Player Manager - Season 98-99 is a football management simulation set in the current European scene.
The top divisions in the five major leagues, namely English, German, French, Italian and Spanish are awash with money and more than 80 % of the top world class players play in these five leagues. The financial rewards of success are enormous. The top clubs right through Europe are bidding for these players in search of national and European trophies. Managers are under severe pressure to satisfy shareholders expectations because the financial consequences of failure are dire for the clubs as well as managers.
Life in the lower divisions isn't any easier. Finances are poor the majority of clubs are forced to sell their best players to survive.
At the end of the day the key to success is results on the pitch. Buying the very best players available doesn't guarantee success. In Player Manager Season 98/99 there are many imponderable questions that need to be answered that are not currently addressed in any other management game. Will your latest signing fulfil his promise and bring a whole new style of play to your club. Will he be accepted by other players in the squad.
The manager has to know how to make the best use of his players. He has to devise a strategy and know the role each player has to play to make it a winning one.

The menus are the engine room of any good management game. Anco has specially developed for Player Manager pop up menus with sub menus previously only seen on professional high value products. The system gives instant access to all facts and figures to help make decision making easier.
Players
There are over 7,000 players in the PSX release and over 12,000 in the PC release. Each player has 18 visible stats like passing, shooting, stamina and intelligence. They also have 20 other operational stats like fitness, fatigue, nervousness and hesitancy. There are 4 types of players; Keepers, Defenders, Midfielders and Forwards. The players are not pigeon holed as centre backs, playmakers etc. It's up to the manager to decide what role he wants each player to play.
