  6. Thankyou for trying out Koan Web V.10 or Koan Plugin V1.0 for Netscape V2.0
  7. We hope you enjoy it/them!!
  8.  
  9. First thing you will need to do is to run one of the self extracting 
  10. files, identified below.  Choose 16 bit versions for Windows 3.1 and
  11. 32 bit versions for Windows 95.  The self extracting .EXE files are 
  12. identifiable as follows:

  14. KNP1016.EXE -  16 bit Koan Plugin V1.0 for Netscape V2.0 
  15. KNP1032.EXE -  32 bit Koan Plugin V1.0 for Netscape V2.0 
  16. KWEB1016.EXE - 16 bit Koan Web V1.0 (helper aplication)
  17. KWEB1032.EXE - 32 bit Koan Web V1.0 (helper aplication) 
  18. KNPW1016.EXE - 16 bit Koan Web and Koan Plugin V1.0 for Netscape V2.0

  22. How do I install Koan Web or Koan Plugin?
  23. =============================================================================

  25. Setting up the SSEYO Koan Plugin V1.0 for Netscape Navigator V2.0
  26. *****************************************************************

  28.    1.Run SETUP16.EXE or SETUP32.EXE. If not there already, SETUP will 
  29.      create a Netscape Plugins subdirectory under your selected 
  30.      Netscape .EXE directory, and copy the Plugin DLL there. You will 
  31.      need to choose a directory for other supplementary files, and it 
  32.      will copy the Koan Music Engine to the Windows directory.
  33.  
  34.    2.Read and agree to the terms of the Software License.
  35.  
  36.    3.Restart Netscape Navigator
  37.  
  38.    4.Connect to the SSEYO web page and check your setup works. 
  39.      If functioning correctly, you will see the Koan Icon display
  40.      in the web page as the embedded Koan file is downloaded and 
  41.      launches the Koan Plugin. Music will start to play. Should 
  42.      you experience any difficulties please see below. 
  43.  
  44.    5.The first time you connect to a page containing an embedded 
  45.      Koan file, try clicking with the right mouse button on the 
  46.      embedded Koan icon. You will be presented with a menu. You 
  47.      will see a menu allowing you to see information about the 
  48.      Plugin, launching Koan Web (which you will need to have 
  49.      downloaded) and various other options. You can change your 
  50.      MIDI device from the Setup menu item, but if you want to
  51.      change any of the other default options for the Plugin, 
  52.      including music volume etc. you will need to have Koan Web 
  53.      installed.

  55.      Note: If your MIDI Output device solely uses the OPL3 
  56.      chipset (e.g. SB16 and SB16 equivalents) or is one that 
  57.      doesn't support continuous volume controller changes then 
  58.      you should check the Use Koan ADSR checkbox (default). If 
  59.      you have a Wavetable soundcard or one that does support 
  60.      continuous volume controller changes (e.g. AWE32, SCC1, 
  61.      DB50XG, Gravis, NuSound) then leave this box unchecked.

  63.    6.Any Problems? 
  64.         1.Make sure your MIDI Mapper is set-up correctly (refer
  65.           to the Microsoft online help or, if you also have Koan
  66.           Web, see its online help) 
  67.         2.Check that your Setup Options show that the MIDI Output 
  68.           Device points to the MIDI Mapper or your installed 
  69.           soundcard driver.

  73. Setting up SSEYO Koan Web V1.0 as a Helper Application 
  74. ********************************************************

  76. General Setup 
  77. +++++++++++++
  78.    1.Run SETUP16.EXE or SETUP32.EXE. You will need to choose a 
  79.      directory for other supplementary files (e.g. the License), and
  80.      SETUP will copy the Koan Music Engine to the Windows directory.

  82.    2.Read and agree to the terms of the Software License.

