  26. A) Notes and knows problems
  27.  
  28.    Please also read the notes in Appendix B - Troubleshooting in the Hardware 
  29.    User manual.

  32.    Installation of the Windows 3.1x driver
  33.  
  34.    Important! 
  35.    Different to the manual the Intel ICU Plug & Play Utility is NOT delivered 
  36.    with the SPEA MEDIA XTC. The configuration and installation of the 
  37.    soundboard can now be executed under DOS / Windows 3.1x also without Plug & 
  38.    Play functionality (without ICU Utility and without Plug & Play BIOS in the 
  39.    system).
  40.    In this case, the configuration of the I/O addresses, Interrupts and DMA 
  41.    channels can be done by the SSINIT utility, which you can find in the 
  42.    installation directory (in general C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC).
  43.    Start SSINIT under DOS without any parameter. Select the Option `Advanced'. 
  44.    In the following you can change the settings of the board in the menu 
  45.    option `Hardware'. 
  46.    If you have installed a mouse driver under DOS, you can comfortably make 
  47.    the selections with the mouse.
  48.    If you don't want to make the hardware settings on your own, you should 
  49.    install the Intel ICU Plug & Play Utility on your system before you install 
  50.    the board. The program can be obtained by your local dealer. The 
  51.    configuration of the SPEA MEDIA XTC then will be executed automatically by 
  52.    this program.

  54.    Please note, that without an installed Plug & Play fuctionality the SPEA 
  55.    MEDIA XTC will be set to the default values I/O=330, DMA=1, IRQ=9 and 
  56.    IRQ=5. Perhaps conflicts with other system components may occur with these 
  57.    settings.
  58.  
  59.    Q: After the SPEA MEDIA XTC Windows 3.1x driver installation the system 
  60.       reboots. During the booting process the system crashes while executing 
  61.       the program SSINIT.
  62.    A: You have installed your SPEA MEDIA XTC without having installed a Plug & 
  63.       Play Utility on your system and with the default I/O addresses, DMA 
  64.       channel or Interrputs conflicts occur between the SPEA MEDIA XTC and 
  65.       other system components. 
  66.       Boot your system without starting SSINIT (e.g. with a DOS boot disk or 
  67.       by pressing the F8 key while booting and confirming each executable 
  68.       command separately).
  69.       Change to the installation directory (in general C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC). 
  70.       Start SSINIT without any parameter and select the option `Advanced'. Now 
  71.       you can configure the settings of the soundboard in the `Hardware' menu. 
  72.       May be that you have to enter the following commands before you start 
  73.       SSINIT:
  74.     SET BLASTER=A220 1xx Dx T1
  75.     SET SNDSCAPE=C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC
  76.       Alternatively you can edit the file SNDSCAPE.INI directly:
  77.       Open the file SNDSCAPE.INI -which you will find in the installation 
  78.       directory - with an editor (e.g. the DOS-Editor EDIT) and change the 
  79.       parameter values of IRQ, SBIRQ and DMA corresponding to your 
  80.       requirements. For possible values for Interrupts and DMA channels please 
  81.       refer to the SPEA MEDIA XTC hardware manual in Appendix C - Technical 
  82.       Data.

  84.    Q: Different to the manual the installation doesn't offer the option for a 
  85.       volume level control to be installed in the AutoStart group. The Level 
  86.       Control Utility will not be installed. 
  87.    A: Different to the description in the manual in Part 2 - Installing the 
  88.       SPEA MEDIA XTC, the Level Control Utility is not supplied and installed 
  89.       with the soundboard, as there are compatibility problems with Windows 
  90.       95.

