This text file describes features of the drivers.
There are also instructions for installing the drivers onto
your harddisk.

This section contains information that you will need to:
o Install the Shuttle drivers from a diskette drive
o Update your CONFIG.SYS file
INSTALLING SHUTTLE'S DRIVERS (FROM A DISKETTE DRIVE)

STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE FOR INSTALLATION OF THE DRIVERS

To install the drivers, follow these steps:
1. Insert the distribution disk into a diskette drive (in this
example the A drive is used).
2. Type the following on the OS/2 command line:
A:\INSTALL
3. Press Enter.
4. Follow the on-screen prompts
o To begin with the installer displays a series of bitmaps
o Next an information window pops up:
At this point you can choose either to CONTINUE with the installation
or to CANCEL the installation, by selecting the appropriate buttons.
o Choosing CONTINUE in the previous step leads to one of the following:
(a) A confirmation menu for the updation of the CONFIG.SYS (See Note1)
(This happens when you are installing the drivers for the first time)
Check the box near the Update CONFIG.SYS menu (default) to
automatically update your CONFIG.SYS.
Remove the check from the box near the Update CONFIG.SYS menu to
manually update your CONFIG.SYS. This can be done using the Tab and
Space keys or by simply clicking your mouse in the box.
or (b) A Delete/Update query menu
(This happens if you are reinstalling)
Choose the components (if any) to be deleted.
Choose the Delete button to delete the selected components.
Note: Deletion does not remove the entries made in the CONFIG.SYS file.
o Choosing CONTINUE in the previous step (a) leads to an Install Query menu.
Choose the components to be installed.
To edit the default destination path, use the Tab keys or simply click in the area.
After editing the default path, Press Enter.
Note: We recommend to specify the OS/2 system path.
OS/2 takes the drivers from \OS2 directroy or from the root directory (where OS/2 is installed).
Choose the Install button to Install the selected components.
o A status box then pops up to indicate the status of the installation.
o Finally a message box appears indicating the status of the installation.
Simply press Enter to clear the message.
5. Close the application (Alt+F4) to take you back to the OS/2 desktop.
Note1: UPDATING CONFIG.SYS FILE
__________________________________
The installer by default does the updation of CONFIG.SYS,
however, the default can be overruled, enabling manual
updation of CONFIG.SYS file.
On the first installation the required lines are appended to the
end of the CONFIG.SYS file. In case of re-installing or if
the CONFIG.SYS already had the required entries, the installer,
however, retains those lines and no new entries are made.
6. From within the OS/2 desktop:
o Open the 'OS/2 System' folder.
o Open the 'System Setup' folder.
(in the OS/2 System folder)
o Open the 'Selective Install' application.
(in the System Setup folder)
o Enable the 'CD-ROM Support' option and choose 'OK'.
o Look for the CD-ROM device connected to your system
in the given list of CD-ROM devices.
If the device is present in the list choose it, if not
choose the 'OTHERS' option and choose 'OK'.
o The Installer queries for the Source and Destination
paths of the required files.
o The Installer then prompts for the Insertion of
Installation Diskettes in the source drive.
The Installer updates the system's CONFIG.SYS and
now the CD-ROM device can be accessed from OS/2 Window,
OS/2 Full Screen etc., just like any other drive.

1. /Rx - x=0 Nibble Fast
x=1 Nibble Normal
x=2 Nibble Slow
x=3 Uni Fast

x=8 PS/2 Fast.
x=9 PS/2 Slow

2. /Wx - x=0 Write Fast
x=1 Write Normal
x=2 Write Slow
x=3 EPP Normal
x=4 EPP Fast
3. '/Zx'
The default EPP wait state programmed by the ADD Driver is 2.
To change the wait state, give the appropriate value in '/Zx'.
For example, to program the EPP Shuttle to zero wait, use '/Z0'.
Valid range of x : 0 to 9.
4. '/de'
Disables the EPP automatic detection during the initialization
of the Driver.
5. '/da'
Disables auto-detection. With no command line options, the
driver defaults to 'Nibble Slow' and 'Write Slow' modes.
6. '/dp' - Disables PS/2 DMA arbitration.
7. '/fe' - Force EPP mode
8. '/fp' - Force PS/2
9. '/fb' - Enables Bi-directional capability in some EISA chipset machines.
SHUTTLE'S PARALLEL PORT DEVICES AND DRIVERS

Overview
--------
Shuttle's Parallel-port adapters provide interface between the
parallel port of the PC to either the SCSI or the IDE devices,
apart from providing a pass-thru parallel-port on the adapter.
The available adapters are:
o EPSA (Enhanced Parallel-Port to SCSI Adapter)
o EPIA (Enhanced Parallel-Port to IDE Adapter)
These adapters can be connected to machines based on different
Operating Systems, provided the appropriate drivers are installed
on the system.

The EPSA-II Parallel-Port-to-SCSI protocol chip provides a
means of generating a full-blown SCSI port, as well as
"regenerating" the printer port, from the Parallel-Port signals of
a PC, allowing the connection of upto 8 SCSI devices to any
Parallel-Port (ECP/EPP/SPP) in addition to a printer.
The EPIA Parallel-Port-to-IDE protocol chip provides a means of
generating a full-blown IDE port, as well as "regenerating" the
printer port, from the Parallel-Port signals of a PC, allowing the
connection of upto 2 IDE devices to any Parallel-Port (EPP/SPP)
in addition to a printer.

MASTER DRIVE - One of the two possible IDE drives which can
control another drive (slave drive).
NIBBLE-MODE - The slower modes of data transfer across the
Parallel-Port.
PS/2-MODE - The Bi-Directional mode of data transfer
across the Parallel-Port.
SHUTTLE - Generally refers to Shuttle Technology
Parallel-Port Adapters and here to EPIA.
SLAVE DRIVE - One of the two possible IDE drives which can
be controlled by a master drive.
UNI-MODE - The Unidirectional mode of data transfer across
the Parallel-Port.
