  5. This diskette contains Adaptec's Windows 95 solution for the AIC-7800 Family
  6. of Host Adapters.  This includes:

  31. This readme provides the information needed to install and use the Adaptec
  32. 7800 Family Manager (driver) for Windows 95.
  33.  
  34. If you are performing a first time Windows 95 installation, see Installing
  35. Windows 95 and the Driver". If Windows 95 is already installed in your system,
  36. see Updating Windows 95 with the Driver.

  39. Installing Windows 95 and the Driver
  40. ====================================

  42. A version of the aic78xx.mpd driver is embedded (included) in the Windows 95
  43. installation CD. During a normal Windows 95 installation, the 7800 Family 
  44. host adapter is detected in your system and the embedded aic78xx.mpd driver
  45. is automatically installed. Once the Windows 95 installation is complete, 
  46. you can update the aic78xx.mpd driver with the most recent version of the
  47. driver by -following the instructions in Updating Windows 95 with the Driver,
  48. below.

  50.     Note: If Windows 95 installation cannot detect the 7800 Family host
  51.     adapter installed in your computer, you must install the aic78xx.mpd
  52.     driver manually once Windows 95 installation is complete. To determine if
  53.     the aic78xx.mpd driver was installed, and to install the driver manually,
  54.     see Updating Windows 95 with the Driver, below.

  57. Updating Windows 95 with the Driver
  58. ====================================
  59.  
  60. This section describes how to update/install the aic78xx.mpd driver if 
  61. Windows 95 is already installed. If you are installing Windows 95 for the 
  62. first time, see Installing Windows 95 and the Driver, above.
  63.  
  64. Note: All Adaptec 7800 Family host adapters use the same aic78xx.mpd driver.
  65. Once the driver is updated, it is not necessary to update it again for each 
  66. 7800 Family host adapter installed in your system.
  67.  
  68.     1 Start Windows 95.
  69.  
  70.     2 Click the Start button on the Windows 95 task bar, and then point to 
  71.       Settings.
  72.  
  73.     3 Click Control Panel.
  74.  
  75.     4 Double-click the system icon.
  76.  
  77.     5 On the Device Manager tab, click the plus sign next to the SCSI 
  78.       controller icon.
  79.  
  80.     Note: If Windows 95 cannot determine the type of host adapter installed in
  81.     your computer, a yellow question mark labelled Other devices appears
  82.     instead of the SCSI controller icon. To continue, click the plus sign next
  83.     to the question mark; a yellow question mark labelled PCI SCSI Bus 
  84.     Controller then appears.
  85.  
  86.     6 Double-click the 7800 Family host adapter you wish to update, or if a 
  87.       yellow question mark labelled PCI SCSI Bus Controller is displayed, 
  88.       double-click the question mark.

  90.     7 On the Driver tab, click Change Driver. You may be asked to select
  91.       the hardware type; if asked to do so, select SCSI -Controller.
  92.  
  93.     8 Click the Have Disk button and enter a:\win95 as the location to 
  94.       copy the manufacturer's file from.
  95.  
  96.     9 Click OK.
  97.  
  98.     10 Select the 7800 Family host adapter, and click OK.
  99.  
  100.     11 Click OK. The driver is copied and scanned.
  101.  
  102.     12 You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect. Click 
  103.        Yes to restart your computer. Click No to return to the system 
  104.        properties window.
