  13. The Kinetix 3D Studio Max Demo CD requires a 486/66
  14. or faster computer, 8 megabytes of memory, a double speed
  15. CD ROM drive, a sound card, and a video adapter capable of
  16. displaying 800 X 600 X 256 colors.

  18. The Kinetix 3D Studio Max Demo CD runs under
  19. Windows 3.x, Windows 95, or Windows NT Version 3.51
  20. or higher.

  27. To install the Kinetix 3D Studio Max Demo CD:
  28.  
  29. 1. Insert the Kinetix 3D Studio Max Demo
  30.    CD in your CD-ROM drive.
  31. 2. From Windows select File|Run or from Windows 95
  32.    select Start|Run and enter D:\SETUP.EXE, where
  33.    "D" is the drive letter of your CD ROM.
  34. 3. Then follow the onscreen instructions.

  38. [C] Problem Resolutions
  39. -------------------------------------------------------------

  41. Problem:  The demonstration hangs or the colors on screen
  42.           are not correct.
  43.  
  44. Solution: The 3D Studio MAX demo requires video and audio
  45.           drivers that fully support Windows 3.x, Windows 95,
  46.           and Windows NT standards. We recommend installing
  47.           the latest drivers available for your video and
  48.           audio card. If you experience problems, try running
  49.           the demonstration in 800 X 600 X 256 colors.

  51.           Please note that the demonstration requires a sound
  52.           card to operate properly.

  55. Problem:  The demonstration runs very slowly.
  56.  
  57. Solution: For optimal performance make sure your video display
  58.           is set for 800 X 600 X 256 colors. On slower machines
  59.           the demo will not run as smoothly in higher color
  60.           settings. Also, make sure to close all other
  61.           applications before running the demo.

  64. Problem:  The AVIs (animations) play slowly or skip.
  65.  
  66. Solution: This is most likely a performance issue.
  67.  
  68.           1) If you are using Windows 3.x make sure you have a 
  69.              dedicated, contiguous Windows swap file of at least 
  70.              10 megabytes.
  71.  
  72.           2) Change your display adapter to 256 colors.
  73.  
  74.           3) Free up available memory in Windows by closing all 
  75.              other applications before running the demo.

  77.           4) If you are running Windows 3.x, try caching your CD.

  79.           5) If none of the above suggestions seem to help, try 
  80.              running the AVIs by clicking on them directly from 
  81.              File Manager or Explorer and playing them with Media Player.
