T P B O A R D 7.1
TPBoard is a full featured bulletin board system for PC-DOS
and MS-DOS computers. With the release of version 7.1,
remains at the forefront of computer bulletin board systems.
The essential philosophy of TPBoard is minimum maintenance.
It is not unusual to have a TPBoard system running in less
than an hour! After all, the amount of time required for you
to maintain your system will directly affect how much enjoyment
you get out of your system. We've even heard testimonials from
people who have tried to set up the "feline" board and finally
switched to TPBoard after weeks of frustration. A difficult
and complicated setup isn't our idea of a Wild! time.
While most bulletin boards appear to be the same from a
caller's perspective, most differ widely in how they achieve
the very same features. For example, many bbs packages store
file descriptions in simple ascii text files (PCBoard). While
such files can speed up global searches slightly, they make
management of your Files areas a virtual nightmare. Conversely,
all of TPBoard's important databases -- the Files, Messages, and
Users files -- are multi-keyed btree indexed for super fast
access. You won't sit for minutes waiting for a new mail check
as I have when calling other systems!
Some of the key features of TPBoard are:
o The industry's most compact message base format.
For a message oriented bbs, NOTHING can come close to
the disk efficiency of TPBoard.
o Individual message size up to 32k with the range settable
by the sysop from 8 to 32k. Many boards limit the actual
number of lines a caller can type (both WildCat! and PCBoard
limit message size in this way).
o ALL internal protocols. While many bulletin board systems
still rely on external programs for advanced protocols such
as Zmodem, TPBoard has had complete internal protocols for
YEARS!
o Advanced file handling including:
- file tagging and downloading
- editing of tagged files
- status bars for the sysop showing download progress
- download across file areas
- download using wildcard characters
- automatic releasing of files after an "aging" period
- "Type" files on-line, including LBR, ARC, PAK, ZIP,
and LZH member files.
- download individual files from within ARC, PAK, ZIP, and
LZH files!
- extended file descriptions of *ANY* length
- automatic support for SDN areas and TICK file imports
o Split screen chat with callers.
o Internal support for fast IEMSI logins.
o INTERNAL support for the XRS off-line reader program. Ascii
download of messages for non-XRS users.
o Up to 255 message areas and 255 files areas. Many boards
support only 200 message areas.
o Network compatible message importing -- your nodes stay up
during mail processing.
o Renumbers thousands of messages in minutes.
o Internal support for accessing dBaseIII files including
access level support, sysop configurable report layouts,
and more.
o Callers can sort file areas online by Name, Ext, Size, Date
o System generated menus based on caller privilege settings.
o Fast logins for local sysop access
o FULL network (LAN) support for up to 99 user INCLUDED!
o Full support for the most popular door calling conventions
o EGA/VGA mode support for the sysop's console
o Full screen setup and file management utilities INCLUDED
o ANSI emulation for the sysop's console
o Virus scanning via 4k shell (SHEZ)
o Multi-language support for up to 10 system text sets
o Auto detection of remote ansi capability
o Callers can transfer files to one another using a PRIVATE file
area.

Perhaps as important, TPBoard has grown and continues to grow
based on user comments and user suggestions. It is NOT unusual
for a sysop to offer a suggestion for a new feature (or a twist
on an old feature) only to have the feature implemented and
available to all users in a matter of DAYS! Try to do that with
the so-called boards! Releases are scheduled about every 3-4
months to get new features out as quickly as possible; most boards
have releases every 1-2 years!
NOTE: all of the above features are based upon the technical
specifications available in the last version of the software
as reviewed. We apologize for any errors due to new releases.
