Additions, Changes and Fixes Since Beta 1a
==========================================
Note: If you're using a previous version of FeedDemon, there's no need to uninstall it - just install this release directly on top of it. This will retain your existing channels and listings, but all other settings will be reset to their defaults.
Additions
- "Manage Listings" added to File menu, which enables drag-and-drop of channels between listings
- "Author" column added to news items. Note that this is hidden by default, but can be displayed by selecting View > Columns > Author
- "Source" column added, which shows the name of the channel an item originated from (useful for news bins and watches).
Note: News bin or watch items created in earlier releases may show the name of the news bin or watch rather than the actual source channel.
- "Group By" selection now includes "Author" and "Source"
- "Load new tabs in the background" added to new "Browsing" page in Options
- "Synchronize with online directory" now enables selecting a local OPML file
- Ctrl+R shortcut for "Mark listing as read"
- Beta 2a: Shift+Ctrl+R shortcut for "Mark all listings as read"
Changes
- The limit of 150 channels per listing has been removed. In it's place, a dialog appears suggesting that you break listings into smaller groups of channels.
- Copy/Move channel dialog now defaults to the same choice that was selected the last time it was displayed
- New watch items now default to having "Match whole words" selected
- Unicode/UTF8 BOM no longer written to exported RSS or OPML files
- Decreased the frequency of "beeps" when an item is added to a watch
- Removed "In the subject" from the "New Watch" dialog (too few feeds support subject to make it worthwhile)
- Increased the number of HTTP connections allowed
- Beta 2a: On the options dialog and channel properties dialog, the maximum value for "Retain only the most recent" has been bumped from 999 to 9999 items.
- Beta 2a: Address bar removes linefeeds from pasted text
Fixes
- Memory leak which led to large virtual memory consumption with prolonged use
- Items in news bins and watches fail to display link to source channel when previewed
- Incorrect parsing of <pubDate> and <dc:date>
Note: Published dates for items retreived in earlier releases may still appear incorrect, but this fix should correctly parse dates for new items.
- Install adds extra '\' to default path
- Pressing <Enter> doesn't click the default button on several FeedDemon dialogs
- Access violations when deleting an empty or duplicate channel
- On the Options dialog, keyboard entry of items that have "spinners" isn't retained
- Duplicate channels were sometimes allowed in a listing
- Failed to correctly import OPML with channels that contain & in their URL
- Ctrl+U (Next Unread Item) right after Ctrl+Shift+J (Next Unread Channel) doesn't work
- Assertion error with empty XML file
- Failed to detect title or description changes for news items that have an assigned GUID
- Deleting a listing while it's updating may result in a file access error message
- Info balloon overlaps when using large fonts
- News items from the same week in different years were grouped together
- Beta 2a: Using back/forewards mouse buttons may cause a recoverable crash
- Beta 2a: Long URLs in the address bar may cause registry error under Windows 98/ME/2000
- Beta 2a: News items with a publishing date in the future are grouped with older items
- Beta 2a: <dc:date> conversion incorrectly applied offset, resulting in the wrong publication date appearing
Known Issues
- Many of the images used in FeedDemon (including those on toolbuttons and wizards) are merely placeholders until I receive the actual images from my graphic artist
- There is currently no help available for FeedDemon
- FeedDemon is fairly mouse-centric in that some features are hard to access with just the keyboard. This will be addressed before the final release.
- When using keyboard shortcuts to navigate to a channel that's scrolled out of view, the channel bar doesn't scroll that channel into view