  84.    3.Setup the Windows MIDI Mapper to point to your soundcard. If 
  85.      you are unfamiliar with the MIDI Mapper reference to the 
  86.      Windows online help or also the Koan Web online help.
  87.  
  88.    4.Check that your Koan Setup Options show that the MIDI Output 
  89.      Device selection points to the MIDI Mapper (which should be 
  90.      the default) or your installed soundcard driver. To do this 
  91.      select View Setup from the menu: to get help on the Setup 
  92.      Options dialog press the F1 key.
  93.  
  94.      Note: If your MIDI Output device solely uses the OPL3

  102. Setting up as a helper application

  107.      A) Download a Koan file and set up SSEYO Koan Web as a 
  108.         helper application on the fly 
  109.         1.Click on a "hotlinked" Koan file to download it.
  110.         2.You will get a message saying that it is an Unknown 
  111.           file type and asking you if you want to set up a
  112.           helper application/pick an application. 
  113.         3.Click Yes or Pick Application and select SSEYO Koan Web
  114.           (it will be where you installed it, most likely the 
  115.           KOANWEB directory) as your external viewer. 
  116. or;
  117.      B) Setup SSEYO Koan Web as a helper application in advance 
  118.  
  119.      For Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can use the
  120.        Explore | Options dialog to associate SSEYO Koan file
  121.        extensions (SKP, SKD, SKT, MID) with the SSEYO Koan Web 
  122.        program.

  124.      For Netscape Navigator:
  125.        1.Select Options|Preferences|Helpers (pre V2.0) or
  126.          Options|General Preferences |Helpers (V2.0).
  127.        2.Add a new Helper application with MIME type 
  128.          application, and MIME Subtype x-koan and File
  129.          extensions skp, skd, skt, skm.
  130.        3.Under Action, select Launch Application and add SSEYO 
  131.          Koan Web which you will have installed earlier.

  133.      For other Web Browsers :
  134.        Refer to the on-line help that came with your Web Browser.

  137. 16 bit/32 bit versions
  138. =============================================================================
  139. The 32 bit versions of Koan Web and Koan Plugin now support a
  140. multi-threaded composer, which can be enabled through the Setup Dialog
  141. (View Setup off the menu). This option enables Koan to keep on
  142. composing, even when the graphical user interface is fully engaged by
  143. the user. Previously, if the user interface were stopped while waiting
  144. for user input, the music could stop being played after the Composer
  145. Reaction time (View Setup) had elapsed.  If you enable the
  146. multi-threading option, and later experience problems with
  147. multi-threaded operation, you may of course disable (and later
  148. re-enable) this option through the Setup Dialog.
  149.  
  150. The most likely problem with multithreading is that you might
  151. experience some lack of smoothness in the played music, when you have
  152. a small amount of physical memory available (e.g. less than 16
  153. Megabytes of base physical memory, and / or many applications loaded).
  154. If this is the case, simply disable the multithreading option.
  155.  
  156. The 32 bit versions are designed for use only with Windows 95 or later.

  159. World Wide Web
  160. =============================================================================
  161. Don't forget you can use SSEYO Koan Web V1.0 or SSEYO Koan Plugin V1.0
  162. for Netscape Navigator V2.0 to play back Koan pieces. Koan Web is also suitable
  163. for use as as helper applications for WWW browsers such as Microsoft 
  164. Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator or Mosaic. Create your own pieces 
  165. with SSEYO Koan Pro for use on the web. See our web page for more details 
  166. (http://www.sseyo.com).

  169. CREATIVE LABS AWE32
  170. =============================================================================
  171. * AWE32 Pitch Intial (View 12) is active when between -8192 an +8191
  172.   The Off value is -8193.  If you set it to a very high or low value
  173.   (e.g. -8192) it is possible you will not be able to hear the voice
  174.   play at all as it will be out of audible range.
  175.  
  176. * If you have the 32-bit version of one of the SSEYO Koan products,
  177.   and you use a Creative Labs AWE32 card and wish to use SoundFont banks
  178.   from within Koan ... then the standard Creative Labs file AWEMAN32.DLL
  179.   must exist somewhere in your system path. Note that this was not the
  180.   case with very early Windows 95 AWE32 drivers from Creative Labs.
  181.   If this file is not present on your machine, then contact Creative
  182.   Labs for the latest driver pack (http://www.creaf.com).

  212. Eno with SSEYO Koan Pro.

  223. Brian Eno is the 1996 BRITs Producer of the Year for Outside by David Bowie, 
  224. and pioneer of ambient music. Brian Eno's Generative Music 1 was produced
  225. with SSEYO Koan Pro.
