  5.    This archive contains ARJ version 2.81 OFFICIAL FULL RELEASE from ARJ
  6.    Software, Inc., http://www.arjsoftware.com.  This is a major
  7.    enhancement and bug fix release.
  8.  
  9.  
  10.    ARJ is a file compression utility with more file management functions
  11.    than other popular file compression utilities.  The version management
  12.    and backup support features of ARJ strongly set it apart from other
  13.    file compression utilities.  ARJ is command line driven which makes it
  14.    easier to use in automated processes such as providing backup for an
  15.    accounting package.
  16.  
  17.    The use of ARJ in a business, commercial, government or institutional
  18.    environment EXCEPT for a 30 day evalution period requires a license.
  19.  
  20.    This software as originally released by ARJ Software, Inc. came
  21.    "sealed" in an ARJ self-extracting archive with an ARJ-SECURITY digital
  22.    envelope to prevent tampering.  Re-archival of this software will
  23.    destroy this security feature "seal".
  24.  
  25.    In addition, this release is set up to demonstrate the new execute
  26.    after extraction option.  This self-extractor will execute the program
  27.    ARJTEST.EXE after a successful extraction.  ARJTEST.EXE is a simple
  28.    display-a-message program.  Because this self-extractor is ARJ-SECURED,
  29.    the user will not be prompted for permission to execute the ARJTEST.EXE
  30.    program.

  32.    Please note that some versions of Norton Anti-virus will report a false
  33.    alarm when scanning this archive and/or its contents.  This
  34.    self-extracting archive will test itself during extraction and report
  35.    any corruption or infection.

  37.    This version of ARJ uses a new registration scheme.  This obsoletes all
  38.    ARJ registration keys prior to 2.7x.  ARJ 1.x and 2.x registered users
  39.    are eligible for a free replacement registration key.  Please supply
  40.    proof of registration with a copy of your signed license document, or a
  41.    copy of your registration keys, or a printout or screen capture of your
  42.    ARJ.EXE registration display which we will use to check our records.

  44.    This release of ARJ now saves the Windows file properties of date-time
  45.    created and date-time accessed.  This will cause archives to be
  46.    slightly larger in size.  This feature can be disabled.

  49.    MAJOR FEATURES OF ARJ INCLUDE:

  51.    Year 2000 compliance.
  52.  
  53.    Windows 95/98/ME long filename support in ARJ and REARJ (not WinNT/2K).
  54.    Another program named ARJ32 for Win95/98/ME/NT/2000 (32 bit version)
  55.    supports Windows NT and Windows 2000 (and Windows XP) long filenames.

  57.    The ability to repair small amounts of archive damage (headers and file
  58.    data) for an ARJ-PROTECTED (-hk) archive.
  59.    
  60.    The ability to process and archive up to 50,000 files at one time (up
  61.    to 260,000 files for registered users).

  63.    The ability to store many different backups (chapters) within a SINGLE 
  64.    archive and restore any specific backup.  This is a powerful file 
  65.    version management feature.

  67.    ARJ provides excellent file compression in terms of resulting archive
  68.    size and speed.

  70.    ARJ has the option to create multiple volume archives with one command 
  71.    making ARJ useful for making backups to multiple floppies or archiving 
  72.    a very large file to several floppies without "SLICE"ing.
  73.  
  74.    ARJ has the ability to generate multiple volume archives with all 
  75.    volumes with an EXE file extension to simplify Internet browser 
  76.    downloading of such archives.

  78.    A myriad of commands and options to provide ummatched flexibility in
  79.    archiver usage.
