  29.  
  30. 1.  Insert CD-ROM of  IndyCar Racing II Demo into CD-ROM drive.
  31. 2.  From a DOS prompt, type the drive letter (for example, D:),  <ENTER>.
  32. 3.  Type  INSTALL <ENTER>.
  33. 4.  Enter the letter of the drive  to install to (C), press <ENTER>.
  34. 5.  Enter the directory to install to (\ICR2DEMO),  press <ENTER>.
  35. 6.  When you see "Installation Successful Press Any Key to View 
  36.     README.TXT", press <ENTER>

  38. The Setup Program
  39.  
  40. Setup Sound Card -- Automatic
  41. 1.  Select Setup Sound Card - Automatic   from the menu.
  42. 2.  A warning will appear.  Read it, and then choose Continue With 
  43.     Automatic Setup.  (If you do not wish to continue, choose Return to 
  44.     Main Menu and choose Setup Sound Card - Manual.  See instructions 
  45.     below.)
  46. 3.  The Setup Program will try to automatically detect your sound card setup.
  47.     If it is successful, choose Accept Current Values and Proceed to test.
  48. 4.  If you hear digital sound, choose Return to Main Menu.  If you do not, 
  49.     choose Test Digital Sound Again or Return to Main Menu and choose 
  50.     Setup Sound Card - Manual.

  52. Setup Sound Card -- Manual
  53. 1.  Select Setup Sound Card -Manual from the menu.
  54. 2.  Choose Change Digital Sound.
  55. 3.  Choose your digital sound card from the list and press <ENTER>
  56. 4.  If you choose Continue with Confirmation, Setup will try to detect 
  57.     your sound card settings.  If confirmation fails, select the sound 
  58.     card again and choose Skip Confirmation.   If the settings are 
  59.     incorrect, you may change the settings by selecting the menu options. 
  60. 5.  Choose Test Digital Sound.  If you hear sound, your setup is correct.  
  61.     If you do not, you must select another card or enter different 
  62.     setup values.
  63. 6.  Choose Return to Main Menu.
  64.  
  65. Install UniVBE driver
  66.     Select this option if you intend to run SVGA mode.  The UniVBE 
  67.     driver may increase frame rate in IndyCar Racing II for certain 
  68.     graphics cards.  UniVBE is not compatible with all graphics card.  
  69.     If UniVBE is not successfully installed or the game locks Uninstall 
  70.     the UniVBE driver.
  71.  
  72. Uninstall UniVBE driver
  73.     Select this option to uninstall the UniVBE driver.  If UniVBE is 
  74.     not successfully installed or the game locks when using UniVBE, 
  75.     you should select this option.  It is not necessary to use UniVBE 
  76.     to run SVGA mode.
  77.  
  78. Make a Bootable Floppy
  79.     Choose Make a Bootable Floppy if you have any difficulties running 
  80.     IndyCar Racing II.  Follow directions on screen to create the 
  81.     bootable floppy.  If you use a bootable floppy to run the game, 
  82.     we highly recommend that you select Complete Installation when 
  83.     installing the game.
  84. 1.  Insert a blank diskette in drive A: (You may not use drive B:).
  85. 2.  Choose Make a Bootable Floppy from the menu and press <ENTER>.
  86. 3.  Follow the on-screen prompts.
  87. 4.  To use the Bootable Floppy disk, you must restart the computer 
  88.     with the disk in the A: drive.
  89.  
  90. View Readme File
  91.     Choose View README File to read important update information.
  92. Exit To DOS
  93.     Choose Exit to DOS to leave the Setup program.
  94. Starting IndyCar Racing II DEMO
  95. 1.  Insert the IndyCar Racing II CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.         
  96.     (Not necessary if you chose the Complete Installation option.)
  97. 2.  From your hard drive, type CD\ICR2DEMO <ENTER> (If you did not accept 
  98.     the default directory when installing, substitute the name of the 
  99.     directory you specified.)
  100. 3.  Type INDYCAR <ENTER> to start VGA mode        - or -
  101.     Type INDYCAR  -H <ENTER> to start SVGA mode.  Be sure to type the 
  102.     space and the dash before the "H".  You must have a VESA driver 
  103.     loaded to run SVGA. See the Troubleshooting section for details.
  104.  
  105. You may also start the demo with the following switches (just like the
  106. "INDYCAR -H <ENTER>" above.
  107.  
  108. -h (runs IndyCar Racing II in high-resolution SVGA graphics)
  109. -f (Use SoundBlaster FM sound)
  110. -j (Use notebook gameport or Genovation)

