  8.    This file contains information that you MUST read before
  9.    attempting to install TPBoard.  This information may be
  10.    notice of last minutes changes or corrections to the 
  11.    documentation.

  13.    FILES
  14.       
  15.       Your copy of TPBoard should contain the following files:
  16.  
  17.       TPB71EXE.EXE  the TPBoard executable files
  18.       TPB71CON.EXE  the TPBoard sysop utility CONS.EXE
  19.       TPB71DOC.EXE  the TPBoard documentation
  20.       TPB71UTL.EXE  the TPBoard support utilities
  21.       TPB71NED.EXE  the NEd and SED editors
  22.       TPB71TXT.EXE  sample TPBoard Sysmsg files

  25.    INSTALLING the TPBoard files
  26.  
  27.       Make a directory called TPB on the drive where you will be 
  28.       installing TPBoard.  When selecting this drive, consider that
  29.       TPBoard can require as much as 1.5mg of disk space WITHOUT an
  30.       established message base.

  32.       To install on the C drive:
  33.  
  34.          CD C:
  35.          MD TPBOARD
  36.          CD TPBOARD
  37.  
  38.       Copy all the TPBoard files to this directory from EACH 
  39.       distribution disk:

  41.          COPY A:\*.*
  42.  
  43.       The TPBoard files are distributed as self-extracting compressed
  44.       files.  The next step is to run each archive to extract (create)
  45.       the files contained within them.  Following extraction, delete 
  46.       the original archive executable.  For example:

  48.         TPB7EXE               ; extract the TPB executable
  49.         DEL TPB7EXE.EXE       ; delete the archive
  50.         TPB7CONS              ; extract the CONS setup program
  51.         DEL TPB7CONS.EXE      ; delete the CONS archive
  52.         TPB7DOCS              ; extract the TPB DOCS
  53.         DEL TPB7DOCS.EXE      ; delete the archive
  54.         TPB7TEXT              ; extract the sample system text
  55.         DEL TPB7TEXT.EXE      ; delete the archive
  56.         TPB7UTIL              ; extract the TPB utilities 
  57.         DEL TPB7UTIL.EXE      ; delete the archive
  58.         TPB7NED               ; extract the NED/SED editors

  62.       Do *NOT* attempt to run TPB.EXE without FIRST reading the 
  63.       documentation section on INSTALLATION and editing the
  64.       system settings in CONS.  TPB must be setup for YOUR 
  65.       hardware and configuration before you attempt to run the 
  66.       program.  This will only take a few minutes, so take the 
  67.       time now!

  70.    CHANGES/CORRECTIONS
  71.  
  72.    A)  Sample Database in TPB71UTL
  73.  
  74.    There are 3 new menu commands added in 7.1  All of these new
  75.    commands are in the Database menu and should be edited/added
  76.    to your TPBmenus file IF you do not want to use the new TPBMENUS
  77.    as distributed.  See the Install.doc for more information.

  79.    A sample database for using the database functions has been
  80.    added to the TPB71UTL archive at the last minute.  This is a
  81.    very small database in the same format as produced by ListUpdt
  82.    using the FidoNet nodelist.  All of the bulletin boards in the
  83.    sample database are running TPBoard 7.1.   To setup this sample
  84.    database:
  85.  
  86.       - create a directory called BOARDS
  87.       - copy all the .spc, .hdr, .inf, .dbf, and .rpt files 
  88.         from the tpb71utl archive into the BOARDS directory
  89.       - add a database (in CONS) with the name BOARDS 
  90.       - run TPB and select the BOARDS database
  91.       - select the B)rowse command
  92.       - that's it!

  97.    There is a file called TPBoard.KE! contained in the TPB71EXE
  98.    archive.  This is a demo key file that will enable the 
  99.    functioning of the TPBoard+ features for the Sysop ONLY.  If
  100.    you do not have the plus version of TPBoard and want to play
  101.    with those features, this key (when renamed to tpboard.KEY)
  102.    will allow you to do that.  BUT!!!  So long as the key remains
  103.    in your TPBoard system directory, no one but the sysop will
  104.    be allowed to call in.

  108.    The version being released as of 4/12 is called 7.11.  The only
  109.    difference between 7.1 and 7.11 is the addition of ARJ to the
  110.    download from archive function.

  113.    USING THE DOCS FILES
  114.  
  115.    The documentation files that come with the shareware version
  116.    of TPBoard are totally unformatted.  They are intended for
  117.    use in their distributed form -- as a disk file.  We have 
  118.    found that relatively few people actually print documentation,
  119.    prefering instead to consult the disk files when needed.  
  120.  
  121.    Moreover, formatting requires making assumptions about the 
  122.    printer that will be used; an assumption which will not be 
  123.    100% accurate 100% of the time.  Printed and bound documentation
  124.    is available with Level2 registration.

  127.    THE SYSMSG FILES
  128.  
  129.    The Sysmsg.txt files contain all the sysop configurable screens
  130.    displayed throughout TPBoard.  The SysmsgG.txt provides the ansi
  131.    screens.  The sample SysmsgG file does NOT contain any ansi 
  132.    screens, however; you must create your own using any of the 
  133.    available ansi editors.

  139.                     USE OF TPBOARD AND PROGRAMS
  140.  
  141.    The TPBoard Bulletin Board system is distributed as shareware 
  142.    for home/hobbyiest use,  but must be licensed for use within a 
  143.    business, corporation, or organization.  This includes educational 
  144.    institutions, government agencies, and public agencies without 
  145.    exception.  In addition, business and commercial as defined is 
  146.    extended to include the running of TPBoard within such confines 
  147.    for ANY purpose whatsoever. 
  148.  
  149.    If you are a shareware distributor, you may distribute all 
  150.    software listed above (in the registration form) as long as you 
  151.    contact Online Communications for permission first.   You must 
  152.    distribute all the files intact  and in unmodified form and may 
  153.    not charge more than a reasonable disk copying fee.  You must 
  154.    obtain updates from our BBS at the number below.   If you are a 
  155.    System Operator and run any version of TPBoard, you may make the 
  156.    TPBoard distributed acrhives available for download providing 
  157.    they are distributed AS-IS and they have not been modified in any 
  158.    way.  Adding ANY material to the distribution archives violates
  159.    your agreement and your license to run TPBoard in any form.
