  16. =======
  17.     Modi-File is an easy to use file utility that gives convenient access to file information.  It enables 
  18. you to change the date and time stamp of one or more files and all the attributes as well.  It is an 
  19. ideal utility for software developers wishing to use the date and time as part of their version 
  20. stamping but can be used by anyone needing this ability.

  23. Registration
  24. ============
  25.     Modi-File is shareware, it is NOT public domain.  The
  26. registration fee is $10 (US) with a free 15-day trial period.
  27. If you intend to use Modi-File beyond the trial period, you must
  28. register by filling out the form in file REGISTER.TXT or providing
  29. the same information written on a sheet of paper and sending it
  30. along with your registration fee to:

  36. You may also register through CompuServe's Shareware Registration
  37. Database.  On CompuServe, type 'GO SWREG'.  The registration
  38. number for Modi-File is 5977.

  41. You will receive a serial number which you can enter into Modi-File
  42. to disable the registration reminder screens.  Once your number is 
  43. received, select 'Registration' under the 'Help' menu.  Then enter
  44. your name and serial number EXACTLY as given to you in your
  45. registration receipt.

  47. Remember, your registration supports shareware development.
  48. The ability to provide future releases depends on your support.

  51. Installation
  52. ============
  53.     A Setup program is provided which will de-compress all of the
  54. files, install them to the appropriate directory, and create a
  55. Program Manager group.  Just run SETUP.EXE from your distribution
  56. diskettes or self-extracting archive and follow the prompts.
  57.  
  58. With one exception, the setup program will not copy any files into
  59. your system directories nor will it modify any system files.  The
  60. exception is VBRUN300.DLL.  If you have a version of the setup 
  61. program which includes that file, then it will be installed to
  62. your windows\system directory.  However, there is another version
  63. of the setup program which assumes you already have that file.  
  64.  
  65. To use the setup program provided, just run SETUP.EXE from either
  66. the distribution diskettes or hard-drive directory containing the
  67. distribution files. To complete the installation, follow the 
  68. instructions given in the setup program.

  70. If the setup program is not available or you do not wish to use it
  71. you can manually install the program using the following guidelines.
  72. Create a directory to contain the program files.  Use the DOS
  73. command EXPAND with the -R switch to decompress each file whose
  74. filename ends with the underscore character.  Copy the decompressed
  75. files into the desired directory.  Setup a program manager group and
  76. program items if desired.

  78. The required files to use this program are MODIFILE.EXE, DFINFO2.VBX
  79. and VBRUN300.DLL.  All other files are optional.

  81. This program uses a VBX called DFINFO2.VBX.  If desired, you may
  82. place this file in your windows\system directory.  That way, if you
  83. have other programs which use this file, youll only have to have one
  84. copy.  Otherwise, just leave it in the same directory as the other
  85. program files.

  88. Distribution
  89. ============
  90.     I retain the copyright on all versions.  You may distribute
  91. the shareware version as long as you include this document with all
  92. all of the original files and distribute the software unmodified, 
  93. free of charge (except for reasonable distribution fees), and
  94. without additional restrictions.  Vendors, please see the Vendor
  95. Licensing Agreement in VENDOR.TXT.

  102. and have the last character replaced by an underscore):