  113. How to Setup the Controls
  114.  
  115. From the Main Menu, use the keyboard arrow keys to scroll down to the
  116. OPTIONS menu and press <enter>. 
  117. Choose the CONTROLS menu and press <enter>.
  118.  
  119. Choose CALIBRATE JOYSTICK-1, if you were not asked to do so when
  120. you started the game.  Move the joystick forward, backward, left and 
  121. right, release it, then press <ENTER>.
  122.  
  123. Choose SET CONTROLS and press <enter>.  You will notice a list of
  124. functions that can be assigned to your controller.  Highlight an option 
  125. and press <ENTER>.  Assign the control by moving your joystick, pressing 
  126. a joystick button, or pressing a keyboard key.  The menu will return.
  127. Repeat for all controls.
  128.  
  129. The number of functions that you will be able to assign to the joystick 
  130. is limited to the type of controller you are using.  If you are using a 
  131. standard 2-button joystick then we would suggest that you set one of the 
  132. buttons to ACCELERATION and the other button to BRAKING.  The STEERING 
  133. should be assigned to the LEFT/RIGHT or X-AXIS movement on the joystick.  
  134. For REVERSE we suggest simply pulling the joystick back.

  136. Start Racing
  137.  
  138. Once you are in the game and have set up your controls you will most
  139. likely want to start racing.  The demo release contains the SINGLE RACE 
  140. and PRESEASON TESTING modes. You can choose these modes at the main menu.
  141.  
  142. The demo is limited to the ARCADE damage setting and cannot be changed.
  143.  
  144. Spin Recovery: The spin recovery feature is on by default. You can turn
  145. this feature off in the DRIVING AIDS menu.
  146.  
  147. Driving Views:  You can cycle through different views of the car while
  148. driving by pressing the F10 key.
  149.  
  150. Information Boxes : Additional information boxes may be called up by use
  151. of the following function keys:
  152.  
  153. F1     Lap Information - Useful info about position and laps completed.
  154. F2     Standings - up-to-date race standings.
  155. F3     Fuels - Shows current fuel and estimated laps.
  156. F4     Tires - Shows tire temperature.
  157. F5     Tires - This box shows tire pressure and condition.  Space to
  158.        toggle through tires.
  159. F7     Wings - Too much drag at Michigan?  Tell your pit crew to lower
  160.        those wings.
  161. F8     Wheel Stagger - Tell your pit crew how to stagger your tires.
  162. F9     Pit radio - Know what your pit crew is planning at a glance.
  163.  
  164. NOTE: The demo does not allow you to change your settings from the F-key
  165. boxes. This feature is enabled in the full version.
  166.  
  167. Graphics:  Graphics and Textures can be turned on and off by pressing
  168. the 1-9 number keys while driving. These may also be adjusted from the
  169. OPTIONS/GRAPHICS menu.  Turning off graphics will increase your frame 
  170. rate significantly.

  172. Pitting:  Pitting is not enabled in the demo.
  173.  
  174. Troubleshooting:
  175.  
  176. If the highlight on the menu scrolls up or down by itself, you will need 
  177. to calibrate your joystick. At the main menu, press the "J" key to turn 
  178. the joystick off.  Then select OPTIONS/CONTROLS/CALIBRATE JOYSTICK #1.  
  179. Follow instructions above for calibrating.
  180.  
  181. AWE 32: If you are using an AWE 32 you may encounter problems with the
  182. autodetect sound installation.  If this should happen, reboot and use
  183. manual setup.
  184.  
  185. Memory Issues: If you have trouble setting up your sound during install,
  186. use the Create Boot Disk option from the setup menu and boot from that
  187. disk. If you encounter problems creating a boot disk from Windows95,
  188. restart in MS-DOS mode and run the setup again.
  189.  
  190. Graphics Problems: If you are having graphics problems, try installing
  191. the UNIVBE driver from the setup menu. Due to differences in video cards
  192. across systems, you may also attain increased graphics performance by
  193. not installing the UNIVBE driver from your system.   
  194.  
  195. To improve frame rate:
  196. 1.  Run in VGA mode.
  197. 2.  Reduce the number of opponents you race against in the 
  198.     OPTIONS/OPPONENTS menu.
  199. 3.  Reduce the number of opponents seen and heard in the OPTIONS/OPPONENTS    
  200.     menu.
  201. 4.  Turn off graphics options in the OPTIONS/GRAPHICS menu.
  202. 5.  Start the game by typing  INDYCAR -F <enter> to use FM sound.
  203. 6.  Make sure your TURBO button is on (if your computer has one.)

  206. Minimum Requirements:

  208. For VGA version
  209. 486-DX 33MHz
  210. 8 MB of RAM
  211. VGA graphics card and VGA monitor
  212. Recommended: 486-DX2 66MHZ and 8 MB of RAM.

  214. For SVGA version
  215. 486-DX2 66MHz
  216. 8 MB of RAM
  217. SVGA graphics card and SVGA monitor
  218. Recommended:  60MHz  Pentium, 16 MB of RAM, and VLB or PCI video card.
  219. Running with a boot disk or a clean boot is recommended for 486-DX/33
  220. systems with 8 MB of RAM or 486-DX2/66 systems with 8 MB of RAM
  221. running SVGA mode for better frame rate performance.  Memory managers
  222. could hinder overall performance of the game.
