  5. Here are some the common questions that I have been asked regarding yahtChallenge.

  7. To find the answer to your questions, please do refer to the manual and if it
  8. is not there try searching for it in this FAQ. If you are still not satisfied
  9. with the answer or cannot find the answer, you are most welcome to send me an
  10. e-mail on your questions.

  13. 1. Question: When playing Double/Triple yahtC, how can I change the score
  14.              to display the base score instead of the multiplied score ?
  15.  
  16.    Answer  : Tap on the LEFT SECTION, TOTAL/REQIRED SCORE line, below the
  17.              Score boxes to toggle the display. The GRAND TOTAL will still
  18.              Show the final multiplied score.

  33. 2. Question: How can I change the LEFT SECTION display to show required score
  34.              to earn bonus instead of the current total score.

  52. 3. Question: Why when I score the second yahtC, I do not have another turn ?
  53.  
  54.    Answer  : Check your rule setting when you start a new game. You will only
  55.              get another turn if the Standard rule is used. Please refer to
  56.              the manual for detail information.

  59. 4. Question: The DICE value is not random, why is it so ?
  60.  
  61.    Answer  : The dice value is generated using the PalmOS random number
  62.              generator. I have run a test on the random number generator for
  63.              100, 1000, 100000, and 1000000 iterations and the number 
  64.              distribution is less than 5% variance for each case,
  65.              which I think is acceptable.

  67.              I have tried using other random number generator and the result is
  68.              the same.

  71. 5. Question: The DICE rolling is more random when I select SLOW dice rolling 
  72.              speed compare to FAST rolling speed. Why is it so ?
  73.  
  74.    Answer  : Both setting SLOW and FAST uses the same routine to generate the
  75.              value for each dice. The only difference is, in FAST setting, there
  76.              is no delay/wait between the generation of each dice value.

  79. 5. Question: Where is the MENU to access the program Preferences ?
  80.  
  81.    Answer  : To get to the MENU, you need to press the MENU SCREEN BUTTON. This
  82.              button is on the left of the Graffiti area and below the PROGRAM
  83.              LAUNCHER SCREEN BUTTON.

  85.              In version 2.0 of yahtC with SMART MENU feature, you can write the
  86.              letter "P" or "p" to access the PREFERENCE as well. Please refer to
  87.              the documentation for a detail description.

  90. 6. Question: Does the computer player cheat ?
  91.  
  92.    Answer  : The computer does not cheat. When rolling dice it uses the same
  93.              Routine that generates your dice value. There is no manipulation of
  94.              the dice value at all by the computer and all value is generated
  95.              using the PalmOS random number generator.

  98. 7. Question: Is there a back door ?
  99.  
  100.    Answer  : Yes, there is. It is used by me to debug and test out various
  101.              Scoring combination. This routine is never used by the computer at
  102.              all, ie. It don't cheat.
  103.  
  104.              As for how to activate it, I leave it as a challenge to all of you. 
  105.              If you find the way to activate it and used it, please send me an
  106.              e-mail, detailing the exact steps taken to activate it and steps to
  107.              use it. Be specific.

  115. 8. Question: Why is gray-scale not supported on my PalmPilot or compatible,
  116.              where I have other software that does gray-scale support ?
  117.  
  118.    Answer:   Gray-scale support is officially supported under PalmOS 3.5. 
  119.              For gray-scale mode you need a minimum of PalmOS 3.5.
  120.  
  121.              Other developers implemented gray-scale support for PalmOS 3.0 and 
  122.              PalmOS 3.3 by programming directly the display hardware. The
  123.              Program will failed when new hardware is used. The program may
  124.              conflict with future version of PalmOS and will not run properly.
  125.  
  126.              To provide greater compatibility and reduce potential problems, I
  127.              have decided not to use any features that is not officially
  128.              supported by PalmOS.

  131. 9. Question: Under Standard rule, when I score yahtC the second time, the yahtC
  132.              score changes from 100 back to 50. Is this a bug ?
  133.  
  134.    Answer:   Under Standard rule, when you score yahtC for the second time, you
  135.              Will get to roll the dice again for another turn of scoring. 
  136.  
  137.              When you select yahtC the second time, you will get a message
  138.              "yahtC BONUS ! - The same player has another go." 
  139.  
  140.              You will need to press the NEXT button to roll the dice for your
  141.              bonus turn. If at this point instead of pressing the NEXT button,
  142.              you select another score category, this is basically changing your
  143.              scoring decision for the current dice value.
  144.  
  145.              The message "The same player has another go." may have been
  146.              Misinterpreted as scoring again with the same dice value.
  147.  
  148.              If you have follow the instructions correctly and still have the
  149.              problem, made sure you are using version 2.0.1 or newer. There is a
  150.              bug in version 2.0 under certain condition.

  153. 10. Question: How do I undo my scoring selection ?
  154.  
  155.    Answer:   As long as you have not press the NEXT button, you can change your
  156.              Current scoring by selecting the new scoring or selecting the same
  157.              scoring to undo it. If you have HINT enabled, if you undo your
  158.              score, the hint scoring will be redisplayed.
