  14.   The following table lists the ASPI(Advanced SCSI Programming Interface)
  15.   managers available with this PC card.
  16.  
  17.   (1) ASPIFMGR.SYS
  18.     For when your computer has both Card Service and Socket Service.
  19.  
  20.   (2) ASPIFDBK.SYS
  21.     For when your computer has only Databook CardTalk.
  22.  
  23.   (3) ASPIF365.SYS
  24.     For when your computer has neither Card Service nor Socket Service.
  25.     This Driver directly controls the PCMCIA controller chip(Intel i82365
  26.     100% compatible LSI).

  29. 1-1. Command Line Options
  30.  
  31.     DEVICE = <path>\ASPIFMGR.SYS [/PORT=<I/O base address>]

  40.        /PORT=XXX
  41.          Since the I/O port is needed for the PC card, add this line and
  42.          specify the base address at XXX using a hexadecimal number.  The
  43.          PC card occupies 16 bytes of space starting with the specified
  44.          base address.  If you don't specify the I/O base address, 240h
  45.          is applied(in case the ASPIFDBK.SYS : 300h).  If the specified
  46.          address is already being used, specify another base address
  47.          from the following addresses.  Also, depending on the computer,
  48.          the I/O port may need to be specified in the Card Manager
  49.          (ASPIFMGR.SYS, ASPIFDBK.SYS).  Refer to your computer manual.

  52.              (220, 230, 240 and 250h are not available in ASPIFDBK.SYS)

  54.        /SOCKET=X
  55.          When you are using a personal computer with more than two PC
  56.          card slots, add this line and specify the slot at X meaning the
  57.          slot you will insert the PC card in.  If you specify 0 or you
  58.          don't specify the slot, the installation program searches all
  59.          slots, and uses the first slot available.
  60.  
  61.  
  62.       Option effective with ASPIFMGR.SYS only
  63.  
  64.        /INT=X
  65.          This option sets the IRQ level of the PC card using a hexadecimal
  66.          number.  The valid numbers are 3, 5, 7, 9, A, B and F.  The
  67.          ASPIFMGR.SYS itself does not need interruption request, although
  68.          some kinds of Card Services need this option to assign the IRQ
  69.          level used in the Card Configuration process. (Compaq contura
  70.          aero 4/33c : proved at present)
  71.          Make sure this number does not conflict with another device.
  72.          The IRQ level is not set without this option.
  73.          If you're using the SystemSoft Card Service, choose a number from
  74.          the "IRQ=" entries in the CSALLOC.INI file.
  75.  
  76.        /BOFF
  77.          Setting this option turns off the beep sound that is generated
  78.          when inserting or removing the PC card.
  79.  
  80.  
  81.       Option effective with ASPIFDBK.SYS and ASPIF365.SYS only
  82.  
  83.        /MEM=XXXX
  84.          Add this line and specify the memory space's base address to read
  85.          the card information by the segment address (hexadecimal number).
  86.          You need to exclude this specified address a in the EMS "X"
  87.          option so that it will not overlap the region of EMS.  If you
  88.          don't specify the base address, CE00 is applied, and 8 KB of
  89.          memory from CE000h to CFFFFh is used.

  127.            a program is supplied with this player that will operate your
  128.            CD-ROM.

  130.          * Confirm the description in the CONFIG.SYS.
  131.            Check the CONFIG.SYS to make sure that the ASPIFMGR.SYS is
  132.            located after the Card Service.  If not, please edit.

  195.          * Edit the CONFIG.SYS to specify the "X" option of EMM386.EXE
  196.            (EMS driver).  Without the "X" option or "/MEM=" option of the
  197.            ASPIFDBK.SYS file, there is a possibility of overlap between
  198.            the memory from CE000h to CFFFFh and the region of EMS or ROM.

  271.          This option assigns a driver name to this CD-ROM drive.
  272.          The driver name is the identification string to "/d:" option
  273.          of MSCDEX.EXE.  The internal name of KMECD.SYS is PCMCIACD.

  301.          1. Hardware trouble such as improper connection between the
  302.             player and your computer (-> Solution 1).

  304.          2. Software trouble such as improper running of the ASPI Manager
  305.             (-> Solution 2).
  306.  
  307.          3. Card Services and Socket Service that are not supported are being
  308.             used (-> Solution 3).
  309.  
  310.        Solution:
  311.          1. Check whether the player is connected properly and if the
  312.             power is turned on or not.
  313.             Confirm that the SCSI ID is set properly.
  314.  
  315.          2. Reinstall the software.
  316.  
  317.          3. If the message still appears, copy ASPIF365.SYS from your setup
  318.             disk to your hard disk (copy A:ASPIF365.SYS C:\CDRM).
  319.             Edit your CONFIG.SYS file (refer to your DOS manual) from
  320.             DEVICE=C:\CDRM\ASPIFMGR.SYS to DEVICE=C:\CDRM\ASPIF365.SYS.

  337.     MSCDEX.EXE (Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions) enables your computer to
  338.     assign a logical drive number to your CD-ROM drive.

  340. 3-1. Command Line Options

  342.     <path>\MSCDEX.EXE /D:[DriverName] /L:[DriveLetter]
  343.  
  344.        /D:[DriverName]
  345.          The driver name is a required parameter to communicate with the
  346.          CD-ROM drive.  The internal name of KMECD.SYS is PCMCIACD, and
  347.          should be substituted for [DriverName].
  348.  
  349.        /L:[DriveLetter]
  350.          The drive letter is an alphabetic character assigned to a CD-ROM
  351.          drive.  If there is more than one CD-ROM drive, the alphabetic
  352.          characters are sequentially assigned starting with the entered
  353.          drive letter.  If no drive letter is entered, the next available
  354.          alphabetic character is assigned.

  380.          1. Edit the CONFIG.SYS to
  381.              DEVICE=C:\CDRM\KMECD.SYS /D:PCMCIACD
  382.             (refer to your DOS manual for instructions on how to edit).
  383.          2. Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT to
  384.              C:\CDRM\MSCDEX.EXE /D:PCMCIACD
  385.          3. Restart your computer.

  435.     This section gives instructions about putting the device drivers
  436.     (Card manager, ASPI manager, CD-ROM device driver) into your
  437.     CONFIG.SYS file.
  438.  
  439.     Each driver must be in the CONFIG.SYS file in the following order.
  440.

  449.     (1) Expanded Memory Manager (EMM386.EXE)
  450.       It is necessary to set up the memory manager (EMM386.EXE) so that
  451.       it does not occupy the memory space used for the CIS(Card
  452.       Information Structure).
  453.  
  454.     (2) Card Manager (Card Service / CardTalk)
  455.       Both the ASPIFMGR.SYS and the ASPIFDBK.SYS controls the PC cards
  456.       through card managers.  Therefore, the DOS system requires that the
  457.       card manager be installed.  Usually, the card manager is supplied
  458.       through your PC vendor.
  459.  
  460.     (3) ASPI Manager
  461.       The ASPI manager should be installed with the kind of card managers
  462.       that fit it.  An installation program (supplied on the setup disk)
  463.       selects a suitable ASPI manager and installs it automatically.
  464.  
  465.     (4) CD-ROM Device Driver  KMECD.SYS
  466.       The installation program on the setup disk automatically installs
  467.       the CD-ROM device driver after the ASPI manager.
  468.  
  469.     (5) LASTDRIVE
  470.       Through the Lastdrive command, the final valid drive letter is set.
  471.       The installation program on the setup disk sets this line after the
  472.       CD-ROM device driver.
