  33. 1.1  BigFocus 13/Win General Information

  35. Welcome to BigFocus 13/Win, SPEA's acceleration driver for
  36. AutoCAD 13 for Windows and Windows NT! This software is simple to use and 
  37. offers a number of attractive features:
  38.  
  39. - performance boost up to factor 10 of the standard AutoCAD display
  40.   drivers
  41.  
  42. - a new SPEA Toolbar which contains the main features of the driver:

  45.   + Zoom All function
  46.   + Spyglass Lense
  47.   + Redraw function
  48.   + Zoom Window function

  58. Note that the driver does not contain any 3D functionality. This 
  59. can be purchased with the 3D-World package (which contains '3D-Win', a
  60. hardware-independant 3D-Viewer for Windows).

  63. 1.2 System Requirements
  64. -----------------------

  66. (a) Boards
  67. The BigFocus 13/Win driver is hardware independant - it can therefore be
  68. used with any Windows accelerator! It is also optimized for use with
  69. graphics boards which incorporate an S3 or Weitek P9100 graphics
  70. processor.

  72. (b) PC + Memory
  73. To use AutoCAD and BigFocus effectively you will need a large amount of
  74. memory and a large Windows swap file. Special information on this topic
  75. is described in the AutoCAD 13 for Windows documentation and in the
  76. corresponding Autodesk forum in CompuServe.

  78. (c) Windows
  79. The current version of this software is for Windows 3.1x, Windows for 
  80. Workgroups  and Windows NT 3.5 only.

  82. 1.3  Software Registration
  83. --------------------------

  85. This software need not be registered for use with one of the following
  86. SPEA graphic boards: V7-MERCURY series board, FIRE, HiLite and FGA860GX
  87. and V7-STORM PRO.
  88.  
  89. It can also be used with other SPEA boards and any other Windows accelerator 
  90. (independant of the manufacturer) AFTER REGISTRATION and entering the
  91. registration code key.
  92.  
  93. Registration information is automatically shown on the screen. It fills out
  94. the enclosed form REGISTER.TXT which can then be used to register the
  95. software (please refer to that file for details).

  99. 2.  Installation and Configuration
  100. ==================================

  102. a) Installation from floppy disk
  103. --------------------------------
  104.  
  105.   1. Start Windows and the Program Manager.
  106.  
  107.   2. Select the menu items 'File' and then 'Run'.
  108.  
  109.   3. Select A:\SETUP.EXE.
  110.  
  111.   4. Click on 'OK' and follow the instructions on the screen. The 
  112.      installation routine will decompress and copy various files onto your 
  113.      harddisk.
  114.  
  115. b) Installation from CD ROM
  116. ---------------------------
  117.  
  118.   1. Run the program SPEAINST from the CD ROM
  119.  
  120.   2. Select 'SPEA Software Products'
  121.  
  122.   4. Follow the instructions on the screen. The installation routine will
  123.      decompress and copy various files onto your harddisk.

  126. Configuration

  129.      An important file will also be created on your hard disk:
  130.      DSBIGFOC.INI.
  131.  
  132.      DSBIGFOC.INI contains an important entry that you may need to change
  133.      to accomodate for your hardware (see 'GDIByPass' below).

  135.      Reconfiguring AutoCAD for Windows to use BigFocus 13/Win:
  136.      Start ACADWIN, Select "Options", "Configure", and when selecting the
  137.      display driver choose:

  146. 3.1  GDIByPass
  147. --------------
  148.  
  149. During the software installation a file named DSBIGFOC.INI is created in
  150. the directory you enter when installing. It contains the following section: 
  151.  
  152.   [display device]
  153.   GDIByPass=3
  154.  
  155. This entry controls both the operating mode of the BigFocus 13/Win
  156. software and hardware accesses to the graphics board installed. It is
  157. vital to the speed of the driver's operation. The Windows GDI (Graphics 
  158. Device Interface) is a standardized but generally slower software solution. 
  159. The GDIByPass entry controls whether BigFocus 13/Win uses the GDI or not.

  161. Explanation of GDIByPass values:
  162.  
  163.            Windows GDI Bypass:    Hardware access:
  164.            ---------------------------------------

  166. GDIByPass=3    ON                     ON              (default)
  167.  
  168. GDIByPass=0    OFF                    OFF
  169.  
  170. The default setting is GDIByPass=3 because this is the fastest operating
  171. mode. If you should experience problems with BigFocus 13/Win then
  172. change the entry in DSBIGFOC.INI to GDIByPass=0 to eliminate these (see
  173. also BigFocus 13/Win online help 'Troubleshooting' for more detailed 
  174. information).

  177. 4    Troubleshooting
  178. ====================
  179.  
  180. Problem:
  181. Boot problems, Windows General Protection Fault report (system crash)
  182. after installation.
  183.  
  184. Solution:
  185. Edit the file DSBIGFOC.INI in the BigFocus 13/Win installation target 
  186. directory. It contains the following section by default:
  187.  
  188. [display device]
  189. GDIBypass=3
  190.  
  191. Change the value for GDIByPass to 0.
  192.  
  193.  
  194. Problem:
  195. During the AutoCAD configuration the option 'SPEA BigFocus - Accelerated 
  196. Display Driver - by SPEA AG' doesn't appear, the SPEA Toolbar doesn't appear.
  197.  
  198. Solution:
  199. Check the file DSBIGFOC.INI in your BigFocus 13/Win installation target 
  200. directory. It should contain the following section (example):
  201.  
  202. [environment]
  203. GDC=c:\spea\bf13win
  204.  
  205. whereby the path (C:\SPEA\BF13WIN in this example) must correspond to your 
  206. installation target directory. Alter or add the entries if necessary.

  208. Also check your ACAD.INI file. It must contain the following section (example):

  213. ACAD=c:\acadr13\win;.....;C:\SPEA\BF13WIN

  217. whereby the SPEA path (C:\SPEA\BF13WIN in this example) should correspond to 
  218. the target directory you entered during the software installation. Change or 
  219. add the entry if necessary.
