Operate all types of active and passive sonars, sonar simulators, internal and underwater communication equipment, bathythermograph equipment and sonobuoys.
As members of the ship's Action Information Organisation, assist the ship's command personnel in navigation and control of ships and aircraft by searching, detecting, evaluating, classifying, tracking and reporting sonar and intelligence data.
Gather and evaluate oceanographic data, and adjust oceanographic equipment in order to obtain the best displays of oceanographic data.
Perform operator function checks on equipment by using Built-in Test Equipment, Integrated Test Equipment, and basic on-line fault diagnostic procedures.
Identify significant features of displayed oceanographic data.
Prepare and maintain visual displays of analysed data using status boards, charts, watchkeeping records, and convert analysed data into comprehensive reports.
Operate data transmission systems.
TRAINING
Initial occupational training is 24 weeks in Canadian Forces Fleet School Esquimalt, British Columbia.
ACCREDITATION
Investigating coastal colleges for diploma credits in related field.
