  18. <p>     A man who loathes Smurfs and mood rings can't be all bad.
  19. Soon after his "interest in cuteness started wearing thin," Jon
  20. Winokur, 43, evolved into a full-fledged curmudgeon--someone
  21. who "considers the universe a personal affront." Winokur, who
  22. endures life in sunny Southern California, has made crustiness
  23. a cottage industry with his calendar series and three books,
  24. including the new Friendly Advice (sample: Pay no attention to
  25. whatever advice you receive). At last count the compilations
  26. had sold half a million copies. So who's complaining?
