  17. <p>    Back home, Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour, a leader in
  18. "world music," drives a luxury car and cannot walk the streets
  19. without drawing a crowd. But in New York City he moves unnoticed
  20. and stays at modest hotels. Now filmmaker Spike Lee's new
  21. record label is releasing an N'Dour album, Eyes Open, that may
  22. finally introduce U.S. listeners to the versatile voice and
  23. richly textured rhythms familiar from France to Japan. "It will
  24. be a challenge to see if we can get African Americans to buy his
  25. music," says Lee. "It's kind of sad -- white college kids were
  26. hip to reggae and Bob Marley way before the black masses."
