  6.        Within this package is a program called "INSTALL.EXE". VERSADEX must be
  7.    installed using "INSTALL.EXE". You must be logged onto the same drive and in
  8.    the same directory as "INSTALL.EXE" when you run "INSTALL.EXE". From the DOS
  9.    prompt, and the same drive and directory as "INSTALL.EXE", type "INSTALL"
  10.    (without quotes) and press <ENTER>, or <RETURN>. The program files will be
  11.    installed onto your "C" drive in the directory named "VERSADEX". They must
  12.    be installed to this directory for VERSADEX to operate properly. The
  13.    installation program will do everything for you including creating the
  14.    directory. Once installed be sure to read the following four files before
  15.    running VERSADEX for the first time:

  17.                   1) PACKING.LST       2) README.NOW
  18.                   3) VERSADEX.DOC      4) REGISTER.DOC

  20.    These files will be on the "C" drive, in the "VERSADEX" subdirectory.
  21.    Once the installation is finished you will find yourself in this sub-
  22.    directory on the "C" drive.

  24.    ONCE THE INSTALLATION PROGRAM IS FINISHED:

  26.    Approximately 545k of conventional DOS RAM is required to make VERSADEX
  27. memory resident. After VERSADEX becomes resident it only requires 5k. If you
  28. receive the message "Not enough memory. Program not loaded.", one of two things
  29. will have occurred:

  31.    1) You are using several TSR's (other memory resident programs) that are
  32.       being loaded ahead of VERSADEX.
  33.       SOLUTION: Load VERSADEX before the other TSR's so that when it is
  34.                 VERSADEX's turn to load, there is at least 545k free space.
  35.    
  36.    2) Device drivers in your CONFIG.SYS file are using up too much memory.
  37.       SOLUTION: See if you can live without some of them or try to reduce the
  38.                 amount of memory that each is using. For example, reduce the
  39.                 size of any RAM disks that may be in memory.

  41.    Start VERSADEX by typing "VERSADEX" (without quotes) and then pressing 
  42. <ENTER> or <RETURN>. If you have enough EXPANDED memory free, VERSADEX will
  43. try, by default, to use that area to swap itself in and out of memory. If you
  44. do not have EXPANDED memory at all or if you do not have enough EXPANDED memory
  45. free, VERSADEX will use your hard drive to swap itself in and out of memory.
  46. There are four switches that you may use with VERSADEX which you will learn
  47. about when you run VERSADEX the first time. One of these is the "D" switch
  48. which forces VERSADEX to use your hard disk to swap itself in and out of
  49. memory. If you have EXPANDED memory but would like to reserve it for uses other
  50. than VERSADEX, then use the "D" switch. The "D" switch is not necessary if you
  51. do not have EXPANDED memory. VERSADEX detects whether you have EXPANDED memory
  52. and if you have enough EXPANDED memory free, and if you do not, will use your 
  53. hard drive automatically.
