  91. Data Access Object (DAO 3.6) layer built into the Microsoft JET database
  92. engine.

  121. INSTALLATION
  122. ------------
  123.  
  124. The installation file has command line options that can be used to install
  125. QUERyer in different ways. This is useful for a number of reasons. For
  126. example installing to a network version of Windows can cause problems if
  127. the user does not have write privileges to some of the Windows directories.
  128. Using Manual Mode installation allows you to nominate alternative
  129. directories.
  130.  
  131. The following installation modes are available:
  132.  
  133. Test Mode
  134. When you run the installation executable with the /T command line option,
  135. the installation script will be tested.  Although the installation will
  136. look the same, no changes to your system will be made.  No files will be
  137. copied and no INI or Program Manager changes will be made.  This mode is
  138. useful when testing an installation before any files are copied.
  139.  
  140. Manual Mode
  141. The /M option runs the installation in manual mode.  You will be prompted
  142. for the locations of your Windows, System, and Temp directories.  You can
  143. specify any directories, if they do not exist they will be created.  Any
  144. changes to INI files will be saved into the Windows directory you specify.
  145. With this option you can have the installation run without installing any
  146. files into your real Windows and System directory.  You can then manually
  147. copy the files to their proper destination.
  148.  
  149. Extract Mode
  150. The /X command line option allows you to extract single files from the
  151. installation executable.  The files that are contained in the installation
  152. executable will be listed along with the file dates and sizes.  You can
  153. then select a file and choose the directory to place the file into.  If you
  154. follow the /X option with a pathname, all of the files in the installation
  155. executable will be placed into that directory. If the directory does not
  156. exist, it will be created.
  157. The /Z command line option acts exactly like to /X option except Windows
  158. will be exited after the files are extracted.  This can be useful for BBS
  159. operators that want to perform virus scanning on all of the files in the
  160. installation executable.

  162. Silent Mode
  163. The /S command line option must be placed at the beginning of the command
  164. line. This option can be used to create a silent installation, no
  165. background or progress dialogs are displayed during the installation when
  166. this option is specified. Normally this option is followed by the pathname
  167. of an INI file that contains all of the answers to the normal prompts
  168. displayed during the installation. The installation executable can use
  169. these values instead of prompting for them. This option can be useful for
  170. network administrators that wish to install software remotely over a
  171. network.

  173. For example to install QUERYer in manual mode select Run on the Start 
  174. Button and enter: QRYER40.EXE /M

  191. QUERYer. If you come across an idea that you think might make a nice
  192. enhancement to QUERYer, your input is always welcome.

  194. report it to us. Describe what you did, what happened, what version of
  195. QUERYer you have, any error messages QUERYer gave, what kind of computer
  196. you have, which operating system you're using, and anything else you think
  197. might be relevant.

  212. One copy of the shareware version of QUERYer may be used by a single person
  213. for evaluation purposes without charge for 30 days.  Subsequent downloads
  214. of the shareware version by or for the same user do not extend, renew, or
  215. otherwise restart the term of the license for the shareware version.

  217. One copy of the registered version of QUERYer may either be used by a
  218. single person who uses the software personally on one or more computers, or
  219. installed on a single workstation used non-simultaneously by multiple
  220. people, but not both. You may access the registered version of QUERYer
  221. through a network, provided that you have obtained individual licenses for
  222. the software covering all workstations that will access the software
  223. through the network.  For instance, if eight different workstations will
  224. access QUERYer on the network, each workstation must have its own QUERYer
  225. license, regardless of whether they use QUERYer at different times or
  226. concurrently. Site licenses of the software may be obtained from Chisel
  227. Software which cover each workstation at one location.

  229. You may make a reasonable number of copies of the registered version of the
  230. software for backup and archival purposes.
