  17. <p>    What better way to police a company than to sign up a former
  18. top cop? Wall Street's Drexel Burnham Lambert, which agreed last
  19. month to settle criminal-fraud charges, plans to hire a new
  20. chairman for its holding company. Drexel's choice to succeed
  21. Robert Linton: John Shad, the U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands
  22. and former head of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
  23. Drexel is also recruiting trade consultant Roderick Hills,
  24. another former SEC chief, to serve on the firm's board. Neither
  25. had formally accepted by week's end.
