  26. Outside  a single machine environment, you are not allowed to reproduce only
  27. parts of the package, but you have to copy it completely.

  29. 2. Installation
  30. ---------------
  31. The xvs.library contains all the virus recognition and removal code that was
  32. formerly included in VirusZ.  This step has been taken for one major reason:
  33. VirusZ,  Virus_Checker,  Virus_Executor and all the other antivirus software
  34. can be updated quickly without releasing the whole packages every time a new
  35. virus appears.
  36.  
  37. So simply install the xvs.library from this archive to your LIBS:  drawer to
  38. get 100% protection against the latest viruses.
  39.  
  40. NOTE  #1:   To  detect  ALL  viruses  inside  crunched  and/or linked files,
  41. xvs.library must be used together with the xfdmaster.library (available from
  42. Aminet  or  VHT-Denmark  homepage)!   We  therefore  strongly  recommend the
  43. installation of this library too.

  45. NOTE  #2:  If xvs.library detects that it might have been modified (maybe by
  46. some new virus?), it will inform you with an alert and tell you what to do!

  48. 3. PGP Signatures
  49. -----------------
  50. To be able to check if the library in this archive really came straight from
  51. one  of  the  authors, you can use the public key with the .sig files in the
  52. archive.  If you are not sure or do not trust the included key, then you can
  53. always  request  the  original  straight from one of us (by email) or get it
  54. from the VHT-Denmark homepage.

  56. 4. Some Words to Amiga Programmers
  57. ----------------------------------
  58. As  you  may  have  noticed, I (Georg H÷rmann) don't have enough time at the
  59. moment  to add all the features you desire to my viruskiller VirusZ.  On the
  60. other  hand, there are a lot of talented coders out there who might have the
  61. time  to write a really good viruskiller environment, but don't have all the
  62. viruses  to add them or are not willing to torture themselves with analysing
  63. all those (old) little bastards.
  64.  
  65. That's  the  point  where xvs.library comes in.  With this library you get a
  66. powerful  tool  to  detect  and  eliminate  all sorts of viruses.  Currently
  67. xvs.library offers you the following functions:
  68. a. Detect bootblock viruses and install clean bootblocks instead.
  69. b. Detect manipulated disk sectors and repair them if possible.
  70. c. Detect infected files and repair them if possible.
  71. d. Scan all memory regions for active viruses and remove them if any.
  72.  
  73. All you have to do (and that's still enough, believe me ;-) is to submit the
  74. files,  sectors  or  bootblocks  you want to have tested to xvs.library.  In
  75. other  words:   You design an outstanding GUI with all the features that are
  76. required  nowadays (ARexx, Locale, etc.) and I support you with my antivirus
  77. knowledge of the last 10 years!!
