This is a demo of Imagine, Impulse's 3D Modeling, Rendering and Animation
package. It is virtually fully functional, with a few "limits" imposed.
Try it out ... if you like it, visit our web site, or call the order line
for the latest pricing info.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
You should have received this README.TXT file, along with another .ZIP file,
containing "setup" files for installing the software. Create a temporary
directory on your hard drive (IMSETUP, say), and extract the .ZIP file
contents into it. Then run the Setup program (SETUP.EXE). The Setup
program will prompt you for a directory name (C:\IMDEMO by default), and
will install a working version there. When the installation is complete,
you can delete the temporary directory, and any remaining .ZIP files.
Our mailing address, web site address, and order line number can be found
in Imagine's About box, when you run the software.
PLATFORM NOTES:
The demo version runs in Windows 95 or Windows NT (3.51+), running on an
Intel processor (386, 486, Pentium ...).
The real version also runs under Windows 3.1x, with Win32s installed.
The size of the "download" file prohibits us from including the full
installation package for running under Win32s.
DEMO VERSION LIMITS:
1) Rendered images are always 320 x 240.
2) Animations are always 50 frames in length.
3) "Depth of Field" rendering is disabled.
4) Still images are always saved in .BMP file format.
5) 3D Object files are saved in a "demo" file format, which is only
capable of storing objects with < 64K of data. Objects are saved
with a special file name extension, with '_demo' appended to the
normal extensions. Most of the Imagine's editors only read the demo
file format. However, in Imagine's Detail Editor, you also load and
render ".DXF" objects, or objects created in the real version of
Imagine (usually having an .IOB extension).
6) Special versions of Imagine's "Texture" and "F/X" modules are included.
The demo will not use corresponding modules from the real version.
Only 4 of Imagine's 110 "texture" modules are included. And only
one object "F/X" module (of 14), and one "global F/X" module (of 10)
are included.
Win32s NOTES:
If you are determined, you can get the demo version to run under
Windows 3.1x, with Win32s installed. You will have some trouble with
file name dialogs in getting existing files to show up, since the long
file name extensions are not supported.
You will need the following:
1) Win32s installed, enabling 32-bit software to run.
2) WinG installed ... this is a "high speed graphics" package from
Microsoft, which is installed with some "game" software.
3) Proper versions of "MFC40.DLL" and "MSVCRT40.DLL" in your Windows
system directory. These may come with a Win32s installation
package, or you may have already gotten them with another piece of
software. The versions required, are for software written with
Microsoft Visual C++, version 4.2. Note: "MSVCRT40.DLL" comes
in two versions ... one for Win32s, and one for Windows 95 and
Windows NT. Make sure you get the proper one.
4) You should be able to find these items at Microsoft's web site.
If you don't have the most up-to-date versions of Win32s and the
two DLLs, you will get an error message when you start Imagine.
You should be able to determine from the error message, which item
is missing, or not up to date.
FINAL NOTES:
Enjoy the software. It is about as fully functional as we thought we
could get it. So, you should be able get a good "feel" for the software.
And visit our web site often ... we will be posting short tutorials and
other helpful info. If you have questions about pricing, or you want to
order the real version, call our order line, or visit the web site.
Best of luck,
The gang at Impulse.