  92.    Q: The diagnostic Utility S2KSTAT - described in the manual in Part 3 - 
  93.       Configuration of the SPEA MEDIA XTC is not executable. It terminates 
  94.       with an error message. 
  95.    A: To get use of the diagnostic Utility S2KSTAT you have to add the 
  96.       following line to the file SNDSCAPE.INI. 
  97.     CodeFile=SNDSCAPE.C03
  98.       Now you can use the program.
  99.  
  100.    Q: The SPEA MEDIA XTC can not be installed under Windows 95 as described. 
  101.       Either the board cannot be detected by the system or the driver tells 
  102.       (in the Windows 95 device manager) that actually there are no conflicts 
  103.       but that the board is not ready for use or that the driver installation 
  104.       is incomplete. 
  105.    A: In such a case the Plug & Play functionality under Windows 95 is 
  106.       seriously disrupted. This most likely occurs with an elder or a 
  107.       defective System BIOS. Contact your local dealer or the motherboard 
  108.       manufacturer and ask for a System BIOS update.
  109.  
  110.    Q: Windows 95 or the SPEA MEDIA XTC Windows 95 driver reports a conflict 
  111.       between the SPEA MEDIA XTC and another installed device.
  112.    A: Eventually Windows 95 has not recognized the Ensoniq Soundscape chip set 
  113.       of the SPEA MEDIA XTC due to an error with the Plug & Play functionality 
  114.       and therefore installs the Soundboard as an unknown device. Remove the 
  115.       unnknown devices and the SPEA MEDIA XTC entries with the device manager 
  116.       of Windows 95. Restart Windows 95 and follow the instructions of Windows 
  117.       95, in case that it requires driver disks.
  118.  
  119.    Q: After a -as it seems- successful installation of the SPEA MEDIA XTC 
  120.       Windows 95 driver the network card, the mouse or another device does not 
  121.       work propely any more.
  122.    A: These problems can have several reasons:
  123.       - An elder Plug & Play BIOS or one that is incompatible to Windows 95 
  124.     can cause the described effect. After you update the BIOS, the problem 
  125.     should be solved.
  126.       - If your BIOS offers the possibility to mark IRQs as reserved, it may 
  127.     be necessary that you mark the IRQs as reserved that are reserved by 
  128.     ISA boards without Plug & Play functionality.
  129.       - May be that conflicts between different devices already occured before 
  130.     the Installation of the SPEA MEDIA XTC. The devices could have worked 
  131.     properly without any errors before, though the error has already been 
  132.     existing. In the device manager check, if there are conflicts between 
  133.     other devices and change the configuration of these devices.

  135.    Q: After a - as it seems - successful installation of the SPEA MEDIA XTC 
  136.       Windows 95 driver the SPEA MEDIA XTC doen not work.

  149.       - In some cases it can be necessary to reconfigure the SPEA MEDIA XTC, 
  150.     to select another Interrupt or DMA channel, though obvioulsy no 
  151.     problem occurs. It may be that other components or their drivers 
  152.     cause errors on Interrupts or DMA channels they actually don't 
  153.     reserve. It may also be that a motherboard has problems with some 
  154.     certain interrupts or DMA channels if a board is installed in an 
  155.     expansion slot.

  159. B) Corrections to the manual
  160.  
  161.    P.  9  Installation via a Plug & Play System or Utility (ICU):
  162.       If you don't have a Plug & Play Utility (e.g. Intel's ICU) or Plug & 
  163.       Play BIOS in your system, then you can also configure your SPEA 
  164.       MEDIA XTC with the SSINIT Utility (without Plug & Play 
  165.       functionality). Though it is adviced to purchase a Plug & Play 
  166.       Utility at your local dealer or motherboard manufacturer.

  168.    P. 11  Internal Audio Connectors / Mitsumi CD (J5):
  169.       Different to the description and the illustration on page 10 the 
  170.       Audio Connector J5 for a Mitsumi CD is not available on the SPEA 
  171.       MEDIA XTC.

  173.    P. 13  Installation of the Software for DOS / Windows 3.1:
  174.       For compatibility reasons (with Windows 95) the Level Control 
  175.       Utility described under item 6 is no longer part of the delivery 
  176.       scope. This means also that there is no possibility for setting up 
  177.       the Volume Level control in the Autostart group of Windows.

  179.    P. 14  Standard Modifications AUTOEXEC.BAT
  180.       The 2nd line which will be added to the AUTOEXEC.BAT now is:
  181.         SET SNDSCAPE=<directory> 
  182.       The 3rd line is:

  185.    P. 18  Description of the Options for the Hardware Settings:
  186.       The options of the Hardware Settings are only available for SSINIT, 
  187.       if the SPEA MEDIA XTC is configured without Plug & Play 
  188.       functionality, that means that Intel's ICU is not installed.

  194.    The SPEA MEDIA XTC is supplied with drivers for Windows 3.1x as well as 
  195.    drivers for Windows 95. Please use the drivers that fit to your operating 
  196.    system. The drivers are available on the supplied disk or on the Media 
  197.    Gallery CD Edition Nr. 12/95 upwards.

  199.    The supplied applications Super JAM! Jr. and Recording Session Plus can be 
  200.    used under Windows 3.1x and under Windows 95.

  204. D) Notes to Super JAM! JR. from the Blue Ribbon Soundworks
  205.  
  206.    The Program SuperJAM! Jr. from The Blue Ribbon Soundworks is a powerful 
  207.    program which makes it very easy to compose.

  209.    When you have successfully installed your Software you can get aware of the 
  210.    program very easy with the available online help.

  212.    Installation of the Software:
  213.    1. Insert the Super JAM! Jr. Installation disk in the corresponding disk 
  214.       drive. 
  215.    2. Start Windows (if not already done)
  216.    3. Start the Software installation from the Program Manager with the 
  217.       following call:
  218.     `File' `Run' A:\SETUP.EXE
  219.    4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

  221.    The program is copied onto your hard disk.
