MATH CASTLE FOR WINDOWS - VERSION 2.0
=====================================
Notice: Math Castle requires that you use a "Small Font" driver for
Windows. In some cases, use of the "Large Font" drivers will cause
improper placement of certain graphic elements on the screen when you run
Math Castle. To remedy this, select the "Small Font" driver.
-------------------------
Math Castle For Windows Version 2.0 has been developed in response to the
need that some users have to limit the students ability to access certain
functions and utilities from within Math Castle. It is designed to provide
the security needed to run Math Castle on networks or in schools or other
multi-user environments where some measure of control is needed. While
Version 1.2 allowed students access to all program functions, Version 2.0
restricts students from sensitive program functions such as deleting
student records and from changing setup options. These functions are now
controlled by a separate program called "THE MATH CASTLE ADMINISTRATOR".
Use the Math Castle Administrator to configure and setup Math Castle. It
can also be used to prevent students from deleting their own records or
other students records from the player database, and prevent the entry of
frivolous names or more than one name per player. You can prevent a
student from playing games using another student's name, (and thereby
putting scores in another player's file), by requiring password
identification before a player can gain access.
You can require that a password be required to gain access to the Math
Castle Administrator program. On multiuser systems, you should initially
set this password before one of your students does!
-------------------------
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
-------------------------
Math Castle comes in a self-extracting archive file WINCASTL.EXE. When you
run WINCASTL.EXE it will expand into three files: DISK_1.EXE, DISK_2.EXE
and README.TXT, (this file). DISK_1.EXE and DISK_2.EXE are also
self-extracting archive files and by placing the contents of each of these
files on two 5.25" 1.2mb floppies or on two 3.5" 1.44mb floppies, you can
create installable diskettes that can be used to install Math Castle on
your system. These diskettes can also be used to share Math Castle with
others.
To create installable diskettes, format two 5.25" 1.2mb or two 3.5" 1.44mb
diskettes. Label them Math Castle #1, and Math Castle #2. Then place
DISK_1.EXE in a temporary directory by itself and run it to extract the
files from it. Copy all of these files, (not including DISK_1.EXE), to the
Math Castle #1 diskette. Repeat this process with DISK_2.EXE using the
Math Castle #2 diskette. You can now install Math Castle from these
diskettes.
Please feel free to share this unregistered version of Math Castle with
others. If you want to upload this program to other Bulletin Boards or to
other users, please use the original WINCASTL.EXE file.
If you want to skip the step of making installable diskettes, then move
DISK_1.EXE and DISK_2.EXE into a temporary directory and then run each of
them to extract the Math Castle files. You are now ready to run the setup
program.
Once you have completed installation, you can delete the Math Castle files
used during installation from your temporary directory(s).
------------------------------------
To Run the Math Castle Setup Program:
------------------------------------
1. Insert your Math Castle diskette #1 into drive A or drive B. (Floppy
drive installation only).
2. Start Windows (if presently not running under windows).
3. From the Program Manager select "File" from the Menu Bar, and then
choose "Run".
4. If you are installing from drive A then type: "A:SETUP". If you are
installing from drive B then type: "B:SETUP". If you are installing
from a directory on your hard drive then type: "C:\TEMP\SETUP" where
"C:\TEMP" = the drive and path containing the Math Castle installation
files.
5. Press [Enter] or click on [OK].
6. Setup will automatically complete installation for you.
