  75. This package contains Win Multiple Configurations, by JRE Enterprises.
  76. This document contains only a brief description of the package and its
  77. features, along with instructions for its installation.  After unzipping
  78. Win Multiple Configurations, view INSTALL.WRI for additional
  79. installation instructions.

  81. Win Multiple Configurations (WMC) will allow you to save and use up to
  82. one-hundred different desktops.  This includes having different
  83. SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI configurations.  Create desktops specific for
  84. your children, husband, wife and/or co-worker(s).  Also, password
  85. protect any or all saved configuration entries -- a good way to protect
  86. against accidental access to certain applications and/or critical data.
  87. WMC requires VBRUN300.DLL and Windows 3.1.  WMC now supports
  88. installation on a server and being accessed by client workstations.

  90. Win Multiple Configurations is a shareware program.  This evaluation
  91. version includes all features of the program, and is not crippled in any
  92. way. You may use it for up to 30 days, without charge.  If you like the
  93. program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you
  94. are required to pay for the program (see REGISTER.WRI for more details).
  95. Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to
  96. obtain this evaluation version was a fee for their copying and

  116. other types of files.  Writer's Cramp is a simple, small, inexpensive

  191. Win Multiple Configurations (WMC) requires Windows 3.1 and VBRUN300.DLL.
  192. VBRUN300.DLL must be accessible via the path, normally it is found in
  193. the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  194.  
  195. To install Win Multiple Configurations, run SETUP.EXE.
  196.   WMC now supports being installed on a server and accessed by many
  197.   clients.  For server installations, use the OPTIONAL INSTALL method,
  198.   which places all executables (exe, com, bat, dll, vbx) in the
  199.   application directory.  WMC also supports each client machine or each
  200.   user having their own WMC data directory, where saved configuration are
  201.   stored.  This can be use in a standalone or client/server installation
  202.   and allows up to 100 saved configurations per WMC data directory.
  203.  
  204. There are now four different ways to use WMC; Classic, Enhanced-Classic,
  205. Client/Server, Enhanced Client/Server.
  206.  
  207. Classic WMC:
  208.  Classic WMC is where WMC is installed on each workstation.  The person
  209.  or group of people using the workstation can save up to 100 Windows
  210.  configurations.  The 100 saved configurations are shared amongst the
  211.  people using the workstation.
  212.  
  213.  WMC is installed using either the STANDARD or OPTIONAL installation
  214.  method on each workstation.  Up to 100 configurations can be saved and
  215.  restored on each workstation. Saved configurations are stored in the WMC
  216.  installation directory.  All users of the workstation share the 100
  217.  configurations.  This is the standard way to use WMC and was the only
  218.  way to use WMC prior to Version 7.0.
  219.  
  220. Enhanced-Classic WMC:
  221.  Enhanced-Classic WMC is where WMC is installed on each workstation. The
  222.  person or group of people using the workstation can save up to 100
  223.  Windows configurations per WMC Data directory.  Each person can specify
  224.  their own WMC Data directory and need not share it with other people.
  225.  
  226.  WMC is installed using either the STANDARD or OPTIONAL installation
  227.  method on each workstation.  The WMCDATAPATH environment variable must
  228.  be set before using WMC to a "WMC Data Directory", which is a directory

  243. Client/Server WMC:
  244.  Client/server WMC only supports the situation where each person or group
  245.  use only one client workstation (Person A always uses workstation 1,
  246.  Persons C and D always uses workstation 2).  Client/server WMC does not
  247.  support a person or group using multiple client workstations (Person A
  248.  uses workstation 1 and uses workstation 2).  Enhanced Client/Server WMC
  249.  supports the use of multiple client workstations by an individual in
  250.  certain situations.

  252.  WMC is installed using the OPTIONAL installation method on a server.
  253.  Client workstations connect to the server to execute WMC.  Run
  254.  CSSETUP.EXE, found in the WMC installation directory on the server, for
  255.  each client to set up the WMC Program Manager Group and icons on the
  256.  client(s).  The WMCDATAPATH environment variable must be set before
  257.  using WMC to a "WMC Data Directory", which is a directory other than the
  258.  WMC installation directory. The directory can reside on the server or
  259.  the client workstation.  The WMC DATA Directory must be a unique
  260.  directory for each client workstation if the directory(s) reside on a
  261.  server.  Up to 100 configurations can be saved and restored per WMC Data
  262.  Directory.  If each user of the workstation sets the WMCDATAPATH
  263.  environment variable to a different WMC Data Directory, then each user
  264.  can save and restore up to 100 configurations.  In this case, the
  265.  WMCUSER environment variable must also be set before using WMC to a
  266.  unique value for each user; otherwise, WMC will not work properly.
  267.  Normally, the WMCDATAPATH and WMCUSER variables are set in the
  268.  AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  279.  workstation 2).  If a person uses multiple client workstations, then
  280.  Enhanced Client/Server WMC will work if each of the client workstations
  281.  are the same in hardware and software configuration.  WMC saves and
  282.  restores the Windows SYSTEM.INI file, which contains hardware and
  283.  software specifics for a workstation.  If the SYSTEM.INI values do not
  284.  match the workstation hardware and software specifics, then Windows may
  285.  not start!

  312.  for WMC.  We recommend creating a group WMC.  In group WMC, create

  349. GP fault occurs when run on a 286 machine.  Problem is due to a bug in
  350. VBRUN300.DLL.  You must use VBRUN300.DLL dated 5/12/93 or later to fix
  351. this problem.
