- <p> Climate and clothing: Light clothing is worn all year. Most
- rainfall occurs from December through March.
- </p>
- <p> Customs: Americans visiting Tonga must have a valid passport
- and an onward airline ticket but do not need visas for visits up
- to 30 days. Visas are required for longer visits and may be
- obtained in Tonga or at consulates of the United Kingdom.
- </p>
- <p> Health: Tonga is free from most tropical diseases, including
- malaria. Nuku'alofa has a modern hospital, but doctors are often
- in short supply. Drinking water is safe in the capital and in
- tourist resorts.
- </p>
- <p> Transportation: Four international airlines link Tonga with
- Fiji, New Zealand, and Western Samoa. A small national airline
- provides irregular service to airstrips on the three main island
- groups. Cars with drivers can be hired. Taxis are available in
- larger towns.
