  20. new Windows optimization and cleanup program from 
  21. Ashampoo. You will find that WinOptimizer is a powerful 
  22. tool that will help you to eliminate unnecessary ballast 
  23. and keep your Windows system running smoothly and efficiently.

  25. This file contains some important additional information 
  26. not included in the program documentation. Please read it 
  27. carefully before beginning.

  30. Older Versions of WinOptimizer
  31. ------------------------------
  32. Please UNINSTALL all previous versions of the program 
  33. before installing WinOptimizer 99 DELUXE.

  36. Computers with Multiple Operating Systems
  37. -----------------------------------------
  38. WARNING: Please exercise EXTREME CAUTION when using this 
  39. program on computers with more than one operating system 
  40. installed. Failure to observe this warning may result in 
  41. serious problems, which can vary depending on the nature 
  42. of your system configuration.

  44. The DLL Search function is particularly risky on 
  45. computers with more than one OS installed and should only 
  46. be executed by users who are absolutely sure that they 
  47. know what theyÆre doing!
  48.  
  49. This applies in particular for dual-boot systems with 
  50. Windows 9x and Windows NT installations on the same 
  51. partition. NT and Windows 9x have many objects with 
  52. identical names, and assuming that these are unnecessary 
  53. duplicates and deleting them can lead to serious system 
  54. malfunctions.
  55.  
  56. You can avoid most of these problems if you install your 
  57. operating systems on separate partitions and use a modern 
  58. boot manager (like PTS Boot Manager 98 SUPRA) that hides 
  59. the partitions containing the systems that are not 
  60. currently active. However, you may still experience some 
  61. problems if you have applications referencing the hidden 
  62. operating system installed on visible partitions.
  63.  
  64. Alternatively, you can also exclude the partitions 
  65. containing your other operating systems from 
  66. WinOptimizerÆs searches with the Drives To Search 
  67. settings under Options.
  68.  
  69. As a general rule of thumb, never delete ANYTHING on 
  70. multiple OS systems unless you are 100% sure that the 
  71. items you are deleting are not needed by any of your 
  72. systems!

  75. Emptying the Recycle Bin 
  76. ------------------------
  77. We recommend that you always empty the Recycle Bin before 
  78. using WinOptimizer. 
  79.  
  80. The capacity of the Recycle Bin is limited. If you delete 
  81. a large amount of data without emptying it first you may 
  82. find that you cannot restore some files from the Recycle 
  83. Bin when you need them again!

  86. The WinOptimizer Screen Saver
  87. -----------------------------
  88. This product is shipped with a special screen saver that 
  89. can optimize your system automatically whenever it 
  90. activates. When you install it, it appears in the Screen 
  91. Saver list in the Display Properties as "WinOptimizer 
  92. 99 DELUXE". 
  93.  
  94. Since some users may not wish to use this function the 
  95. screen saver is not installed automatically. You can
  96. choose to install it together with WinOptimizer by 
  97. selecting the appropriate option in the setup program.

  99. Please see the enclosed documentation for information on 
  100. the screen saverÆs capabilities and how to configure and 
  101. use it.

  103. WARNING: If you configure the screen saver to delete 
  104. unnecessary files please take care that it doesnÆt 
  105. activate automatically while you are installing 
  106. applications! Installation programs often create 
  107. temporary files and folders that the screen saver will 
  108. believe are unnecessary, and this can lead to problems, 
  109. causing the installation to abort.

  111. The best solution is to always DEACTIVATE the screen 
  112. saver before installing software. Alternatively, you can 
  113. set the activation period to a high value that will make 
  114. sure that the screen saver does not activate.

  117. Issues with Windows 2000 (and above)
  118. ------------------------------------
  119. WARNING: We cannot guarantee that this application will 
  120. work properly with systems running Windows 2000 or above!
