Installation
------------
Consult your MediaXL Manual for the installation procedure.
The software is installed by default in C:\MGA\VIDPRES.
This program MUST be used in conjunction with the MGA Millennium Windows
Drivers version 1.21 BUILD 43 or higher. To check your version of the driver,
open the "MGA Control Panel" About box.
If used with Win95, you must be using version 2.30 or higher for the software
to work normally.
If your Millennium driver version is older than the ones stated, you need to
re-install the Millennium display drivers. Follow the instructions in your Manual.
Notes, Problems, and Limitations
--------------------------------
GENERAL:
--------
- MediaXL or MediaXL-MPEG cannot be used simultaneously with a memory module. It can
be used with a 2MB or a 4MB Millennium board.
- MediaXL or MediaXL-MPEG require the use of interrupts to function. The PCI slot
that the Millennium card is plugged in needs to have an interrupt assigned to it.
This is done by the system BIOS automatically at boot-up or must be done
manually in the BIOS setup. If your system BIOS version does not support
assignment of an IRQ to a display adapter, then a newer version of your
BIOS will have to be obtained from your motherboard manufacturer.
- In Win95 and Windows 3.1x (using the ModeSwitch driver), changing resolution or color
depth is NOT supported while VIDPRES is running, or while MediaXL-MPEG is used to
display an MPEG clip (e.g. with Media Player). You simply need to close the
application, change resolution and re-start the application.
- Video display in 256 color resolutions is only supported if the ModeSwitch driver
is enabled (QCDP). For better video quality we suggest the use of 65K or 16.7M
color desktop. Video display under 256 color resolutions is not supported in
Windows 95.
- Maximum video window size varies according to resolution, pixel depth and available
offscreen memory. Hence, fullscreen video is not always possible. If you want to
view video at full screen, switch to a resolution where it is supported (e.g. 1024x768
in 65K colors or 640x480 in 16.7M colors)
640x480 800x600 1024x768 1152x882 1280x1024 1600x1200
------------------------------------------------------------------------
8bpp 640x480 800x600 1024x768 1152x882 1280x960 1280x960
16bpp 640x480 800x600 1024x768 - - -
24bpp 640x480 640x480 - - - -
32bpp 640x480 640x480 - - - -
Please note that these are the maximum sizes the video window can be
set to. However, the actual video window size may be smaller if offscreen
space is limited. You may need to disable Device Bitmaps caching in the MGA
Control Panel to achieve maximum video window size.
- If the video window is put partly outside the display screen the grab will stop
and the video window will display a still image. To re-enable motion move the video
window in order for it to be fully contained in the desktop.
- The Media XL drivers do not support switching to full window DOS shells
while MPEG is playing. You need to keep your DOS shell in a window mode or stop
the MPEG playback before switching to a full screen DOS shell.
In Windows 95, DOS prompt windows should not be open when Video Presentation
is running.
- Occlusion is NOT supported when the image is vertically flipped (CTRL-V). If another
window is overlaid on top of the video window while the image is vertically flipped
the video will freeze and a still image will be displayed. Click on the video window
to unfreeze the image.
- Images captured through VIDPRES are always in Windows 24-bit DIB format, no matter
what the resolution and color depth are.
- Video CD and CD-i MPEG movies are supported by VIDPRES2 if the application CDIDLL.EXE
has been executed prior to its launch. The installation program places a LOAD=
statement in WIN.INI to ensure that CDIDLL.EXE is always executed at boot time.
If this statement is removed then CDIDLL.EXE must be manually run from the Windows
desktop (File, Run, etc). If CDIDLL.EXE is not executed then VIDPRES2 will not run.
TV TUNER and VIDPRES
--------------------
- If the reception of your cable TV channels in VIDPRES is not as good as with
your television set, it might be due to your cable company using the HRC carrier
frequency instead of the standard. If this is the case, you can remedy the situation
by modifying the following line in the DVMCIMIL.INI file, found in your main Windows
directory:
[Carrier] CHANGE TO --> [Carrier]
CarrierType=0 CarrierType=1
VIDPRES UNDER WINDOWS 3.1x:
---------------------------
- To run VIDPRES, the MGA Control Panel must be opened. There is a load statement in the
win.ini file (load = C:\MGA\CPANEL\MGACTRL.EXE).
VIDPRES UNDER WINDOWS 95:
-------------------------
- There is no video display in 8 bit (256 colors) mode.
- Do not run an application that uses the DirectDraw interface at the same
time as VIDPRES is opened. The other application has to be closed before
using VIDPRES.
- In Windows 95, CD-i support requires that real mode CD-ROM drivers be installed
therefore 32-bit protected mode drivers must be disabled in the control panel.
(In the control panel, under system - performance - file system - troubleshooting)
If CD-i support is not required, 32-bit protected mode drivers are recommended
for playback of MPEG files.
- With the Windows 95 Plus Pack, there is some corruption when the software cursor
is panned on top of the video image.
VIDCAP:
-------
- Capturing to an AVI file in 800x600x16bit is not supported by the VIDCAP
driver.
- The VIDCAP driver does not grab any frames in full video size (640x480).
The video can be viewed at this size but to capture it a maximum video
size of 320x240 is supported.
- In Win95, capturing a palette with VIDCAP causes a divide by zero error.
- In Win95, if a software mouse cursor is being used, it will flash and be
grabbed into the video clip if it is moved over the preview window while
capturing video sequences.
