Welcome to PKZIP for Windows, Version 2.70!
New features available in this release
----------------------------------------
PKZIP 2.70 for Windows 9x/NT 4.0 has many new and useful features.
* Create Self-Extracting Patch Files (Professional Distribution
Licensed version only)
PKZIP for Windows allows you to create self-extracting
patch files. Patch files can be an ideal solution for
distributing software updates. Please refer to the User's
Manual or online help (PKZIPW.HLP) for further information
on creating patch files.
* Email MAPI (i.e. Send To) Support
PKZIP for Windows allows you to Email archive files right
from the main application window.
* Embed Authenticity Verification (AV) Information (Registered and
Distribution Licensed versions only)
You may embed an electronic signature with files stored in
a .ZIP archive and subsequently authenticate those files
upon extraction. PKWARE Authenticity Verification (AV)
information allows you to detect whether a .ZIP file's
integrity has been compromised. The putav.bat file will
configure PKZIP for Windows for Authenticity Verification.
Please refer to the User's Manual for further information
on configuring and using AV.
* Self-Extractors for Several New Platforms (Professional
Distribution Licensed version only)
You may create self-extractors for several new platforms
(e.g. UNIX) with the PKSFXS.DAT file. This file is on the
diskette labeled Additional Self-Extractors. Copy this file
from the diskette and place in the installation directory.
The available self-extractors will appear in the Save As
dialog in the Save as type drop down list. Please refer to
the User's Manual for further information on configuring
and using the pksfxs.dat file.
* Enhanced 32-bit Windows Self-Extractor (Registered and
Distribution Licensed versions only)
PKZIP for Windows includes the ability to create 32-bit
self-extracting (Explorer enabled) Windows archives to run
on Windows 9x and Windows NT.
* Extended configuration options for Windows self-extractors
created with the Registered version of PKZIP for Windows
Self-extracting .ZIP files created with the Registered
version of PKZIP for Windows now feature several
configuration options (e.g. Customizable Title Bar)
previously only available in the Professional Distribution
Licensed version of PKZIP for Windows.
* Improved Self-Extractor Run After Extraction Functionality
(Registered and Distribution Licensed versions only)
This extended functionality allows you to do such things as
run an installation script (i.e. .INF file) after
extraction. Please refer to the User's Manual for detailed
information.
Program Updates from version 2.6x to 2.70
-------------------------------------------
* Certain users reported that it took somewhat longer to open .ZIP
files in PKZIP 2.60 for Windows than in previous versions.
Latest Version fixes logic that may have caused such behavior.
* Fixed problem related to selecting the Overwrite:Never option
when creating/running Windows self-extractors.
* File attributes are now restored with the files upon extraction
from Windows self-extractors.
* Resolved performance issues when compressing files on network
file systems.
* Fixed problem with certain files (Compression Method=Normal)
reporting warning (e.g. '...bad compression block type') or error
messages on extraction.
* Fixed problem on certain NT systems where PKZIP didn't recognize
the first diskette from a spanned set even if there was seemingly
no problems with the diskette itself or the data written on that
diskette.
* PKZIP now properly extracts .TAR.GZ files as well as UUEncoded
.ZIP and .TAR files to the specified temporary extraction
directory.
* Added Help button to the View Preferences dialog.
* Modified the output format of Authenticity Verification warnings
so they are easier to view and/or interpret.
* Fixed problems and added functionality in the Wizard related to
accessing network file systems.
* Fixed incorrect date/version information specified (via Explorer)
in the pkzipw.exe Properties dialog.
