window
indicating that you have noticed something on the ground. Press
L to take a look at it. It may prove to be useful! The Up Arrow
and Down Arrow keys will scroll through the items you've
found. Highlight the item you wish to pick up and press Enter.
E Enter Car
To get into any car you must stand next to it and hit the E key. Your
screen will change to the driving mode display.
B Binoculars
If you locate a set of binoculars, you can use them by hitting the
B key. This will give you 2X your normal vision. If you are playing
The Terminator and have activated your built-in Vision
Magnification System (Z key), the binoculars will provide 4X
your normal vision. Hit B again to deselect the binoculars.
S Enter Store
When you are near a store, the Status Window on your
Information View will alert you to its proximity. By hitting S you
will enter the store, providing it is open at the time. Once inside,
you can do some shopping. If you want any of the goods in the
store, place your cursor on the item using the joystick or the arrow
key, then press enter or the fire button. The options below will
appear:
o Continue
o Steal Item
o Buy Item
Choose one of these options using the highlighted hot keys. To
buy an item, you need money. Stealing an item can attract the
police if you are caught. CONTINUE will exit you from this menu
without taking any action. Press ESC to exit the store.
Movement Commands
Listed below are the commands you will use to move around in
Walking Mode.
Up Arrow o Walk Forward
Down Arrow o Walk Backward
Right Arrow o Turn Right
Left Arrow o Turn Left
Alt + Right Arrow o Move Sideways - Right
Alt + Left Arrow o Move Sideways - Left
Delete o Very Fast Left Turn
Page Down o Very Fast Right Turn
By pressing the Shift key while walking forward, you will begin
running. If you start to turn then press the Shift key, the speed of
your turn will increase. A word of caution: running effectively
doubles your current speed, but it is tiring. After a while you will
slow down to normal walking speed until you catch your breath.
1 through 0 Walking Speed
Select your desired walking speed by pressing a number key. 1
is the slowest speed, while 0 will increase your speed to the
maximum possible.

A Vehicle Hit Points
Shows how much more damage your car can take until it is
destroyed
B Speedometer
Shows vehicle speed in kilometers per hour
C Gear Shift Indicator
Displays which gear the car is currently in. Always check this
area when entering a vehicle to determine if it's a stick shift or an
automatic. There are different keyboard controls for shifting
gears (See: Driving Mode, Keyboard Controls: Shifting Gears).
D Fuel
This display shows the percentage of fuel left in the tank rather
than the number of gallons left. You can refuel by finding a gas
station and pulling up to the pump. Be warned: gas is cash only!
Driving Mode Keyboard Commands
S Start Car
When you first enter a car, hit the S key to see if you can start it.
Hold the S key down to turn the engine over until you hear it start
and/or you see the speedometer readout appear.
General Driving Controls
Listed below are the controls you will use to move around in
Driving Mode.
Up Arrow o Accelerate
Down Arrow o Decelerate
Right Arrow o Turn Right
Left Arrow o Turn Left
] Right Brackipt o Brake
These commands apply to all cars, both manual and automatic
transmission. By pressing the Shift key while using any of these
driving commands, you can increase the speed of that action. For
example, if you are backing the car normally (holding down the
] key) and realize you aren't going to stop in time to avoid hitting
that light pole, keep holding down the ] key and hit the Shift key.
Note: once you've accelerated to your desired speed, you do not
need to continue holding the arrow key to maintain that speed.
Automatic Transmission Commands
Insert o Reverse
Delete o Park
Home o Drive
End o 2nd Gear
Page Up o Neutral
Page Down o 1st Gear
Driving a car with an automatic transmission is very straight-
forward. Simply start the car, choose which gear you would like
the car to be in, and step on the gas!
Stick Shift Commands
Backspace o Clutch
Insert o 1st Gear
Delete o 2nd Gear
Home o 3rd Gear
End o 4th Gear
Page Up o Neutral
Page Down o Reverse
Driving a car with a manual transmission is a slightly more
complex proposition. First, start the car. Then hold in the clutch
and put the car into first gear. While still holding in the clutch,
give the car a little gas and release the clutch. When the
speedometer read out turns red, it is time for you to shift to the next
gear -- driving in too low a gear can damage your transmission.
Practice a while. You may burn out a few transmissions, but you'll
get the hang of it!
W Walking Mode
When you're through driving, or when you notice your car's hit
points are about to expire and you decide you want to get out
before the thing explodes, press W to exit the car and return to
Walking Mode.

