  23. 1.0 INSTALLING THE WINDOWS NT DRIVER
  24. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  25.  Before installing the driver it is recommended that you backup your driver
  26.  disk. 
  27.  Example:  diskcopy a: a: 
  28.  
  29. * NOTE: If you have downloaded the driver from the Number Nine BBS or other Site, 
  30.         the driver should be unpacked and copied to a floppy disk to be installed.
  31.         In some instances installing the driver from the hard drive does not work 
  32.         correctly.

  34.  Steps for installing the Windows NT driver
  35. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  36.  
  37.  1. Bootup Windows NT in VGA.
  38.  
  39.  2. Within the Main folder double click or enter on Control Panel.
  40.  
  41.  3. Double click on the Display Icon.
  42.  
  43.  4. Single click or Alt-C on "Change Display Driver" button.
  44.  
  45.  5. Single click on the "Change" button adapter.
  46.  
  47.  6. Single click the "Other" button.
  48.  
  49.  7. It will prompt you for a manufacturer's installation disk in drive a:, 
  50.     put the Windows NT Driver disk into the a: drive, and press the 
  51.     "enter" key.
  52.  
  53.  8. The System may give you a message that the driver is a Down-level driver. 
  54.     Disregard the statement and hit the Enter key.
  55.  
  56.  9. Scroll to the bottom of the list and select the S3 compatible Graphics 
  57.     adapter, then single click the "Install" button. CAUTION: There are two
  58.     entries for the "S3 Compatible Graphics Adapter", DO NOT SELECT THE FIRST
  59.     ENTRY YOU COME TO, GO ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST.
  60.   
  61.  10. A message box will come up and ask, This operation will change your 
  62.      system configuration. Do you want to proceed anyway? Click on the "yes"
  63.      Button.
  64.  
  65.  11. A window will come up about selecting the "current" or "new" driver, select
  66.      the "new" button.
  67.  
  68.  12. Windows NT setup will prompt you for the path, enter A:\. Now click on  
  69.      the "continue" button.
  70.  
  71.  13. A message box will tell you that the drivers were successfully installed.
  72.      Single click on the "OK" button.
  73.  
  74.  14. A message box will tell you that your display setting have changed. 
  75.      Single click the "Restart now" button.
  76.  
  77.  15. Once in Windows NT repeat steps 2 and 3.
  78.  
  79.  16. Select the desired resolution, color depth and refresh rate, * NOTE * THE 
  80.      RESOLUTION AND REFRESH RATE THAT YOU CHOOSE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR 
  81.      MONITOR, DAMAGE MAY OCCUR IF YOU GO BEYOND THE LIMITS OF YOUR MONITOR.

  150. 3.0 Known Limitations:

  152. There are no known driver defects at this time.
  153.  
  154.     This driver has been tested with Windows NT 3.5 Final Release build 807.
  155.     Please notify Number Nine Visual Technology of any problems you encounter
  156.     with this driver.
  157.  
  158.     The following system problems, application problems or driver limitations 
  159.     have been observed during testing with Release 807.
  160.  
  161. 1.  Windows NT with Large Fonts at 640x480 resolutions.  The Large Font option 
  162.     at 640 resolutions results in dialog boxes that are larger than the screen 
  163.     and may be difficult to use.  WORKAROUND:  Avoid selecting Large Fonts for 
  164.     any 640 resolution.
  165.  
  166. 2.  Animated cursor fails as Default Refresh with resolution of 1280x1024x256 
  167.     colors with some boards with customer bios.  Customer Bios or board default 
  168.     may be set to Interlaced mode which is not supported by the driver.  
  169.     WORKAROUND:  
  170.     Disable the animated cursor.
  171.  
  172. 3.  Windows NT 3.5 with Corel Draw Photo-Paint 5.0:  A mask outline may 
  173.     display diagonal lines instead of vertical lines.  This is an application 
  174.     problem.
  175.  
  176. 4.  Windows NT 3.5 with File Manager:  Extra vertical outlines may appear when 
  177.     scrolling to right in file list.  Extra black bars may appear on left side 
  178.     or in bottom scroll bar when resizing the window.  This problem also 
  179.     occurs with the VGA driver and appears to be an application problem.
  180.  
  181. 5.  Windows NT 3.5 with Marquee Screen Saver:  When a message in a large font 
  182.     is used at a slow speed, the text appears to blink or cycles from light 
  183.     to dark.
  184.  
  185. 6.  Windows NT 3.5 Display Applet Test Screen:  Resolution size is listed as 
  186.     1152x900 instead of 1152x864.
  187.  
  188. 7.  Windows NT 3.5 with Paintbrush:  Double clicking on Color Erase tool may 
  189.     not erase selected object.
  190.  
  191. 8.  Windows NT 3.5 with DOS Prompt:  Black line appears after returning from 
  192.     DOS Editor when using a color background and the edit command was entered 
  193.     from the lowest line of the screen or window.

  253. Even though you may have just received your Number Nine software, 
  254. newer versions may be available. Free upgrades are provided to 
  255. all Number Nine customers on the Number Nine Bulletin Board 
  256. System (BBS).

  258. To see if you have the latest version, compare the version number
  259. of your software (on the label of the provided diskette) with the version 
  260. number of the corresponding software on the BBS.

  280. The BBS has a separate file area for each Number Nine product.  
  281. The latest driver updates can be found in each product's file 
  282. area, and files of general interest (shareware, etc.) can be 
  283. found in the General library.  An E-mail system is available 
  284. for technical questions about Number Nine products or about 
  285. the BBS in general.  A complete listing of available files can 
  286. be downloaded by invoking the "Download List of Files" command 
  287. from any file library menu.

  289. On the US BBS, RIP graphics are supported, and a RIP compatible 
  290. terminal program is available in the General library (RIPTM154.ZIP).

  292. Many files are self-extracting, but some files will require the 
  293. latest version of PKUNZIP to decompress.  PKUNZIP is available 
  294. in the General library (filename PKZ204G.EXE), and can also be 
  295. found on most on-line services such as Compuserve and America 
  296. Online.
