  5. This quick release is to remove the OAK\37VESA.COM and OAK\67VESA.COM
  6. from the self-extract VESA.EXE. These files are reported by F-PROT to
  7. contain a possible virus.

  12. About the Butterfly virus
  13. -------------------------

  15. It is unfortunate that the previous distribution of
  16.  
  17.     TM411-4.ZIP
  18.     GIFLK110.ZIP
  19.     GIFLK111.ZIP
  20.  
  21. contains a self-extracting VESA.EXE. Inside the VESA.EXE,
  22.  
  23.     OAK\37VESA.COM
  24.     OAK\67VESA.COM
  25.  
  26. are infected by a new "Butterfly" virus. If you see any of the ZIP files
  27. in a BBS, please ask the sysop to remove the files immediately. The files
  28. have since been replaced by
  29.  
  30.     TM411-4A.ZIP
  31.     GIFLK112.ZIP
  32.  
  33. The virus is not found to be dangerous. It is based on the Civil War
  34. Virus. It is only infects .COM files increasing length by 302 bytes. The
  35. virus is 307 bytes long. On execution of an infected program the virus
  36. will search for and infect the next .COM file in the directory list.

  38. The virus can be detected by
  39.  
  40.     F-Prot 2.08a in heuristic and quick scan modes
  41.     ThunderByte anti-virus 6.02
  42.     Norton anti-virus 2.1 (21A08def)
  43.     Virex 2.9

  45. ThunderByte and Norton anti-virus can disinflect the files. F-Prot is
  46. working on a removal program. Unforetunately, McAFEE SCAN 106 DOES NOT
  47. detect the virus but McAREE said SCAN 107 will be able to detect it.

  49. To ensure this distribution is virus-free, we scan all the files with
  50. five independent anti-virus softwares, namely

  65. This quick upgrade is to ensure backward compatibility with the
  66. registration procedure. Registered users of GIFLink 1.00 can apply
  67. the registration procedure to GIFLink 1.11. There is a problem in
  68. GIFLink 1.10 which prohibit the registration procedure.

  78. The purpose of this upgrade is to support new features in Telemate,
  79. such as multiple upload and download directories and batch upload and
  80. download status.

  83. What's new in GIFLink
  84. ---------------------

  86. . Multiple upload directories can be defined by adding ';' between the
  87.   directories. If a file is not found in the first directory, Telemate 
  88.   will search the second and so on. If the file name contains wildcard 
  89.   characters, the search will stop when a match is found. For example, 
  90.   if the upload directory is
  91.     C:\TM\UL\;C:\QWK\
  92.   specifying *.* will only upload all the files in C:\TM\UL\.

  94. . Multiple download directories can be defined by adding ';' between
  95.   the directories with the wildcard between '(' and ')'. You can
  96.   specify multiple wildcards for the same directory by adding ','
  97.   between the wildcards. For example, if the download directory is
  98.     C:\TM\DL\;C:\QWK\(*.QW?);C:\PIC\(*.GIF,*.PCX)
  99.   *.QW? files are put into the C:\QWK\ directory, *.GIF and *.PCX 
  100.   are put into the C:\PIC\ directory, and all other files are put 
  101.   into the C:\TM\DL\ directory.
