  22. About SmartWhois
  23. ================
  24. SmartWhois is a useful network information utility
  25. that allows you to find out all the available
  26. information about an IP address or a hostname,
  27. including country, state or province, city, name of the
  28. network provider, administrator and technical support
  29. contact information.

  31. Unlike standard Whois utilities, SmartWhois can
  32. find the information about a computer located in any
  33. part of the world, intelligently querying the right
  34. database and delivering all the related records within
  35. a few seconds. If a user is not satisfied with the
  36. results found in database he can have the program query
  37. a specific user-defined name server.
  38.  
  39. SmartWhois can save obtained information to an
  40. archive file. Users can load this archive the next time
  41. the program is launched and add more information to it.
  42. This feature allows you to build and maintain your own
  43. database of IP addresses and hostnames.

  45. SmartWhois is capable of caching query results
  46. which reduces the time needed to query an address: if
  47. the information is in the cache file it is immediately
  48. displayed and no connections to name servers are
  49. required.
