  23. 1. Introduction

  25. I used to keep addresses, phone numbers and other personal information in 
  26. Microsoft Cardfile cards, which I missed in Microsoft Windows 95. 
  27. The alternatives, MS Scheduler, MS Outlook, and various shareware PIMs, 
  28. were either too complex or inconvenient to use. 
  29. I just needed a simple, small, notebook with the ability to locate an item 
  30. quickly. Specifically, I wanted something that consisted of empty cards - 
  31. without any predefined fields (zip, state, phone, fax, etc.). 
  32. Instead of using the old MS Cardfile, I decided to make such a PIM myself. 
  33. AZZ Cardfile now helps me to manage phone numbers and addresses. 
  34. This small application is equally  suitable for use as a small "database" 
  35. for references, notes, recipes .... or any other information that would be 
  36. stored in a card file.

  42. * Data files are compressed, encrypted and password protected
  43. * Imports Microsoft Cardfile *.crd files (text only) and delimited text files
  44. * Exports ASCII and delimited text files

  61. 3. Year 2000 (Y2K) Compatibility Statement

  63. AZZ Cardfile (Information Management software application) versions 2.0 and
  64. 2.1 do not maintain or track any calendar date or time of day information,
  65. and therefore should not be affected by the Year-2000 roll over.

  99. 6. Installation and uninstall

  101. Close all other applications before installation.
  102. Run setup.exe and follow instructions.

  104. NOTE: close compression agents (e.g. ZipMagic) before installation.

  106. Note for Windows NT users: in some cases you should add shortcuts to 
  107. Start menu and Desktop manually.

  109. If you find that AZZ Cardfile does not meet your needs, 
  110. you can easily remove it from your computer system by using the 
  111. Control Panel Add/Remove Applications window.  
  112. Activate the Control Panel, double click Add/Remove Programs and 
  113. double click on the AZZ Cardfile list box entry.

  115. You can also uninstall AZZ Cardfile by running UNINSTALL.EXE in the 
  116. application folder.

  122. AZZ Cardfile version 2 has the following pricing:
  123.  
  124. Single user licenses, $12 per user.
  125.  
  126. A Site License costs $240 (equal to 20 users) and covers all locations for 
  127. your organization within a 160 kilometer radius of your site (100 miles). 
  128. One big advantage of a Site License is that you do not need to keep track 
  129. of how many people at your site are using the software.
  130.  
  131. A World-Wide License costs $1000 and it covers all locations for your 
  132. organization on the planet Earth.

  134. Paying for AZZ Cardfile is fairly simple. 
  135. From the Register menu, choose Register Now or open the REGISTER.EXE 
  136. program that accompanies AZZ Cardfile.

  139. AZZ Cardfile has a build-in protection scheme which disappears once you 
  140. register.  When payment processing service receives your payment, 
  141. they will inform me (the author), and I will send you your 
  142. registration codes along with instructions on how to enter them into 
  143. AZZ Cardfile.

  145. If you provide an e-mail address with your payment, 
  146. I will send you the registration codes via e-mail.
  147.  
  148. If you do not have an email address, please provide your complete 
  149. postal address.

  151. When you register AZZ Cardfile you will be entitled to:

  153. * Your personal registered version of AZZ Cardfile without the 
  154.   reminder window that appears when running the unregistered version. 
  155.   (You will receive a unique User ID and Serial Number.)

  157. * Free AZZ Cardfile updates. These can be downloaded directly from the 
  158.   AZZ Cardfile web site on the Internet:

  166. In addition, registering will enable the author to continue developing 
  167. AZZ Cardfile and you will be maintaining the "honesty system" that is 
  168. the basis of all shareware.

  170. NOTE: I am not selling AZZ Cardfile installation disks. 
  171.       The only thing I deliver is AZZ Cardfile registration codes 
  172.       (User ID and Serial Number).

  175. 8. Problems running AZZ cardfile - try before you buy
  176.  
  177. AZZ Cardfile is still under development. 
  178. Every few months, I upload a new copy to my web site, which contains 
  179. minor bug fixes, and slight enhancements. 
  180. All future versions of AZZ Cardfile will be unlocked by the same User ID 
  181. and Serial Number - so a registration will be valid for all versions. 
  182.  
  183. There are no problems running AZZ Cardfile in the most systems. 
  184. However, this application can not run properly on some specific conditions.
  185.  
  186. Here are some bottlenecks:
  187.  
  188. In some cases before Windows shut down you have to close AZZ Cardfile
  189. (if it is active on the system tray).
  190.  
  191. AZZ Cardfile makes no pretense at being a powerful word processor. 
  192. Use text formatting features moderately. 
  193.  
  194. So far AZZ Cardfile don't support:
  195. * pictures and other OLE objects.
  196. * Asian languages Windows versions.

  200. 9. Distribution
  201.  
  202. AZZ Cardfile may be freely distributed to any persons under the following 
  203. conditions.
  204.  
  205. * The original files remain unchanged and complete. 
  206.   An additional file may be added with any relevant comments from the distributors.
  207.  
  208. * Only un-registered copies (without information about User ID and Serial Number) 
  209.   of AZZ Cardfile may be distributed. 
  210.   If the registered owner distributes or discloses his/her registration information 
  211.   to others, then he/she is breaking the terms of the licensing agreement and 
  212.   therefore breaking the law.
  213.  
  214. * The software must be distributed free. 
  215.   The only charge that may be incurred by a user in obtaining the un-registered 
  216.   version of the software is the cost of the media (ie. floppy disk or CD-ROM) 
  217.   plus a nominal copying fee. 
  218.   It must be clearly labeled on any packaging that the user is obtaining the 
  219.   Shareware version of AZZ Cardfile, and does not have a "full" license.
  220.  
  221. * If the software is to be distributed on a large scale (ie. Magazine cover disc, 
  222.   BBS, Shareware CD-ROM, etc..) then notification would be greatly appreciated