///////////////////////
/ Questions & Answers /
///////////////////////
Q: How does the coordinate system work ?
A: The game map is divided into 192 sectorsacross and 128 sectors
down, with 0,0 being in the upper left corner. Those are the numbers
noted on the local map and in the upper right corner of The
Terminator's HUD(Heads Up Display). Within each sector 0,0 is the
lower left corner with the x axis going east and the z axis going
north. Y is the altitude. These numbers appear on the left side of The
Terminator's HUD and are the second set of numbers in the phone
book location information. Each of the squares on the color map
included in the game represents an 8 by 8 sector section.
Q: How do I get to a store ?
A: Hit the P key to look at the phone book, then write the location
down. Using the local map (or the HUD if you're The Terminator)
you should be able to determine the direction to travel in order to
reach it. If it is visible on the local map (M key) you can use the Fast
Travel mode to reach it (F keywhile in the map) or use the Homing
Mode (H key) if you wish to walk there. The full area map can also
be used for Homing and Fast Travel. Since the stores are always in
the same location, you may want to make a copy of the color map
and mark the stores on the copy.
Q: How do I refuel the car ?
A: Drive to a gas station and stop the car close to one of the pumps.
Messages will guide you through the procedure. Remember: you
have to pay cash for gas!
Q: Will I need to get clothes ?
A: No. When the game starts both protagonists have clothing.
Q: Why do I not always get to the exact location using
Fast Travel ?
A: Fast Travel will only get you to the approximate location. Also,
if you place your cursor on top of an object, it will move you to a legal
position as close as possible. Remember that an encouner with your
antagonists will stop your Fast Traveling in on unspecified location,
and you'll have to deal with the crisis.
Q: Why does my shift key not seem to speed up
movement ?
A: On some keyboards you need to press the shift key after the
movement key. For example, to turn right you press the right arrow
key. To turn right fast you need to press the right arrow key and then
the shift key. The order in which you press keys can be very
important.
Q: Why does the game not always respond to my key
strokes ?
A: Depending on the speed of your computer, the frame rate of the
game may vary. Try holding the key down a little longer.
Q: Are all the items in the store useful ?
A: No. Only certain items are. Sometimes it takes a combination of
items to get something useful. It's up to you to discover which items
are useful and which are just dead weight.
Q: How come the stores often seemed to be closed ?
A: The difficulty level directly determines the chance of a store being
open or closed. If you rob a store, it will close. As for banks, well,
bankers' hours...
Q: Where do I find the heavy weaponry ?
A: There are three army depots on the map in the following locations:
131 112
45 58
166 26
The coordinates given are in sectors across by sectors down.
Q: Why does throwing grenades and firing the Stinger
sometimes kill me ?
A: Make sure that they detonate some distance away from you.
Getting caught in the blast radius is unhealthy.
Q: What ammunition goes with what gun ?
A: The AK-47 and M16 clips are filled and go with their respective
weapons. The UZI and the Beretta use 9mm ammo. The box labeled
AMMO is for the 44 magnum. There is no ammo for the M60 in the
weapon store. The crate in the army depot labeled AMMO BELTS
holds the belt ammo for the M60.
Q: I seem to hit Reese, but why doesn't he die ?
A: While Reese is not as tough as The Terminator, he is a combat
hardened veteran and can take a lot of damage. Keep at it, and he
will succumb eventually.
Q: Does the tracer accurately indcate the bullet location ?
A: No. It is just a general indication. If you are The Terminator, rely
on your targeting system. If you're Reese, practice.
Q: What's the best way to heal myself ?
A: Certain items will facilitate healing. A hospital might help.
Remember that for each point you heal, time passes in the game.
Your opponent will use that time to his advantage.
Q: What are the lines that appear on my compass/tracker during combat ?
A: The lines indicate where shots are coming from. They are turn
indicators and have nothing to do with your heading. The color of
the line tells you who fired the shot. For example, a line appears
pointing to the right. To find the location where those shots are
coming from, you'll have to turn right urtil the line points up. This will
face you in the direction of where the shots were fired from.
Q: Why does the game slow down when playing on a serial link ?
A: First, a major factor is the communications overhead. Then the
computers need to sync up to each other. This means that both
machines will operate at the speed of the slowest system. To speed
it up, try playing using the keyboard and/or select minimum level
of detail (ALT-3).
