  15. About WC3JOY.DLL
  16. ----------------

  18.   WC3JOY.DLL is a set of alternate joystick routines used to provide 
  19.   support for Thrustmaster (TM) and 100%-compatible joystick (such as 
  20.   the Logitech Wingman Extreme). Joysticks tested include the
  21.   Thrustmaster FCS, the Thrustmaster FLCS, and the Logitech Wingman
  22.   Extreme.

  26.   |  NOTE : THIS PATCH MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU! Machines of different  |
  27.   |  speeds return different joystick values (hence, the need for   |
  28.   |  joystick calibration). During testing of these routines, it    |
  29.   |  appeared that machines that returned high-end values for the   |
  30.   |  right-most and down-most positions (in excess of approximately |
  31.   |  1300) would have trouble looking down and left. If this is     |
  32.   |  what is happening in your case, you may be a prime candidate   |                                                               
  33.   |  for a speed-adjustable game card.                              |

  37. Installation of WC3JOY.DLL
  38. --------------------------

  40.   1)    Change to the directory where WC3JOY.EXE was extracted.
  41.   
  42.   2)    Copy the WC3JOY.DLL file to the C:\WC3 directory, i.e. :

  44.             COPY WC3JOY.DLL C:\WC3   [ENTER]
  45.  
  46.   3)    Run Wing Commander III. You will be asked to to calibrate 
  47.         the hat. The values that you read represent the hat status. 
  48.         Hat status for UP, DOWN, LEFT, and RIGHT MUST differ from 
  49.         CENTER. Follow the directions and calibrate accordingly.
  50.  
  51.   4)    Once you're into the game, your joystick may drift. This is 
  52.         due to the fact that alternate joystick routines are being 
  53.         used rather than the ones used when you initially installed 
  54.         the game. Simply recalibrate by selecting Calibrate Joystick 
  55.         in the Main Terminal, or press [ALT-J] in gameflow or [ALT-C]
  56.         in space flight.

  58.   5)    Once you're in space flight, activate Thrustmaster as the 
  59.         control type in the Spaceflight Options menu [ALT-O]. This 
  60.         will allow you to use all four buttons. That's it! The hat
  61.         and all four buttons work as follows :

  63.         HAT UP          F1 - Front View; Toggle cockpit
  64.         HAT LEFT        F2 - Left  View
  65.         HAT RIGHT       F3 - Right View
  66.         HAT DOWN        F4 - Rear  View

  88.         DEL C:\WC3\WC3JOY.DLL   [ENTER]

  94.   *     You MUST have a working Thrustmaster compatible joystick to 
  95.         use this patch. If the joystick is unplugged, if there is 
  96.         a joystick port conflict, or if the joystick or port is faulty,
  97.         you may not be able to successfully use this patch.

  99.   *     Tap the hat in the particular direction, don't hold there.
