  1. Welcome to Monkey help. This file is browsable by the command `help'.

  3. MiniLinux (= MLinux = Monkey Linux) is small distribution of Linux.
  4. There is still NO SECURITY.
  5.  
  6. You can move this help by using cursor keys, <SPACE>, <b>.
  7. If you press </>, you can type word(s) to search, <n> for next.

  9. Hints:
  10.  
  11. - Linux has got supprot for virtual terminals. You can access them by
  12.   the pressing ALT+Fx, where Fx is a function key from F1 to F7.
  13.  
  14. - To start X Window, type `startx'. X Window is on the 8th console
  15.   (ALT+F8). To leave X and enjoy with the virtual terminals, please,
  16.   press CTRL+ALT+Fx (from F1 to F6). Quick X-shutdown is possible by
  17.   CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE. You can change resolution in X by the
  18.   CTRL+ALT+<GREY +> or <GREY ->. If you want, you may start X with
  19.   another color depth by typing `startx -- -bpp xxx', where xxx is one
  20.   of 8, 16, 32 (8 is default). Be sure, that /etc/XF86Config is correct.
  21.   You may generate a new XF86Config by using `xf86config' command.
  22.   `SuperProbe' may check type of your videocard. Command `xvidtune'
  23.   under X may help you with tunning your videocard.

  25. - X Window requires at least 12MB RAM total memory (include swap).
  26.   Monkey uses M$ Windows swap-file or try make own /SWAP. If you do not
  27.   want to use M$ swap-file, simply create file /etc/nomsswap (by the
  28.   command `touch /etc/nomsswap').

  30. - Many Unix commands are similar to their DOS equivalents:
  31.   cp = copy, rm = del, cat = type, more = more, mkdir = mkdir,
  32.   rmdir = rmdir, cd = cd, mv = move, ls = dir
  33.   BEWARE: in Unix the / is a / and not a \
  34.  
  35. - The equivalents of DOS' AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS are the file
  36.   /etc/inittab and files under directory /etc/rc.d
  37.  
  38. - If you dislike vi (...!!!), you can use joe (Wordstar compatibile
  39.   word processor).
  40.  
  41. - If you have got non-3c59x compatible Ethernet card, modify
  42.   /etc/modules.conf (line with eth0) to load the other module by
  43.   kerneld. Also the recompilation of kernel is possible (packages gccall
  44.   and kern2029). You must set the correct I/O for using ne module for
  45.   NE1000/2000 compatible cards.

  47. - The directory / under Linux is \LINUX directory in your DOS.
  48.   The rest of your DOS drive you can find in the /DOS directory.
