About WC3JOY.DLL
----------------
WC3JOY.DLL is a set of alternate joystick routines used to provide
support for Thrustmaster (TM) and 100%-compatible joystick (such as
the Logitech Wingman Extreme). Joysticks tested include the
Thrustmaster FCS, the Thrustmaster FLCS, and the Logitech Wingman
Extreme.

NOTE : THIS PATCH MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU! Machines of different
speeds return different joystick values (hence, the need for
joystick calibration). During testing of these routines, it
appeared that machines that returned high-end values for the
right-most and down-most positions (in excess of approximately
1300) would have trouble looking down and left. If this is
what is happening in your case, you may be a prime candidate
for a speed-adjustable game card.

Installation of WC3JOY.DLL
--------------------------
1) Change to the directory where WC3JOY.EXE was extracted.
2) Copy the WC3JOY.DLL file to the C:\WC3 directory, i.e. :
COPY WC3JOY.DLL C:\WC3 [ENTER]
3) Run Wing Commander III. You will be asked to to calibrate
the hat. The values that you read represent the hat status.
Hat status for UP, DOWN, LEFT, and RIGHT MUST differ from
CENTER. Follow the directions and calibrate accordingly.
4) Once you're into the game, your joystick may drift. This is
due to the fact that alternate joystick routines are being
used rather than the ones used when you initially installed
the game. Simply recalibrate by selecting Calibrate Joystick
in the Main Terminal, or press [ALT-J] in gameflow or [ALT-C]
in space flight.
5) Once you're in space flight, activate Thrustmaster as the
control type in the Spaceflight Options menu [ALT-O]. This
will allow you to use all four buttons. That's it! The hat
and all four buttons work as follows :
HAT UP F1 - Front View; Toggle cockpit
HAT LEFT F2 - Left View
HAT RIGHT F3 - Right View
HAT DOWN F4 - Rear View
Thrustmaster Controls
Trigger Fire guns
Top Thumb Button Joystick Button 2
Bottom Thumb Button Fire Missile
Pinky Button "Y" - Lock on closest enemy in
view and match speed
Logitech Wingman Extreme Controls
Trigger Fire guns
Top Thumb Button Joystick Button 2
Bottom Thumb Button "Y" - Lock on closest enemy in
view and match speed
Middle Thumb Button Fire Missile

Notes
-----
* You MUST have a working Thrustmaster compatible joystick to
use this patch. If the joystick is unplugged, if there is
a joystick port conflict, or if the joystick or port is faulty,
you may not be able to successfully use this patch.
* Tap the hat in the particular direction, don't hold there.
* Check out the WC3 Technical Help File (WC3HELP.TXT) on our
BBS (512-331-4446) or the Internet (ftp.ea.com
/pub/patches/wc3help.txt)!
* Thanks to Jason Yenawine and James Flores.
