  4. DocBook is pretty much the standard for software documentation.  It is
  5. managed by a committee formed at OASIS, the Organization for the
  6. Advancement of Structured Information Standards
  7. <URL:http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/>.  More information on
  8. DocBook, including the user support community for it, can be found at
  9. <URL:http://www.docbook.org/>.

  11. This package contains the XML versions of the DTDs.  The 'docbook'
  12. package contains the SGML DTDs.  A number of customization packages
  13. are also available, generally used to mark up specialized subsets or
  14. special applications of DocBook XML.  Rather than list them here,
  15. please do 'apt-cache search docbook-xml'.

  17. If you wish to format DocBook documents, you'll want to apply a
  18. stylesheet to the document, in conjunction with a processor which
  19. applies the style.  The available stylesheets for DocBook are the
  20. 'docbook-dsssl' and 'docbook-xsl' packages, for DSSSL and XSL
  21. stylesheets, respectively.  Instructions on operating those
  22. stylesheets and DSSSL or XSL processors is beyond the scope of this
  23. README, but there is a Debian SGML/XML HOWTO at
  24. <URL:http://www.debian.org/doc/misc-manuals#sgml-howto> which should
  25. give some guidance.
