  18. 1. INSTALLATION/UNINSTALLATION
  19.  
  20.    The device drivers for the decoder card are available on both the
  21.    diskette and the CD.
  22.  
  23.    During the installation, you are asked to select the regional code.
  24.    Refer to the GETTING STARTED manual, Appendix B, for the correct regional
  25.    code. If an incorrect regional code is entered, you may enter a new regional
  26.    code by uninstalling the software, and then reinstalling the PC-DVD Player 
  27.    software.  Before un-installing the software, close all open programs.
  28.    
  29.    You can change the regional code up to five times; the installation prompt
  30.    displays the counter.  If you do not need to change the regional code during
  31.    reinstallation, choose NO on the prompt.

  34. 2. VIDEO CONFIGURATION AFTER FIRST INSTALLATION
  35.  
  36.    For proper video configuration after first installation or re-installation,
  37.    launch the dvdplayer to playback DVD movie or any mpeg files. The application
  38.    will detect that it is first installation and proceed with the video
  39.    configuration.

  42. 3. AUTO ALIGNMENT FAILS
  43.  
  44.    To solve this problem, do one or more of the following:
  45.    - Ensure that the loopback cable is properly connected to the decoder card
  46.      and the graphics display card.
  47.      Refer to your PC-DVD GETTING STARTED manual for more instructions.
  48.  
  49.    - Ensure that the video is not full screen during auto alignment.
  50.  
  51.    - If the video auto-alignment still fails (even though the overlay video is 
  52.      displayed), you have to manually align the video.
  53.      Refer to the topic, "To adjust the video alignment", in your online help 
  54.      file for more instructions.

  57. 4. KNOWING THE HARDWARE AND FIRMWARE VERSION NUMBERS OF YOUR PC-DVD DRIVE
  58.      
  59.    You need to take note of the hardware and firmware version numbers of
  60.    your PC-DVD drive.  These numbers will enable Technical Support to
  61.    identify the model of your PC-DVD drive if you need to call Technical
  62.    Support to troubleshoot any problems involving your drive.

  64.    To take note of the hardware and firmware version numbers of your
  65.    PC-DVD drive:
  66.      
  67.    1. Look for the sticker label on the top side of your PC-DVD drive.
  68.      
  69.    2. Look at the serial code which is located just below the barcode on
  70.       the sticker.
  71.       The 7th character is the hardware version of your PC-DVD drive.
  72.       For example, if the serial number is 7827PDA00001, the hardware
  73.       version is A.
  74.      
  75.    3. As for the firmware version, it is located next to the serial
  76.       number.
  77.       For example, F/W = 1.0A means that the firmware version is 1.0A.

  80. 5. DVD MOVIES PLAYBACK
  81.  
  82.    PC-DVD Player supports DVD titles that conform to DVD 1.0 specification.
  83.    The following are some of the frequently asked questions on playing DVD 
  84.    Video titles.

  86.    Q. Why can't I file open a .VOB file on the DVD Movie disk for playback?
  87.    A. The file is probably copy-protected.  To play the file, open the 
  88.       PC-DVD Player, click on the Open File button (see the GETTING STARTED 
  89.       manual), select the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the VIDEO_TS directory, 
  90.       click on the Open button.
  91.  
  92.    Q. Can I play movie titles of any other regional codes other than that
  93.       specified during installation?
  94.    A. No.
  95.  
  96.    Q. Why can't I fast-forward through the Warning Message for some
  97.       movie titles?
  98.    A. This is set during the DVD mastering by individual producers.  The 
  99.       PC-DVD Player cannot overwrite this setting, and so the fast-forward 
  100.       is disabled.

  102.    Q. Why can't I select certain menu items?
  103.    A. Some of the "hot spots" for menu items are very small--a thin line or 
  104.       a dot.  In such cases, try playing the video in full-screen or moving 
  105.       the mouse cursor slower.

  107.    Q. Why does the menu page change without having to click the mouse button?
  108.    A. Some menu items are set so that the mouse cursor is sensed whenever 
  109.       it touches the hot spot; most frequently, when the MORE button is 
  110.       touched, the next menu page is displayed.

  112.    Q. Why are some selections such as audio and caption settings grayed out 
  113.       for certain movie titles?
  114.    A. Support for audio, caption, and multi-angle settings differ from one 
  115.       title to another, especially for multi-angle.  Sometimes, the setting 
  116.       can only be changed via the on-screen menu and not through the PC-DVD 
  117.       Player setting.

  119.    Q. Why can't time search be used for some video clips?
  120.    A. Some titles are mastered so that either time search is prohibited or 
  121.       they do not provide the necessary timing information.

  124. 6. TIPS FOR HANDLING DVD DISCS
  125.  
  126.    Dirt, scratches and fingerprint on a DVD disc may result in error in
  127.    data reading. Such errors may result in momentary glitches in the movie
  128.    during playback.

  130.    You should handle DVD discs carefully, touching it at only the edges and 
  131.    the hole at the center.  Do not touch the surface of the disc. Clean the
  132.    disc with a damp, lint-free, non-abrasive cloth.  Do not use any harsh
  133.    cleaning agents. Wipe the disc in a straight motion from the hole at the
  134.    center to the outer edge.  Do not wipe the disc in a circular motion.

  137. 7. VIDEO PLAYBACK PROBLEM IN "CLAW"
  138.  
  139.    If you are playing "Claw" for the first time using the DVD-ROM drive, we
  140.    recommend that you set your system to display at a resolution of 640x480
  141.    at 256 colors.
  142.  
  143.    After you have set the system's display properties, restart the system, 
  144.    and launch the PC-DVD Player. Select any video (.VOB) file in your "Claw"
  145.    disc and play it (for example, the video file resides in the Claw\Movies
  146.    directory).

  148.    The PC-DVD Player will automatically configure at this display resolution
  149.    you had set.  Once this is done, you can enjoy playing the game in any
  150.    other VGA display resolutions you want.
