WinYotZ by Todd Short/Short Software v2.0e
(C) 1992, 1993 Todd Short/Short Software
Note: This program is SHAREWARE! If it NOT public domain. There is a 30
day grace/try-out period. If you use this piece of software, enjoy it, and
find it useful/fun/whatever, please pay a measly $15 an register this
program. If you do register, I may be encouraged to update this program, or
make others. If you choose to not register, you must remove the game from
your computer, and erase any copies of it that you may have 30 days after
you first acquire WinYotZ.
You may pass this program to others, but you must follow these rules:
1. All four files (WINYOTZ.TXT, WINYOTZ.EXE, WINYOTZ.HLP and
BWCC.DLL) must be passed on as well, IN THEIR ORIGINAL ZIP'D
FORM, INTACT.
2. No charge be made for this program (except for the cost of the
actual physical disk/duplicating costs).
Also note that BWCC.DLL is included. According to Borland's License
Agreement I have to:
a) Include it ONLY as PART of my software product. OK
b) Do not use the Borland logo/name to market my product. OK
c) Hold Borland not accountable for anything. OK
In addition, I claim NO LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES from any use of
(or inability to use) this software product. In no way shall I, Todd Short,
Short Software, or Borland (nor my employer), be held liable for use or
misuse, leading to the destruction of hardware, or software, or loss of time
or money. The software is provided AS IS, with NO IMPLIED WARRANTY of any
kind. Naturally, the laws in all states differ, so any rights you have may
vary from state to state.
Enough formalities.
INSTALLATION
WinYotZ is a MS Windows 3.x version of the popular dice game. It must run
in Standard or 386 Enhanced mode. WinYotZ needs a mouse. WinYotZ may not
support EGA.
To install:
1. Copy winyotz.* into a directory, such as C:\WINDOWS.
2. Make an icon for it in a program group.
3. Ta-dah!
To uninstall:
1. Remove the WinYotZ icon from Program Manager, Norton Desktop,
or whatever shell you use.
2. Delete yahtzee.*, wherever you put it. WinYotZ creates only one
file, WINYOTZ.SCO.
a. WINYOTZ.EXE
b. WINYOTZ.TXT
c. WINYOTZ.HLP
d. WINYOTZ.SCO
3. Remove the [WinYotZ] section from WIN.INI (use SYSEDIT.EXE).
4. Delete BWCC.DLL unless:
a. You are a licensed user of a Borland Language Product.
b. You have other programs that use Borland-style dialogs.
Make sure that you either have WINYOTZ.HLP in the C:\WINDOWS directory, or
that you execute WINYOTZ.EXE from its home directory, where WINYOTZ.HLP is
stored.
The help file included is o.k.
FILES
WINYOTZ.EXE - The executable file
WINYOTZ.HLP - The Windows Help file
WINYOTZ.TXT - This information file
WINYOTZ.SCO - The High Score file (made when WinYotZ first starts)
BWCC.DLL - The Borland Custom Control/Dialog Box Styling DLL
All these files should be in the same directory, or at least the WINYOTZ.*
files should be. BWCC.DLL should probably be located in the WINDOWS
home directory.
For those of you concerned with viruses, if you have McAfee's VALIDATE (v0.4)
program that comes with SCAN, you can use it on WINYOTZ.EXE with these
results (Version 2.0e only):
File Name: winyotz.exe
Size: 192,784
Date: 12-21-1993
File Authentication:
Check Method 1 - 1EEB
Check Method 2 - 1D65
The same with BWCC.DLL:
File Name: bwcc.dll
Size: 130,224
Date: 6-10-1992
File Authentication:
Check Method 1 - 31B4
Check Method 2 - 0296
WINYOTZ.HLP is a Windows Help file, if you want to just look at it without
running WinYotZ, under Program Manager, to File, Run... and type:
WINHELP WINYOTZ.HLP
And it'll display the help file for you.
WINYOTZ.SCO is a binary file, you don't want to edit it.
FEATURES
* Multiple player implementation of a famous dice game.
* YotZ bonuses, for more than one YotZ.
* A Triple YotZ mode.
* Score suggestion, also, displays what scoring options give a non-zero
score.
* Top Ten list.
* Multiple dice types, and customization.
* Undo of scoring errors.
CUSTOMIZING DICE
In order to use Custom in Dice..., you must modify the first 12 icons after
the 1st one in the .EXE. There are some good icon editors out there that can
edit icons in an .EXE (the Norton Desktop's Icon Editor will work). Each die
is comprised of two icons, a selected icon, and a unselected icon. The dice
are stored numerically, with the selected die stored first. The first icon
in the file is the default icon to be used in Program Manager.
BUGS
There are none that I know exist.

If you're interested:
My system is a Treasure Chest (now TC Computer) 386SX-16 (with a 386DX-40
motherboard upgrade), with 8 MB RAM. I have one 200MB and a 234MB harddisk
both doubled with Stacker 3.0, and have a Diamond SpeedStar 24X. I run DOS
6.2 with an NDOS (4DOS) shell, 386MAX 7.0 and Windows 3.1. WinYotZ v2.0 was
developed with Borland C/C++ (with Application Frameworks) v3.1. WinYotZ has
no problems with the previous software. WinYotZ's dialogs/windows are
optimized for standard VGA.
The program was started in June of 1991, when I was an Intern at Microsoft.
The program was put on hold while I went back to UMass, Amherst to complete
my Engineering degree. The program was upgraded during my last few months at
UMass (April and May 1992). The program was put on hold during the summer
of 1992, and in October, I finally put some finishing touches on.
April and May of 1993 saw the developement of WinYotZ 2.0. No major changes
were made, except that it was written in C, and Suggest... was removed.
The original version was written in Microsoft's Visual Basic v1.0. Why was
it written in Visual Basic? Because it's a powerful, easy-to-use
programming environment, that allowed me to do things that would have taken
me months to do (especially considering I have been doing this part-time).
