  10. Important hint for DC30 and PCTV users:
  11. =======================================
  12. The recent introduction of Microsoft┤s DirectX technology has made it
  13. possible to use the free memory of a graphics board for an overlay by
  14. transferring the video data directly via the PCI bus. In addition, 
  15. DirectX introduces many new functions which are especially suited for 
  16. computer games.
  17.  
  18. New technologies, however, may also lead to problems. On some earlier
  19. systems the combination of DirectX-3, the optimized miro drivers, and 
  20. the DC30 board may cause trouble.
  21. For this reason, miro has decided to offer two driver concepts: 
  22. the optimized ones and drivers which have been especially designed for 
  23. Digital Video applications.
  24. For this reason digital Video users (DC20, DC30, PCTV) will find a 
  25. special Digital Video driver version in the \Disksets\DVEDRV\ directory
  26. on the installation CD.

  60. Important information on use with Windows 95:
  61. =============================================

  63. miroCRYSTAL 3D is a highly integrated state-of-the-art graphics adapter which
  64. includes
  65. a 3D Engine. This product offers its full functionality in combination with 
  66. Microsoft┤s "DirectDraw". 
  67. Because this not supplied with Windows 95, you should first install "DirectX"
  68. on your computer. You can install "DirectX" via the selection menu of the CD.
  69.  
  70. After you installed "DirectDraw" with "DirectX", install the miro graphics 
  71. drivers which offer high refresh rates and and an optimized graphics output.

  76. Installing miro graphics drivers and miroWINTOOLS for Windows 95:

  81. Note:      You can install the miro Windows 95 drivers by using the setup 
  82.            program included on the supplied CD or using "Display Properties"
  83.            in the Windows Control Panel.       
  84.  
  85. These miro Windows 95 drivers can only be used for the miroCRYSTAL 3D 
  86. graphics board in the single-screen mode.
  87.      
  88. In general, dual-screen modes (Twinface) are not supported!!!

  93. Installing miro drivers and miroWINTOOLS:
  94. =========================================
  95.  
  96. You can install the miro Windows95 drivers easily using the SETUP program
  97. contained on the CD. Please start Windows 95 and insert the miro CD. 
  98. The SETUP program starts automatically and offers you all components you
  99. can install.
  100.  
  101. The miro drivers and miroWINTOOLS will be copied. Then the "Display
  102. Properties" window opens automatically with the "Settings" tab on top.
  103. In the "Settings" tab, click the "Change display settings" button. Use
  104. the following menu to select the graphics board and the monitor connected
  105. to it. When clicking the "Change" button which is located in the line where
  106. also the name of the installed driver appears another menu opens where you
  107. can select "miroCRYSTAL 3D".
  108.  
  109. Click "apply" to confirm your choice. For your settings to take effect, restart
  110. the computer. After restarting the computer you can change the resolution and 
  111. the number of colors using the Control Panel.

  115. To install the miro Windows95 drivers, start Windows 95 and
  116. open the "Display" icon in the Control Panel. In the "Settings" tab click the 
  117. "Change Display Type" button. Use the following menu to select the graphics 
  118. board and the monitor connected to it. By clicking the "Change" button which 
  119. is located in the line where also the name of the installed driver appears
  120. another menu opens. Here you can open the "Disk..." item. Insert the CD 
  121. including the miro Windows95 drivers into your disk drive and click 
  122. "Browse" to select your CD-ROM drive. Change to the "DISKSETS\WIN95" directory
  123. and click "OK" to confirm.

  125. You can now select the "miroCRYSTAL 3D" board. 
  126.  
  127. Then, click "Apply" to confirm your choice. For your settings to take effect,
  128. restart the computer. After restarting the computer you can change the
  129. resolution and the number of colors using the Control Panel.

  132. Important hints for the installation:
  133. =====================================
  134.  
  135. 1.) Do not try to use the miro Windows 3.x drivers under Windows 95.
  136.     If you have done so already or tried to do it, make sure that all
  137.     old miro Win 3.x drivers and entries in the SYSTEM.INI file have been
  138.     removed.
  139.     
  140.     
  141. 2.) If you use a miro monitor or a multifrequency monitor,
  142.     we recommend you to use the Monitor.inf file provided on this installation
  143.     CD. Using the Monitor.inf file ensures that you use specially suited 
  144.     monitor parameters. In the "Display Properties Window", select 
  145.     "Change Display Type". Click "Change" to go to the monitor selection
  146.     window.
  147.     
  148.     Click the "Have Disk" button and "Browse" to go to a file selection
  149.     window. 
  150.     
  151.     Select the installation CD to change to the installation directory
  152.     for miroCRYSTAL 3D. The mirodisp.inf and miromon.inf files are
  153.     automatically entered. Click "OK" to go the miroMONITOR selection list. 
  154.     Select your monitor. 
  155.  
  156.     Hint:    Please do not try to boost your monitor performance by selecting
  157.              values which exceed the monitor┤s characteristics. In doing so,
  158.              you will damage your monitor. miro does not take on liability 
  159.              in such cases.                                     
  160.  
  161.     Please make sure that your Win95\INF directory does not include old 
  162.     OEM*.INF monitor files. This INF subdirectory cannot be listed by 
  163.     typing the DIR command but by typing DIR /a. These INF files are ASCII
  164.     files which you can view using any editor. Before removing such files
  165.     make sure that you do not delete the wrong files. If you use the miro
  166.     monitor files from the original Windows 95 CD, please use the monitor 
  167.     files from this installation CD.

