  9. Thank you for trying DoubleDown.  DoubleDown is a stud poker game 
  10. for the Palm Pilot that has basically the same rules as the Double Down
  11. game that is played in many casinos.
  12.  
  13. By playing the game on your Pilot, you can quickly try a number of betting
  14. strategies, and perhaps you can learn to play better and win a few bucks 
  15. next time you go to the casino.  
  16.  
  17. The initial bankroll provided by this program is $500.  If you run out
  18. of money, you will need to register the program in order to be able to
  19. "buy" additional chips and continue playing the game.  The registration fee
  20. is just $5.00.  A small sum for all the enjoyment you will get from this
  21. game!

  30. How to Play

  33. The screen for the game is divided as follows:

  49. The ante amount can be changed by selecting inside the Ante area.  Valid
  50. ante amounts are $5 to $25 in increments of $5.  After selecting the ante
  51. amount, press the Deal button to start the game.
  52.  
  53. When the deal button is pressed, you start by wagering an amount equal to
  54. ante amount.  Five cards are dealt, with four of the cards being exposed 
  55. and the remaining card being covered.

  57. After the cards are dealt, the "Stnd" and "Dbl" buttons are displayed in the
  58. Play Buttons area.  If you like your cards, you may press the Dbl button to
  59. double your bet.  If you do not like your cards, you may press the Stnd
  60. button to leave your bet as-is.

  62. After either button is pressed, the covered card is exposed.  If the
  63. player has a pair of sixes or better he is paid based on the amount of bet
  64. and the payout odds, which are based on the final hand.

  79. The Hint button in the upper right corner of the screen displays a window
  80. that provides the probabilities of various hands occurring.  It also
  81. calculates the player's probability of winning.  If the probability of a 
  82. player win is greater than 50 percent, then a "Dbl" recommendation is made.  
  83. Otherwise, a "Stay" recommendation is made.  NOTE:  The probabilities are 
  84. in the range of 0 to 1.0, where 1.0 represents 100 percent probability of winning.

  86. Since you cannot lose with a pair of sixes or better, it is in your best
  87. interest to double the bet when you have a pair of sixes or better showing, and
  88. to stand if you have a low possibility of finishing with a paying hand.

  117. To register by mail, please send a check or money order for $5(US). Make 
  118. check payable to Rose Software, and write "DoubleDown" on the check.

  120. Please include your email address so that I can send you a registration
  121. code.  Your registration code will then need to be entered via the
  122. Register option in the pulldown menu in order to activate the ability
  123. to purchase additional chips and to be able to reset the statistics.

  125. Your inclusion of an e-mail address also allows me to notify you of updates
  126. and future products.  If you would not like this automatic notification,
  127. please let me know.  I hate spam as much as you do.  Rest assured that
  128. your e-mail address will never be given or sold to any other parties.

  130. $5.00 is a small sum for the amount of enjoyment this game will provide.
  131. That's only one bet at a casino, and it lasts lots longer.  Additionally,

  145. -------------

  147. Install DoubleDown.prc using instapp.exe.
  148. instapp.exe can be found in your pilot directory. (ex.c:\pilot\instapp.exe)
  149.  
  150. Alternately, this application can be installed via the Palm Desktop application.
  151. Go to the "Install" Icon under Palm Desktop, and then click "Add...".  This 
  152. will bring up a browse window which you can use to find DoubleDown.prc.  Select
  153. DoubleDown.prc, and the next time you do a HotSync, the application will be
  154. transferred to your Palm Pilot.
