<p> A life sentence in prison usually means just that, but not
so in the National Football League. That's fortunate for
ex-Washington Redskins defensive end Dexter Manley, who was
reinstated last week by N.F.L. commissioner Paul Tagliabue just a
year after his "lifetime" suspension for drug abuse. The former
Pro Bowler may play as long as he continues going to support
groups for his drug problem. But he won't be sacking
quarterbacks for the Redskins, because the team dropped him from
the roster. Now he's headed for the Phoenix Cardinals. Says
Manley, 31: "I have joy in my heart because I have the
opportunity to play football again."
