Welcome to WinOptimizer 99 DELUXE!
======================================
Important Information
=====================
Thank you for purchasing WinOptimizer 99 DELUXE, the
new Windows optimization and cleanup program from
Hilchner & Lesani. You will find that WinOptimizer is a
powerful tool that will help you to eliminate unnecessary
ballast and keep your Windows system running smoothly and
efficiently.
This file contains some important additional information
not included in the program documentation. Please read it
carefully before beginning.
Older Versions of WinOptimizer
------------------------------
Please UNINSTALL all previous versions of the program
before installing WinOptimizer 99 DELUXE.
Computers with Multiple Operating Systems
-----------------------------------------
WARNING: Please exercise EXTREME CAUTION when using this
program on computers with more than one operating system
installed. Failure to observe this warning may result in
serious problems, which can vary depending on the nature
of your system configuration.
The DLL Search function is particularly risky on
computers with more than one OS installed and should only
be executed by users who are absolutely sure that they
know what theyÆre doing!
This applies in particular for dual-boot systems with
Windows 9x and Windows NT installations on the same
partition. NT and Windows 9x have many objects with
identical names, and assuming that these are unnecessary
duplicates and deleting them can lead to serious system
malfunctions.
You can avoid most of these problems if you install your
operating systems on separate partitions and use a modern
boot manager (like PTS Boot Manager 98 SUPRA) that hides
the partitions containing the systems that are not
currently active. However, you may still experience some
problems if you have applications referencing the hidden
operating system installed on visible partitions.
Alternatively, you can also exclude the partitions
containing your other operating systems from
WinOptimizerÆs searches with the Drives To Search
settings under Options.
As a general rule of thumb, never delete ANYTHING on
multiple OS systems unless you are 100% sure that the
items you are deleting are not needed by any of your
systems!
Emptying the Recycle Bin
------------------------
We recommend that you always empty the Recycle Bin before
using WinOptimizer.
The capacity of the Recycle Bin is limited. If you delete
a large amount of data without emptying it first you may
find that you cannot restore some files from the Recycle
Bin when you need them again!
The WinOptimizer Screen Saver
-----------------------------
This product is shipped with a special screen saver that
can optimize your system automatically whenever it
activates. When you install it, it appears in the Screen
Saver list in the Display Properties as "WinOptimizer
99 DELUXE".
Since some users may not wish to use this function the
screen saver is not installed automatically. You can
choose to install it together with WinOptimizer by
selecting the appropriate option in the setup program.
Please see the enclosed documentation for information on
the screen saverÆs capabilities and how to configure and
use it.
WARNING: If you configure the screen saver to delete
unnecessary files please take care that it doesnÆt
activate automatically while you are installing
applications! Installation programs often create
temporary files and folders that the screen saver will
believe are unnecessary, and this can lead to problems,
causing the installation to abort.
The best solution is to always DEACTIVATE the screen
saver before installing software. Alternatively, you can
set the activation period to a high value that will make
sure that the screen saver does not activate.
Issues with Windows 2000 (and above)
------------------------------------
WARNING: We cannot guarantee that this application will
work properly with systems running Windows 2000 or above!
