MailMiser Lite Ver. 1.3
April 1992
General: This MailMiser Lite Shareware includes many of the capabilities
of commercial MailMiser versions. Product differences are noted below.
Please see MANUAL.DOC for complete information on product capabilities.
All MailMiser versions (including MailMiser Lite) are USPS POSTNET Barcode
Certified as of April 1992.
MailMiser Lite Installation: Copy the MailMiser Lite files to an
appropriate sub-directory on your hard drive. Change to the sub-directory,
then enter MMLITE <CR> to start the program.
Product Descriptions:
MailMiser Plus ($195 List Price) Contains: (1) A 43,000+ record ZIP Code
Database. Each record contains a City Name, State, County, County FIPS
Code, and ZIP Code Type. This enables automatic entry of this information,
based on the 5 digit ZIP, thus speeding data entry and minimizing errors.
It also allows list selection and extraction based on these fields in
addition to other selection criteria. (2) An ordered file export function
allowing integration with word processing and other software. The exported
file is produced in the same order as the previous mailpiece run (1st or
3rd class presort order, etc.). The feature is generally used in
conjunction with WP mail merge operations to eliminate manual sorting of
letters into presort order. It is also useful for printing personalized
messages on the reverse of continuous form card stock.
The Plus version also has complete 1st & 3rd class rate structures (Letter,
Flat, Postcard, Over 3.3 oz) including nonprofit. Calculates pieces for
15 lb qualifier, if appropriate. Prints Presort reports by qualifying groups
and pieces, and rate extensions with total postage due!!! Qualifying reports
by CAR-RT, Basic Presort, 3/5 Presort, 5-Digit ZIP+4 BARCODE, etc., etc.
Saves untold time and frustration preparing documentation for mailings,
plus... it's correct! Reports may be generated withOUT printing `labels'.
MailMiser ($145 List Price) does not include the ZIP database (and by
extension, the extra fields for County, FIPS Code, and ZIP Code Type).
Other features and functions are identical in all other respects.
MailMiser Lite ($59 License and Registration Fee): The Lite Version is
designed for smaller mailers who do not need the following Standard
MailMiser functions:
* Support for specialty envelope or line printers (and associated print
to file/device options), or
* Cheshire labeling (which can be set up by you as custom form sizes).
MailMiser Lite Trial System Limitations: Delivery Point Barcodes are
supported under current USPS regulations. The method of generating Delivery
Point Barcodes will change, however, by the end of 1992. Free upgrade to
the new method will be provided to registered users (we also will send you
a manual, upgrade notices, etc., upon receipt of payment/registration).
Also note that the use of Delivery Point Barcodes is not required at this
time to qualify for automation discounts, but will be required within the
next few months.
Your registration is urged so that you can benefit from continued use of
Delivery Point Barcodes as USPS rules and regulations change.
Printer Support: 1. All printer drivers have been tested and are at a
production release level. 2. Note that Windows overhead will cause speed
degradation. If you are printing many labels, it may be advisable to exit
Windows entirely before running MailMiser Lite to do your print job.
Trial System Documentation: A text-only version of the manual is included
with the software (the file name is MANUAL.DOC). It can be TYPEd or
PRINTed if you so desire. The document is approximately 40 pages long.
Please note that feature and function differences between MailMiser and
MailMiser Lite are noted in the text, but this README.TXT file takes
precedence because of periodic updates to the various versions.
Also please take particular note of the CASS.TXT file which accompanies the
MailMiser Lite distribution. It discusses requirements of the USPS Coding
Accuracy Support System (CASS). There is a great deal of confusion about
this subject (not the least of which is inside the USPS itself). A firm
understanding of the meaning and requirements of CASS Certification will
help you in your dealings at the post office. This important file should
accompany any copies of MailMiser Lite that you pass along to your friends
and associates - please help us help the next person by including it upon
redistribution of the software.
Last, but not least, thanks for your interest in MailMiser Lite. We trust
that you will find it to be a valuable, money saving tool for your business
or non-profit organization.
