  26. This driver adds DCI support.

  29. DRIVER INSTALLATION PROCEDURE       
  30.

  32.                 ** IMPORTANT **
  33.  
  34. The drivers named "ET6000" in the Windows Setup use the Tseng ET6000 accelerator
  35. features.
  36.  
  37. This driver disk is designed to allow you to select or change the video driver
  38. for Windows 3.1 using the SETUP program on this diskette, OR using Windows
  39. Setup. The SETUP on this diskette is executed from within Windows. Note that
  40. these driver files are in Microsoft compressed format. You can not simply copy
  41. them; you MUST run a SETUP program to install them. Simply copying the files
  42. into your \Windows\System subdirectory WILL NOT work and may corrupt your
  43. Windows installation.
  44.  
  45. Install the Microsoft VGA drivers first, to avoid conflicts with previous
  46. Display drivers:
  47.  
  48. 1) Boot up to the DOS prompt (C:\).
  49.  
  50. 2) Change to the Windows directory (C:\WINDOWS).
  51.  
  52. 3) Type SETUP.
  53.  
  54. 4) Press the up arrow to highlight the Display information, press ENTER.
  55.  
  56. 5) Press the down arrow to highlight VGA, press ENTER.
  57.  
  58. 6) Press ENTER to accept the VGA configuration.
  59.  
  60. 7) Press ENTER to keep your currently installed driver.
  61.  
  62. 8) Type WIN to start Windows in VGA mode.

  66. TO INSTALL ET6000 DRIVERS FROM A FLOPPY DISK:
  67.  
  68. 1) It is good practice to make sure the diskette is write-protected.
  69.  
  70. 2) Insert your Driver Diskette in the appropriate floppy drive.
  71.  
  72. 3) In the program manager, press the ALT key and F to bring up the FILE menu.
  73. Then press R (for RUN) and type (assuming the diskette is in drive A:)
  74.     A:SETUP.
  75. The program will prompt you for any information it needs.

  81. TO INSTALL FROM THE HARD DISK:
  82.  
  83. There is no need to copy the installation diskette to hard disk. The
  84. video utility that is included can switch drivers promptly, using
  85. the information that SETUP will write to the WINDOWS and SYSTEM directories.
  86. However if you do have a copy of these files in a hard disk directory,
  87. you can install as follows:
  88.  
  89. 1) Install the Microsoft VGA drivers as outlined above.
  90.  
  91. 2) In the program manager, press the ALT key and F to bring up the FILE menu.
  92. Then press R (for RUN) and type (assuming the files are in, say, 
  93. D:\video\drivers):
  94.      D:\video\drivers\SETUP.
  95. The program will prompt you for any information it needs.
  96.  
  97. There are 4 Windows 3.1 ET6000 drivers that are installed:
  98. TLIET61.DRV to support 16M color modes
  99. TLIET63.DRV to support 32K color modes
  100. TLIET66.DRV to support 65K color modes
  101. TLIET68.DRV to support 8 bit modes
  102. ------------------------------------------------------

  104. In rare cases, SETUP will be unable to copy some of the installation files
  105. because they are currently in use and cannot be replaced. If this happens,
  106. SETUP will instruct you to exit Windows and rerun the same SETUP program in DOS
  107. to complete the installation.
  108.  
  109. If you are having problems installing these drivers please contact your board
  110. vendor for further assistance (as your vendor may have made some proprietary
  111. enhancements that require custom drivers).
  112.  
  113. Also included are the Tseng HiColor/TrueColor drivers for 32K, 65K and 16Mil.
  114. simultaneous colors. Some boards and monitors will not support some of the
  115. higher resolutions, color depths, or video refresh rates. WHEN YOU SELECT ONE
  116. OF THESE MODES, YOU WILL BE OFFERED A CHANCE TO PREVIEW IT. Select "Preview"
  117. to determine whether you really can select the mode. If you select a video
  118. refresh rate not available on the video board, the next highest available rate
  119. will be selected.

  121. If you select a mode that your monitor cannot support, Windows will start up,
  122. but your screen may be unreadable. If this problem occurs, run the
  123. WINDOWS SETUP program and choose a supported display mode. For example,
  124. assuming your windows directory is on drive C:
  125.  
  126.     c:
  127.     cd \windows
  128.     SETUP
  129.  
  130. and use the arrow keys to change the display.

  134. THE VIDEO DRIVER UTILITY:
  135.  
  136. The SETUP program will install a handy utility program for changing drivers.
  137. The utility enables you to quickly select the mode you want. In addition, you
  138. can select the refresh rate. You can choose whether to install the utility in:
  139. - its own program group
  140. - the control panel
  141. - the STARTUP group.
  142.  
  143.  
  144. Selecting a video "mode" means choosing:
  145.  
  146. - a screen size, such as 800x600
  147. - a color depth, such as 256 colors
  148. - (in some cases) a font size for the program manager's ICONs, either
  149. large or small. When you make this choice, you also tell Windows how many
  150. pixels it should regard as a nominal inch on the screen. If you choose
  151. "large fonts", some displays will be easier to read; if you choose "small
  152. fonts, more information will fit on your screen.
  153. - optionally, you can choose a refresh rate. Some monitors support higher
  154. rates, such as the VESA 72 Hz standard. If your monitor supports higher rates,
  155. you may find that the screen display is more stable and easier to read.

  157. When selecting modes, you should bear in mind that if your monitor cannot
  158. support your choice, the screen may become unreadable altogether.
  159. If this happens, you can back out your choice by running the Microsoft
  160. SETUP program, in the Windows directory, from DOS.
  161.  
  162. If the screen becomes unreadable, you should correct the problem promptly.
  163. In some cases, an incorrect mode can damage a monitor. To recover, reboot
  164. the system, and run the Windows SETUP program from DOS, to select a safe mode.

  167. IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!!!!!!
  168.  
  169. You must have at least 2.5 Meg MDRAM to run 1024x768 (16 million colors)
  170. and you must have at least 3.0 Meg MDRAM to run 1280x1024 (32K or 64K colors)
  171.  
  172. These modes will not work correctly on ET6000's with 2.25 Meg MDRAM or less!!

  177. If you subsequently need to deinstall the drivers, or if you frequently
  178. switch video boards while using Windows, you may wish to consult the
  179. Deinstall HELP provided by this SETUP program.

  181. If you install another manufacturer's video board, and subsequently reinsert
  182. this board, you should rerun this SETUP to make sure the correct files are
  183. installed again.
