  1.                           Definition of Shareware

  3. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it.
  4. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are required to
  5. register it.

  7. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and retail software, and the
  8. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  9. below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like retail
  10. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. The main difference is 
  11. in the method of distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy 
  12. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. 
  13. For example, some authors require written permission before a commercial disk 
  14. vendor may copy their Shareware.

  16. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
  17. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's retail or
  18. Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  19. can try before you buy. And because the overhead is lower, prices are lower
  20. also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  21. product, you don't pay for it.
