  4. Important Notes
  5. ---------------
  6. If you are installing from floppies, Setup may not use all of the disks
  7. depending on your system configuration and options selected for installation.
  8. If you get an error about a missing DLL the first time you try to run the
  9. program, you need to re-start Windows.

  12. Overview
  13. --------
  14. Caligari Pioneer (previously Fountain) includes 3D shape creation tools such
  15. as 3D primitives, 2D polygons, face editing, lathing, sweeping and tips as
  16. well as the extrusion of TrueType fonts. You can choose between infinite and
  17. local light sources, and you can paint not only entire objects, but also on
  18. individual faces and vertices.

  20. Existing 3D geometry can be imported via DXF, 3D Studio, Wavefront, LightWave
  21. and Imagine filters. JPG (Jpeg) files can be imported for use as texture maps.
  22. While Caligari Pioneer is primarily an authoring tool, the ability to read
  23. VRML files allows you to take advantage of existing 3D resources on the
  24. Internet and to test VRML-specific features such as levels of detail,
  25. in-lining and hyperlinks.

  27. Caligari Pioneer may only be resold in any form or included as part of other
  28. applications with the written consent of Caligari Corporation.

  33.     *    Improved VRML compatibility, both in browse mode and VRML output.

  35.     *    The very latest 3DR from Intel.  Version 2.2.1 of 3DR is much faster
  36.     than previous releases.

  39. Requirements
  40. ------------
  41. The minimum requirements for Caligari Pioneer are a fast 486 with 8MB of RAM
  42. and a math-coprocessor (CPU). To access VRML worlds on the Web, a SLIP/PPP
  43. connection and a 14.4k modem is also required.
  44.  
  45. Caligari Pioneer will run on Windows 3.11, Windows 95, and Windows NT. If
  46. you have Windows 3.11, you will need Win32s as well. Some versions of
  47. Caligari Pioneer include this. If Setup does not detect Win32s on your
  48. system, it will offer to install it or inform you that you can get Win32s
  49. from our Web site.

  51. To comfortably navigate through worlds with over a thousand polygons, we
  52. recommend a Pentium with a 64-bit graphics card (preferably with 3D
  53. acceleration). A 28.8k modem or ISDN connection is also recommended for
  54. accessing larger worlds.

  57. Installation Instructions
  58. -------------------------
  59. Note: When directed to Run a program, such as SETUP.EXE, you may do by
  60. any one of the following methods:
  61.  
  62.     Windows 3.11 and Windows NT 3.51
  63.         *    Choose the "Run..." option from the File menu in Program
  64.         Manager. Type the full path to the program. For example:
  65.         "D:\TMP\SETUP.EXE"
  66.         *    Or, double-click on the name of the file in File Manager.
  67.  
  68.     Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
  69.         *    Choose the "Run..." option from the Start menu. Type the
  70.         full path to the program. For example: "D:\TMP\SETUP.EXE"
  71.         *    Or, double-click on the icon in Explorer or a program
  72.         folder window.

  74. Important Note: If Caligari Pioneer fails to start after Setup, complaining
  75. about missing DLLs, you may need to restart Windows.

  77. WEB Installation
  78. ----------------
  79.     1.     Download the appropriate executable file. (The current name for
  80.     this file is CP11-SI.EXE.) This is a self-extracting, self-
  81.     installing file.
  82.     2.     Run the file you have downloaded. It will extract the installation
  83.     files and then run the Setup program.
  84.     3.     Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Caligari Pioneer
  85.     program.
  86.     4.     After setup, Caligari Pioneer is ready to go!

  88. If you have any problems with the self-installing version, or you want to
  89. download Caligari Pioneer in smaller sections, you can get the individual
  90. disk files from our Web site.
  91.  
  92. WEB Installation - Individual Disk Files
  93. ----------------------------------------
  94.     1.     Download the complete set of numbered executable files. (The
  95.     current names for these files are CP11-1.EXE, CP11-2.EXE, etc.)
  96.     These files are self-extracting.
  97.     2.     Place all of the files into a directory where you wish to extract
  98.     temporary files into.
  99.     3.     Run all of the executables you have downloaded (one at a time).
  100.     This will place all of the installation files in the same directory
  101.     as the numbered executables.
  102.     4.     Run SETUP.EXE from this directory.
  103.     5.     Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Caligari Pioneer
  104.     program.
  105.     6.     After setup, Caligari Pioneer is ready to go! You may want to clean
  106.     up the temporary files created in step 3.
  107.  
  108. Floppy Disk Setup
  109. -----------------
  110.     1.     Place Disk 1 into the appropriate floppy drive.
  111.     2.     Run SETUP.EXE from this floppy.
  112.     3.     Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Caligari Pioneer
  113.     program. You will be prompted to insert the next disks when needed.
  114.     Note that setup may skip some disks due to your system configuration
  115.      and the options you have chosen for installation.
  116.     4.     After setup, Caligari Pioneer is ready to go!

  118. CD-ROM Setup
  119. ------------
  120. 1.     Place the CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  121. 2.     Run SETUP.EXE from the CD.
  122. 3.     Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Caligari Pioneer
  123.     program.
  124. 4.     After setup, Caligari Pioneer is ready to go!

  127. Uninstallation Instructions
  128. ---------------------------
  129. If you want to remove Caligari Pioneer from your system, it is easy to do so:
  130.  
  131.     Windows 3.11 and Windows NT 3.51
  132.  
  133.     Double-click on the Uninstall icon in the Caligari Pioneer program
  134.     group.
  135.  
  136.     Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
  137.  
  138.     Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel.
  139.     Select Caligari Pioneer in the list, and then click on Remove
  140.

  142. Using with Netscape
  143. -------------------
  144. While you do not need an HTML browser to access VRML files across the Web,
  145. you will need one to display 2D formats such as HTML. Currently, only
  146. Netscape is supported. Here is how you configure Netscape for recognizing
  147. what to do with VRML files:
  148.  
  149.     1.     Select the "Options/Preferences" menu item.
  150.     2.     Select the "Helper Applications" item in the pulldown.
  151.     3.     Click the "New Type" button.
  152.     4.     In the Configure New Mime type dialog enter:
  153.         For Mime Type: x-world
  154.         For Mime Subtype: x-vrml
  155.     5.     In the "Extensions" field enter: .wrl