  170. 3.) Each time you install graphics drivers Windows creates a new 
  171.     OEM*.INF file in the Win95\INF subdirectory. Windows 95 does not remove,
  172.     however, the old OEM*.INF files. Please make sure that only the current
  173.     OEM*.INF files are contained in this directory and remove the old files.
  174.     In doing so, you can avoid many problems.
  175.

  177. 4.) With the current Windows 95 version it may happen that  Windows 95 starts
  178.     with  an error message (only 16 colors are offered) after installing
  179.     miroCRYSTAL 3D. In this case, Windows 95 does not recognize the S3 Virge
  180.     processor. 
  181.     After installing the miro software this will not happen again.
  182.     
  183.     If it is however not possible to set the resolution and the number of
  184.     colors correctly, you may use the miroTool kill3d.exe.
  185.     This tool resets your computer to the state it was in before the 
  186.     installation of the graphics hardware. After restarting Windows you can
  187.     install your graphics hardware as described above.
  188.  
  189.     Please only use the kill3d.exe program if it is absolutely necessary. 
  190.     It is no substitute for the standard deinstall program which is located
  191.     in the miroCRYSTAL 3D program group.

  194. 5.) If you have to update the drivers or to reinstall the software, remove the
  195.     old miro software using the deinstall program. Before deinstalling all
  196.     system files close the miroPINBOARD.

  201. LIMITATIONS
  202. ==========================================================================
  203. In general, this graphics board does not support dual-screen configurations 
  204. (Twinface) together with other graphics boards!!!
  205.

  208. miroSCREEN      Do not use this tool with fixed-frequency monitors. Do not
  209.                 adjust image sizes and positions which deviate too much from
  210.                 the default settings.
  211.                 
  212. Adjust          You cannot use miroSCREEN ADJUST together with MPEG or TV 
  213.                 output.
  214.                 While miroSCREEN Adjust is enabled, avoid changing the
  215.                 resolution with miroPINBOARD or Windows95.
  216.                 It is not possible to change the image size with miroSCREEN
  217.                 Adjust under VGA2TV. You can, however, adapt the image size
  218.                 to your TV set.
  219.                 Extreme image positions result in distortions. Only use 
  220.                 miroSCREEN Adjust in the TV mode if your TV image is not
  221.                 centered correctly.   
  222.  
  223. DirectX         You will be notified by a DirectX application that the used
  224.                 driver has not been tested with DirectX.
  225.                 When you are requested if you want to replace the driver by
  226.                 a tested one, please answer NO.
  227.                 After having installed games under Windows 95, check if the
  228.                 miro driver  is still active after restarting the system.    
  229.                 If not, enable or install the driver again.
  230.  
  231. Xing! Player    If you want to output an MPEG movie on a TV compatible device,
  232.                 first start MPEG on your computer monitor and then switch to 
  233.                 TV output. In addition the hardware acceleration in the XING
  234.                 Setup should be turned off.
  235.                 Do not use the virtual TV screen during playback.
  236.                 
  237. AVI & TV        If you want to play back an AVI movie in the full-screen mode
  238.                 on TV, enable VGA2TV under DOS.
  239.  
  240. Windows 3.x     miroCRYSTAL 3D is the first graphics hardware generation which
  241.                 is adapted with its wide function range to a special system 
  242.                 environment that is Windows95 because Windows 95 is the first
  243.                 operating system which integrated the "DirectX" concept. In 
  244.                 future, WindowsNT is possibly the next system which integrates
  245.                 "DirectX". For this reason, no Windows 3.x drivers are provided
  246.                 for  miroCRYSTAL 3D.
  247.                 In case you need to use Windows 3.x anyway, you can download
  248.                 3.x drivers  via the miroBBS system or the internet.

  250. Windows NT      see Windows 3.x

  252. VGA2TV          using VGA2TV (see manual) and switching to the DOS fullscreen
  253.                 box it may appear a wrong char set. Type "mode co80" to get
  254.                 the correct 80x25 text mode.

  257. Other limitations
  258. =========================================================================
  259.  
  260. miro Computer Products AG always endeavors to support a wide range of 
  261. languages. Because not all manufacturers share this opinion, the "ActiveMovie"
  262. Player and "DirectX" is only supplied in English.
