- <p> Ted Turner has a novel solution for global problems: since
- the planet's future is too important to be left to scientists,
- give writers a chance to see what they can do. And to inspire
- them, the media captain and boss of CNN announced last week that
- he was offering rewards for the best literary work with themes
- ensuring survival and prosperity. "We're floundering around as
- a species right now," says Turner. The world will be a better
- place for the winner. The modestly named Turner Tomorrow Awards
- carry a first prize of $500,000, the biggest cash award ever for
- a work of fiction.
